Today, we’re excited to announce that pre-orders for Rift will open on Oculus.com at 8am Pacific Time on January 6! We’ll be sharing everything you need to know to order your Rift on Wednesday when pre-orders go live.https://www.oculus.com/en-us/blog/oculus-rift-pre-orders-to-open-on-jan-6/
i don't trust OR at all to be honest
just don't feel like they have any kind of outline for their vision at all atm
i mean including an xbox controller with your VR headset? srs?

only game that might possibly legit target your hunger for sheer horsepower is cyberpunk 2020 or whatever

3DMark - Firestrike 1.1 benchmark will let you know if you ready for the Rift, or to keep it moving. Need at least 9000. I think there's a free version of 3DMark on Steam.
we gud over here. more i look at this image the more i question why i am wasting my time with consoles.

Will probably wait for all of them to come out and see if its actually worth it before jumping in to VR. Seems like there won't be very many deep game experiences for it for a while.
I honestly can't believe this fucking thing isn't available already. How many years has it been out in the wild in beta? Do they have any marquee software lined up for release?

good, but makes me want to upgrade my cpu

Out in the wild? It's been dev kits no? Which makes perfect sense. It's something new that will take time to figure out both for themselves (with lots of changes to Oculus since the first dev kit) and for the devs. The developers have needed the time to even come to this point, where there still isn't that much more than cool tech demos.
This isn't for anyone but enthusiasts at the moment and won't be for quite some time, highly doubt Sony will be able to pull the more mainstream crowd in either, especially with their underpowered hardware making it a bitch to make VR games for it.
By diehard Go To PostI have a better computer than Smokey? (kinda)
bruh you slippin
i'm assuming you talking about cpu. i'm still on x79 with an asus rampage iv black edition (GOAT mobo)
but
i will be returning to form this yr. i let consoles get to me in 2015.

i said that before
it's fun af to put shit together and do builds. not bold enough to do full on water tho
By reilo Go To PostI think you like the idea of PC gaming more than actually doing it lol.Just like Bloodborne.

yall gonna get enough of bloodborne and me i swear it
By reilo Go To PostYou're afraid of water cooling? What?
a full custom built loop? terrified
i've used multiple closed cpu solutions though. using h100i now.
By reilo Go To PostYou're afraid of water cooling? What?Same for me.
Despite building alot of PCs for myself, family, gf, friends and others.
It's just the fear of something you never used before.
Still renember the first time I build a PC, with a CPU that still had pins.
Having heard alot of horror stories of people breaking pins was really making me nervous.
By reilo Go To PostYou're afraid of water cooling? What?
Full cooling with pipes is a pain in the ass. The corsair solutions work just fine for us peasants

Pretty much. I know for a fact in this build I had:
a full WC loop would've been the correct choice. I would get hit with immediate throttling on the middle card because of the heat. A WC setup for what I had in the pic would've most likely required 2 rads. Fittings, tubing, liquid, bigger case etc. It all adds up. Plus I am NOT comfortable at all with liquid moving around $2000-$3000 worth of GPUs. It's probably the next logical step for me tho tbh
600 us
overpriced imo
the idea of a strong and proven VR solution packaged with its own unique input device as well as having strong software support designed with the hardware in mind...if its got all that then 600 seems fair, but this is a product that has none of that at the moment and is almost sure to require further hardware iteration, with competing products not even out yet
pass

By reilo Go To PostAt least a PS3 was a good Blu-Ray player.
Yes, but they're going to have a competitor from Sony's PSVR. Sony seems to be aware of pricing in the their gaming division and I don't think they'll go that high or anywhere near it.
Completely forgot about pre orders. Been in meetings all damn day. The price isn't really an issue for me. You're an early adopter on the next big thing in tech. But it now shows shipping in May 2015. Too long from now. Pass. If I could've caught it in March when orders went live, I would've probably jumped on it.
Depends on content really. One of the threads posted regarding this on that other site had the reviewer completely disoriented it was so intense.

A VR unit attached to a PS4 is fucking jokes.
This is from Valves talk on building the Vive:
Shaded Visible Pixels per Second
●720p @ 30 Hz: 27 million pixels/sec
●1080p@60 Hz: 124 million pixels/sec
●30” Monitor 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz: 245 million pixels/sec
●4k Monitor 4096x2160 @ 30 Hz: 265 million pixels/sec
●VR 1512x1680x2 @ 90 Hz: 457 million pixels/sec
● We can reduce this to 378 million pixels/sec (later in the talk)
● Equivalent to 30” Monitor @ 100 Hz for a non-VR renderer
There Are No “Small” Effects
● Tracking allows users to get up close to anything in the tracked volume
● Can’t implement a super expensive effect and claim “it’s just this small little thing in the corner”
●Even your floors need to be higher fidelity than we have traditionally authored
●If it’s in your tracked volume, it must be high fidelity
Aliasing Is Your Enemy
●The camera (your head) never stops moving. Aliasing is amplified because of this.
●While there are more pixels to render, each pixel fills a larger angle than anything we’ve done before. Here are some averages:
● 2560x1600 30” monitor: ~50 pixels/degree (50 degree H fov)
●720p 30” monitor: ~25 pixels/degree (50 degree H fov)
● VR: ~15.3 pixels/degree (110 degree fov w/ 1.4x)
●We must increase the quality of our pixels
4xMSAA Minimum Quality
● Forward renderers win for antialiasing because MSAA just works
● We use 8xMSAA if perf allows
● Image-space antialiasing algorithms must be compared side-by-side with 4xMSAA and 8xMSAA to know how your renderer will compare
to others in the industry
●Jittered SSAA is obviously the best using the HLSL ‘sample’ modifier, but only if you can spare the perf
So yeah, PSVR is going to be fucking jokes.
PSVR will very likely be the weakest of the VR sets from a technical standpoint, but when has being the most technically advanced mattered before regarding new tech?
Price point and content mean much much more when trying to gain a foothold on the market.

I'm skeptical the PS4 will have more content. Seems risky for a developer to develop something for a peripheral. I'm not really up to speed though. Are any of Sony's in house teams building stuff for their upcoming set?
Just think PSVR will end up like Move, PSEye and their attempts at incorporating 3D into everything. Half-baked and poor quality.
I'm not saying PSVR will have more content or any worthwhile content for that matter but that content matters more than technical power. Sonys peripheral history doesn't instill much confidence for PSVR's future.
PSVR won't be trying to go with AAA experiences--there are still very fun, basic graphical games
for instance one of the funnest games I played with my DK2 was basically virtual pong where your head served as the "paddle"--not graphically intense at all but very immersive
i'd expect a lot of that sort of thing with PSVR

Sony at least has an established platform that is extremely popular to build on, but it would suit them to make PSVR Windows compatible, imho. Maybe it's just me, but Carmack in 2016 doesn't instill much confidence, either.

Depending on the price point of the peripheral, they better make sure it's not for virtual pong.
i don't think PSVR will be as bad quality as people make it out. Especially if rumours of being able to reach battlefield split screen levels of fidelity. Isn't there rumour of evolution doing something with driveclub VR?
Like people have said it won't be the most powerful tech out there sure. But the best 1080p TVs weren't the ones to get HD to the masses/wider audience.
I think it'll be fine.

I'm really excited about the technology. I can't wait actually, but how bad will the first generations of devices be? I hope people here will give testimonies.
Drive Club VR would be cool. I haven't played a driving game since drive club because the PS4 didn't allow the old wheels to be used and a new one with forced feedback only came from Thrustmaster for 300+ bucks. Fuck that noise. My old logitech on PS3 was like 150 with forced feedback.
Most people are going to have to upgrade their graphics cards so there's that expense to factor in as well. So, tack on another $300-$350 for that (just to meet the minimum specs) and then with shipping etc... and you're realistically looking at more than $1000 to buy in.
By Gabyskra Go To PostAlso, no mention of VR porn yet.oh, it's already here.
