My girl is so fucking into this. I will be forced to watch. I stopped watching the show round season 6 or so.
I'm down
do I have to watch every season to enjoy this, though? Because I don't think I have the time or patience
I was under the impression that X-Files was mostly a case of the week show

By Yurt Go To PostI'm downNope, there were case of the week episodes but there was a main story arc about aliens.

This is supposedly more about separate cases than it is the overall story.

Its about the main story arc of the entire show.
The main arc being muldor looking for evidence that his sister was abducted by aliens which is a part of a bigger government collusion with aliens since the 40s.
Season 1 has enough good and memorable episodes to come back to.
It's less consistent than the others, but understandably so, the show's trying to find its tone and balance of season-long arcs and monsters of the week.

By reilo Go To PostI just started Season 1 the other day, finished the first six episodes. Duchovny is wonderful.
There is some scary shit first couple seasons.

It's my favourite show of all time. Started watching it when it first aired back in 94 or 95. I was 8 or 9 back then and although the show aired here on Monday nights at a late hour, it was the only show I was allowed to stay awake for as my mother knew how much loved it. Stayed with it up until the end and I still remember the excitement and sadness of that last night, the night I saw the final episode.
Part of my first paycheck was used to buy the the complete DVD collection and I am unemployed and back to Uni now but as soon as I am employed once again, I am buying the Blu Ray collection. I have both movies on DVD and I am rewatching it all on Netflix, that HD restoration is glorious.
There is a channel here that is showing promos for the show in almost every ad break and part of me still can't believe what is happening.
After 13 years, The X Files are coming back.
Oh man. I was also allowed to stay up very late for the when I was a kid, and it's my only clear memory of x files.
I barely remember anything about it, despite me and a few in my class watching it and taking about it in school the day after. I remember our class teacher overhearing our conversation one day and claimed she would talk to our parents about it, as it was airing so late. Don't think she ever did though, cause we were allowed to keep watching.
I'm trying to go back to watch it right now. But it's bit hard to make it through tbh. Think I might just watch the new season without refreshing my memory.
(also how great was that ps1 game? Me and my dad used to rent it at blockbuster all the time)

By Kabro Go To Postdammit, i totally missed out on the season premiere last week.Episode 1 is weak, 2 is much better.
time to enjoy the shit out of it.
I preferred the first ep to the second. Monster of the Week format seems very strange now. How do you go to just working a case like normal after finding out everything you've worked on your whole life has been a lie and planned ruse to make you waste your time? It's more glaring now than it was back then, for some reason.
The second episode that was aired was actually meant to be the 5th episode. Fox decided to change the order after the negative reactions to the first screenings of the premiere. That's way you only hear Skinner say "Welcome back, you two" off screen and why they seem so "normal" back at work after everything that happened.
While I would normally complain about Fox messing up the order, I feel they made the right call there. The first episode had an enormous audience because of the football match that aired before and more than 10 Million came back for the second episode, even after the weaker first episode.
They needed the second one to be a strong one that carried that familiar feeling of what made The X-Files good and I felt that "Founder's Mutation" really hit the right points there.
Also, it was very common for Mulder and Scully to have some big twist about the conspiracy and then go back to work as nothing ever happen.
It's not like they forget everything that happened in the first, there are quite a few mentions of it.
Tonight's episode should be quite good. Many reviewers claimed it to be an instant classic and worthy of being named with the best the show offered.

By LFMartins86 Go To PostEpisode 1 is weak, 2 is much better.ok, that first episodes is all over the place.
acting, directing, script, pacing, tempo and overall feel.
haven't seen episode 2 yet, but when they showed the original opening credits,
i totally geeked out.
episode 2 tonight.
This was probably the best, most complex, funniest, sexiest, dearest, cleverest and everything in superlatives episode in the history of X-Files.
I was almost waiting for Jemaine Clement to pop put from the woods.

I can't believe how great ep 2 is.from script to acting. its like they're in full form.
even though it was just the monster of the week.
it felt like good ole' X files again.
edit: ah, must be referring to ep 3.

By 33MillionDollarMen Go To PostI'm trying to watch the old eps and I'm rather bored tbph. It's worth skipping to season 3 if you're having that much trouble. The production values take a huge leap iirc.
Just watched the new episode. It was a lot of fun although not quite up to the old humorous monster of the week eps.

Ep 3 was WONDERFUL. Classic FNP era X-Files, as good as any of the lighter episodes from any season.
By 33MillionDollarMen Go To PostI'll try that. I generally like spooky stuff but the pace of the show was getting to me.The mythology stuff and Mulder/Scully romantic tension doesn't do a lot for me, although the Cigarette Smoking Man is fun.
Monster of the week is where it's at for me.

Well, it is about time they got some kind of actual answer and closure to a story.
By Spengo Go To PostMy only complaint is scully using the phrase "batcrap crazy"
It was off for me too. Loved the episode. I want a full season.
