By Xpike Go To PostValve really needs to hire a PR department ASAP.They tried but all the money they collect off everything is getting in the way
By Ragnarok Flames Go To PostWhat the actual fuck. Let's see the Steam Defense Force spin this one."Personal info breaches are no big deal they happen all of the time" is the recurring dumb shit from them.
By Captain Yolo Von Butts Go To PostAfter thinking about it, talking over it with a friend, especially the impact it has them and certain other people, I'm legit done with my Steam account. I can understand fuckups can happen but their quietness and fuckery dealing with the event has left a sour taste. They're gonna have to move mountains to get people's trust back at this point.
By 13MillionDollarMan Go To PostThis is bullshit. Pure bullshit.
I'm not even sure if y'all are actually trolling or not.
I mean, if you want to go down that path, the numbers of places you can ACTUALLY shop at these days is limited to, like, the strawberry fields, paying in cash, direct to the farmer.
I mean, if it really was a config fuck up, at least they're NOT spinning it, admitting fault, and dealing with it. It not being an attack makes the delay in shutting it down more "understandable" they probably thought they could just fix it with a config change. Reaction was still way too slow.
If you want to stop this shit, don't let websites store your cc info. Have 2step auth. Don't use paypal, ever.
By giririsss Go To PostI'm not even sure if y'all are actually trolling or not.Why would I be trolling about a serious fuck up involving personal information and a lackadaisical response to it?

If you want to stop this shit do other things to avoid your personal info being in places instead of being critical about how companies handle it? Are you fucking kidding me right now?

I tried reading this post but all i see is "blah blah victim blaming blah blah"

Who said don't be critical? They should take the PR hit. They should be subjected to a full securities audit by the relevant government authority. They should lose all their accreditation for info control until proven again. Their payment portal people should have stripped them of the authority to make payments until re-certified.
But jumping off the deep end with an extremist response is absurdity ad nauseam. "Valve should die" "no Valves allowed" "Valve have ruined GAMING". Yeah, No.

Then you should go back to school and learn and work on reading comprehension.

Yeah, No.And I posted any of that where exactly? Oh right I didn't. I basically posted they don't get my business anymore and their nonapology is some horseshit. For some reason you're strawmanning the shit out of it.
This is Valve's third or fourth fuckup and they keep outdoing themselves. People saying they're no longer doing business with them aren't overreacting, but choosing to no longer support an intentionally negligent company.
It's easy as shit to not use Steam or give them any money. Gaming was just fine without Valve before they came around with Steam, and it'll be fine without it when I elect to no longer give them money to fund them giving away the home addresses of domestic violence victims. They don't have a special case where they implicitly deserve to continue doing business when it's clear they don't give a shit or have even the basic empathy for their customers over making a few more bucks for an hour.
I'm saying this as someone that has a game on Steam right now. I will no longer do any business with them as a customer or as a developer.

I like that there still isn't an apology and or notice of what occurred (it can be vague) in my email, this is like company pr 101.
By Prototype Viktor Go To PostYou got a email from them? Also Valve employees probably like DMV workersNo, I haven't, that's my point; they can't even do basic communication in the wake of personal data leaks/breach/whatever euphemism for their big fuck up.
I'm upset at the screw-up happening and worred about my info getting out there, but I also know I have a ton of games on Steam and won't be eschewing them in defiance.
I think for many it's not the malfunction but that it was left up too long. However, it's not enough for me to ditch an entire game library.

If I could get civ 5 to work without Steam I wouldn't even have it installed ever outside playing a bunch of times Reccetear years ago

Maybe for you. But my two most played games are exclusively on steam, so not much chance of me dropping it for a long time. Fair enough if you want to stop using Steam, it's understandable, but without Steam my enjoyment of gaming would go down a lot.
Updated my Steam password. Set up Steam Mobile Authenticator. Changed my email password. My account says I don't have any payment methods associated with the account, which makes sense since I've only ever used PayPal. Still ain't stop dudes from trying to get into my shit. If you used a CC though it does look like your address and everything displays. Truly fucked up. Valve ain't said shit and it's a workday. Probably won't either. Will most likely be taking future purchases to Origin.
It's stupid af that I haven't gotten an email about this and only know about what happened due to this thread. Unforeseen shit happens, and I get that, but it's about to be 2016 and this type of silence shouldn't cut it.
Valve needs competition.

I went under Account Settings and tried to add $5. It then asks you for your pay method. I've always used PayPal, but I think if you saved a CC on Steam all of your info auto populates there. So if someone got into your account and selected one of those CC linked to your Steam account, they could see all your shit. That's why people are furious. And Valve ain't said shit.

That's my thing. Shit happens. OK. So how are you going to respond/fix it? Valve has handled it in the worst possible way.

Addresses, names, phone numbers were visible if a person visited those pages within a certain window according to people who logged in. I'm sure that the number wasn't too many precisely because a very specific window/section had to be accessed within a given time frame then was seen by say the next person or however the caching system works. HOWEVER, the company has been not just cavalier about such a flaw happening but absolutely silent save a bit of prodding by gaming journalist outfits. It's not only unprofessional, it might actually be criminal in some places to not inform customers of such a breach of information.
Wow valve really fucked up and they still haven't said shit. I rarely if ever log into steam nowadays and luckily I haven't stored my payment information there for the past year. But still valve should say something otherwise I can't exactly see why I should support them again with this level of fuckery.
