They played us. They played all of us.
LOS ANGELES (Dec. 6, 2015) - During this past weekend’s PlayStation Experience in San Francisco, SQUARE ENIX® debuted a new trailer for FINAL FANTASY® VII REMAKE, the full remake of the award-winning role-playing game, FINAL FANTASY VII. The new trailer features the first CG scenes as well as gameplay footage. FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.
They played us. They played all of us.
In was going to give this a replay to try to see why people slurp ffvii so hard. But that news. Kills my interest. I just can't do episodic games.
By DY_nasty Go To PostI might be as whore, but I'm nobody's bitchso day 2 then?
Fuck off SE
dy pls.
we both know you're gonna cave within 24hr of release.
but i didn't know episodic was trash.

let me step back off of that, personally - i think its a crap way to cut costs and string people along at the same time. i'm still mad about telltale:borderlands taking damn near a year to wrap up.
In addition to what DY is saying, Tales From the Borderlands is one of the many examples of episodic content getting buggier over time. A lot of polish is placed on the first couple episodes, while the later episodes get less polish.
Plus... this is Final Fantasy VII we're talking about here. This game had about 40 hours of content, an explorable overworld, side quests, etc. If they plan on releasing the remake in bits and pieces, what content is gonna be cut out? How many episodes will there be? Will the game be linear? Will it just be a set of vignettes that re-tell the game's biggest moments?
This announcement by SE not only places the quality of the project in doubt... it places the project itself in doubt. I have no idea what FFVIIHDR is now.

f it were possible that we had all the right facilities and the right environment to be able to make and prepare a Final Fantasy VII remake within a year, we'd very much like a go at it! But even Final Fantasy XIII has taken over three and a half years to create. If we were to recreate Final Fantasy VII with the same level of graphical detail as you see in Final Fantasy XIII, we'd imagine that that would take as much as three or four times longer than the three and a half years it has taken to put this Final Fantasy together! So it's looking pretty unrealistic! But if any such situation came about by any remote chance, then yes, we'd do it!"
so there you have it. old words have come true.

Telltale is known for buggy games, so this is hardly comparable to a AAA title.
Sounds like it's just the sheer size that requires to split the game, not really great, but let's wait until we see how it's actually split.
And it sounds like they'll include the same experience from the original, plus additional content.
Gonna be more likely split like the original game with 3 discs.
Splits will be different obviously, but I guess it's gonna be 3 different parts.
Allthough I'm really doubtful that people are willed to pay 60 bucks for each part, so it will be interesting to see how exactly they will pull it off.
By K@do Go To Posttbf, the OG FF7 was split into 3 discs.stahp
SE just retaining the essense of the game.
By PSYCH! Go To PostLOLSorry that was a dumb one :P
To be more serious, I can understand the problems if they stick to the original locations.
If you take a look at recent examples of bigger RPGs and compare them, it should be pretty hard to pull it off in one game.
Witcher 3 had 3 big cities, the rest of it were small villages that reused alot of assets.
FF7 had :
Banora Village, Bone Village,City of the Ancients,Corel,Cosmo Canyon,Costa del Sol,Fort Condor,Gold Saucer,Gongaga,Icicle Inn
Junon,Kalm,Mideel,Midgar,Nibelheim,Rocket Town,Temple of the Ancients.
Obviously not every single one of them is big, but there are some big ass areas and I can see the problem that comes up with that, unless they cut some content.
Visually they also don't look all that similar, with a few exceptions here and there.
seriously, though.
the episodic makes some semblance of logic.
like if you wanted to go further into the story in an open world, you would've had to switch to the next disc.
kinda shitty they're making you pay seperate for all 3 discs.
the dealbreaker is still that horrid ARPG crap.

Some more info, apparently the game was just too big to make it a single release. They're adding tons of new content, even if they'll have to cut some things. Cross-dressing part still in.
Battle system is "full of action but tactical". There's some kind of ATB in, but they wouldn't say what. You can control the other party members, not only has to be Cloud.

ARPG rox sox
The logical conclusion to gamers buying DLC and expansion packs to games with barely any content for 60 bucks.
By Xpike Go To Posthttp://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1151408&page=91Does Square think anyone believes this?

It's 2015 and we have games like GTA V, Witcher 3, Just Cause, Fallout and a plethora of huge open world titles.
No way is Square going to create worlds or towns as detailed, interactive or as detailed as any of the aforementioned titles.
They've never ever showed the ability to do so.
They waited so long to do the remake and are going to milk it for all its worth. Which is fine. I don't care, I'm only interested to see if Nomura can make the combat fun.
That 'game is too big' explanation is so laughable though.
looking at my pc version of FF7, most of the data on the disks are just fucking FMV.
BU BU BU MULTIPLE DISCS TOO MUCH CONTENT OMMMMMMGGGGGGGG.
nah blood you're just looking for ways to milk the cucked dick of Final Fantasy fans. Sell 3 games instead of 1.

As much as I like Telltale, Capcom is the only company that did episodic gaming correctly, imo. Not having to wait 5 months or whatever for the next episode was great. So, unless this is more like Revelations 2 and less like everything else...I'll wait.
yall must have forgot how long it takes for SE to make a game--and how fukin large of a game FFVII was
i'm actually whatever about FFVII being episodic--means we actually get the game quicker--I'm more confused about gameplay differences between these games. Hopefully each one features improvements over the previous battle system. Right now I'm thinking of 1 episode being action like, another being turn based...thats nuts.

I don't have a nostalgia boner for any FF game so this is all just interesting to me. There was no way to please everyone. If it's just FFVII 1 & 2, I think people will tolerate that, but like JWill is saying, what the hell IS FFVII Remake even?
By reilo Go To PostShould've never bought Enix.Sakaguchi bankrupted them with the FF movie lol.

I don't think they are making the argument that it's too big file size wise. At least I hope not.
But why it's going to cost a lot more money, to fully make these areas in 3d and with a working engine, rather than 2d backgrounds with 3d figures walking on top of it is obvious. It's too big to get done in a reasonable time frame, and money wise. But they will no doubt milk it, I mean, saving a FF7 remake to milk it absolutely makes sense and gamers have shown that they are more than willing to cash out on any trash dlc and shitty deals.

the ARPG gonna make this shit hot. putting out a AAA straight up turn based game like FF7 in 2015 is just asking for a flop game.
i wouldnt even cop that shit and i grew up on turnbased shit.
