Who else has checked out of gaming to some degree?

People keep coming up to me asking me when I'm going to get a XB1 or PS4 or whatever. At this point I play 1 video game on my 360 and have no desire to purchase anymore consoles. I feel the games of today are just bleh and Its not really fun anymore to sit in my room and game all day/night or whatever. I enjoy doing other things alot more now.
Anyone else getting pressured into purchasing a console by friends? Any of yall losing interest in gaming altogether?

I can't play most triple A games that aren't 2K or the occasional COD multiplayer.

I was really into FPS's, racing games, and GTA. Now I just play GTA Online for about a hour a day. I'm just tired of it. I love my friends and shit but I don't want to do it anymore I just hope they understand.

Got Dota which I always play no matter how unimpressed I am with whatever is current, but often go through months at a time where I'm either not playing anything, or just flitting from game to game, getting bored after a couple of hours and not completing them
Sometimes need a game to reignite my passion for it, but if that game disappoints like MGSV did, my interest drops even further. Thankfully Fallout 4 seems to be getting me right back into it, though it was like 30-50 hours before I got bored of TW3 and MGSV, so the same could happen.
Worst it's been personally is around this time last year when the AAA market was so lacking in quality, rank average games like Wolfenstein, DA:I, and Shadow of Mordor were talked about in such high regard, they were hugely disappointing and honestly made me feel like that sector of the market was headed towards a cliff.

I used to play everything. But I've given up on PC gaming. I'll play DOTA on occasion if the community I play with asks me, but even they haven't played in forever.
Now my diet is basically 2k Pro-AM, NHL EASHL, with my Madden league game. Call of Duty is currently the "other" game I have but I'm finding I give 0 fucks about that too.
And I have a bunch of stuff on Wii U and 3DS and I only touch those when I'm asked to play. Which is almost never now.
I realized how I couldn't game the same way anymore when I got Witcher 3 and have not gotten past the initial scene. Like, I used to love exploring that stuff, but now it seems so overwhelming. And I think what I enjoy most about gaming is team based games, and 2k happens to be one I'm not trash at!

i refuse to allow myself to be a fighting game addict anymore so i'm constantly bouncing between genres
I don't think it a genre thing I just feel like I'm wasting time. Time that I should be using to do other things. I love music about to go back to school for it and computer science on the side. I just feel like every time I play games now its a waste of my time.
I've played approximately 30 minutes of videogames in 2015 - and that was across two occasions at the very beginning of January.

If it wasn't for Rocket League I would be pretty much out. I keep buying new games to try and recapture the magic though.
CS:GO had a grip on me for a while but I don't think I've played a full match in a month. MGS V is cool but I've had it for months now and I'm only 20 hours in. I've only played an hour of Fallout 4 so far.

I have but that's normal. I tend to play games more when its really cold outside. This warmer than normal weather means I can continue to go out drinking when I have free time.

I just scaled the amount of stuff I buy way back... I tried to only I will really play. I still love PC gaming because of the different types of games you can find
The quantity of games I'm willing to try has shrunk down drastically. I will not try out games like Destiny that are on the obvious lists of enthusiasts. I just don't care for exhaustive knowledge of what's hot. I have my go-to's:
FIFA
Fire Emblem
Football Manager
Counter Strike
GTAs
And the occasional Fallout or Tomb Raider. I bought 2k 3 weeks ago and I've yet to try it. Even 2k I'm not too interested anymore, FIFA replaced it.

Im waiting for that next big graphical PC game to get back into that area. I actually enjoy the process of researching and building a PC vs playing.

I bought MGSV on launch and it's still shrink wrapped. What does that say?
My whole life was videogames, though. Even professionally, I was a game critic and the owner of a major PlayStation site for over 10 years. At first it was the greatest thing ever: free videogames! But it became a chore. Every game starts to blend into one and feel like I'm playing the same shit over and over again. After I left the industry I reduced myself to just J-RPGs and racers. J-RPGs like Final Fantasy I still hold dearly...I double dipped FFX HD Remake for PS3 and PS4 and actually beat it. And I will do the same for FFXII HD and (provided they don't fuck it up) the FFVII Remake which I've been starving for.
It's unlikely I'll buy or play a new game for many months. I did like GTAV a lot though, especially for PS4, but again...25% into it and it started to feel way too repetitive.
Games like Fallout 3 and The Witcher also just feel the same to me, and wear me out because they're too goddamned big. I enjoy the days of Zelda OOT and LTTP and Super Mario RPG, even the Final Fantasy games I just mentioned where the size of the world was just right.
And I pretty much can't stand 99% of FPS games like COD and Battlefield at this point.

Or that you have to play games every day.
Just remember what you liked doing. Find games that match that, and enjoy those games.

At some point most gamers seem to get conditioned to "fit in" and because of that we move away from the games / genre's we really liked to try other stuff, that we didn't really like. More so, we're pushed to try and do "social" things with games. But personally, i love a really good classic WRPG like baldurs gate 2. Where it's just me versus a scenario playing out a story as the character i want.
I still go back and replay Dragon Age Origins. As its game play is really very different for each character you play as, and play through as.
TLDR: play the games you want how you want.
