First lets all take a moment to look at how wrong Moris was.
Mess.
Anyways... Year 1 is over. So please get it all out of your system now. This OT will hit on the big changes and highlights for the 2.0 update (its free, 18gb, and still gonna be a massive change from how you've been playing before) as well as TTK (it ain't) which brings the new classes, game modes, story, etc.
2.0
A lot has changed since release. A lot. I've thrown out the Diablo 3 comparisons before, but its actually a pretty legitimate comparison in terms of the overhaul from vanilla to its first major update. Some highlights ->
UI overhaul. Story segments being redone. New, simplified and streamlined economy. Improved matchmaking (not for raids lawl). Bigger vault + exotic blueprints. Public Events are now public af. Strikes have some variables introduced, more effort made towards replay value. Strikes also give bonuses for consecutive runs. SMART LOOT. Other new activities. Ghosts, Swords, Artifacts, etc.
Everything you know about leveling up is in the bushes.
The old system of praying to the RNG gods for armor to take you to next level is gone.
Yes - your progress is no longer gated by that purple bastard. Old and busted vs new hotness.
Its still a bit hazy how exactly the new experience based system is going to work, but this space is reserved to give a proper layout and tips for new players.
Weapon Balance 2.0 is a thing. Dust off your ARs and throw your Thorns in the trash. Everyone is gonna be a n00b again. Blink is getting nerfed too, so if you've played the PvP lately and been killed by a teleporting bastard with a shotgun - know that those days are gone.
New Strike Mechanics //
If you stay behind for too long and the rest of the party is moving ahead, you get teleported forward into the fight.
2-3 different enemy configurations on subsequent playthroughs, often rotating in different enemy species.
Multiple narrations for each configuration to provide additional insight into the storyline and background of the Strike.
Strike Designs are aimed at being 'faster', with more close-range action as opposed to long distance, open air cheese races.
Also, certain items can only be obtained from particular strikes.
Story in the base game has been reworked and expanded from its initial entry - earlier reef access, ghosts can scan items/people for lore, more info on stuff that shouldn't be locked behind the grimoire.
Patrol matters. Solo and fireteam bounties plus new, player initiated public events give you more reason than ever to bullshit on Venus.
Economy stuffs...
Xur will now sell the Three of Coins to boost your chance of an exotic drop on your next boss you fight
Vendors and NPCs have been retooled to offer quests, stories, and insight into the world as you level up your character from 1-40
Faction specific Quests and Rewards are now available for Factions you've pledged to
Faction Rep can be purchased with Motes of Light, Weapon Parts, Armor Materials, and Ammo Synthesises at their respective Vendor
Instead of Class Items, you will pledge to Factions by going to their respective Vendor. This will cost 2,500 Glimmer and can be done once a week. Faction and Vanguard will receive the reputation at the same time.
Banshee//Gunsmith (New Faction)
You test Prototype Weapons in the field against certain situations to gain rep (Requires Level 38)
At higher levels you receive more Prototype Weapons
Reaching Level 1 with Banshee allows you access to "Armsday", a weekly purchase (on Wednesdays) that allows you to order Legendary weapons with Glimmer. Armsday Packages have 5 Legendary weapons available
More yet to be spoken of. Next is KANG stuff. Here's the story so far...
You killed Crota, the son of Cosmo-Satan AKA Oryx - and now he's coming for that ass.
Nightstalker
Stormcaller
Sunbreaker
4 New Strikes
The best raid yet according to the staff
6-7 hours of (proclaimed, we'll see) story AND story after completion
PVP. New game modes
Rift looks like a lot of fun. A lot.
Zone Control - or how some people try to play real Control, think Domination from CoD
Mayhem - Rapidly charging abilities and supers. Why run from the cheese when you can embrace it? Become it?
Elimination and Salvage both becoming mainstays
Stacks and Bundles of weapons, armor, etc
Court of Oryx - think Prison of Elders if it was in patrol mode, with more than a dozen players, and Shawn Michaels
More to be added as info comes out and is verified. A lot more. You know how Bungie is.
Find us @ http://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Detail/180028 to join up. I am here for the people.
Expect A LOT more on the clan stuff as the PS4 community updates come out. Until then, shoot me an add on PSN/4: DY_nastyIV
Downloading that massive 18GB update now.
I think I'm gonna hop on tomorrow or whenever it finishes and just create a new character. Start all the way over. I wasn't that far to begin with. Never did a raid. None of that. Might as well start clean for TTK.

Gonna wait until I either get a flux of Xbox credit or the price goes down (lol Activision side eye). Life is too short, even if the game isn't dog poo.

By Smokey Go To Postguess i'll try it todaythere's no rush. as much as there is going on right now, this is pretty much limbo in the game right now. new stuff is there, but its not all there - and old stuff is still acting against the new stuff too.
that update combined with psn shit downloading took pretty much all day
felt overwhelmed the second i logged in this morning--this update was too stronk--changes everywhere
first thing i noticed in PVP was that...there are definite range advantages in PVP now. Aside from blink shotgunning and shotgunning in general in the past, 1.0 was about a bunch of weapons that were too stronk for any range, any situation. My pulse rifle felt good from mid to long range, but I didn't feel comfortable about the idea of outshooting an AR up close, or a hand cannon, fusion rifle, etc.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postfelt overwhelmed the second i logged in this morning--this update was too stronk--changes everywhereYeah, its definitely immediately apparent. I took a couple of shots with Hawkmoon to knock the MGS5 rust off and that gun is dead. Its just nowhere near as good as it used to be. The range dropoff, the RoF... its too much of a gamble to use in close quarters shootouts and its impossible to bang with people at a distance now.

The Hawkmoon is the one weapon that the greater community is right about so far. It took a mean hit.
If anything, Bad Juju feels like kang right now
wtfffffffffffffff these perks for field test are dope
kills with this weapon grant enhanced motion tracker resolution
sniper rifle scope highlights enemies with low health
weapon reloads and handles faster when wielder is the last living player on their fire team
these weapons are white omg
also, for new players - the way that quests and story string together now is top notch shit on bungies part. just getting to the moon at level 8 or so you'll be hit with story and lore at the end of missions that ties the main (untold) story into TDB and other smaller stuff. just a great touch. no better time to be a new player
edit: mah gawd the new fusion rifle is like shooting sex

I'm loving the variety in the crucible now. Options are a thing.

The liquid filled scope on the test fusion rifle is neato. it even sloshes around depending on which direction you're moving
You know what I love most about the new bounties? I can finish them all in one single fucking game.
I will say that its waaay better than its stats suggest. It should be a trash fusion rifle but honestly it feels more reliable than Plan C right now.

I do wonder what the purpose of general leveling is. I went from a 30 to a 34 with my alt yesterday and didn't get one bit stronger. If light level is all that matters, I'd have preferred the same system as before, just with the expanded light options from ghosts, weapons, etc.
I really, really love the fact that there is real variety in the crucible for once. Yes, there are shotguns everywhere still but because Blink is TRASH now they can be countered unlike before. The time-to-kill has definitely gone up all around, and I love it. Shootouts are shootouts again - not some weird take on gears/cod.
It may not last until next week, but for now its great.

By blackace Go To PostI feel lost as fuck... wondering if I should start over.. I was only like lv15 when I shelved it..I'd actually recommend it if you weren't 20 or higher tbh.

One good thing is that its good for getting power leveled. I got pushed through the nightfall and weekly with my alt and got a guaranteed purple. Wouldn't have even been able to do the nightfall prior to that. I suppose its a way to bypass grinding faction rep as the way you get those initial purples or new armor sets in general.
I'm ready to cheese it up with my universal remote tomorrow in crucible with my blink max agility hunter

i was struggling to jump on on a fukin ledge in one of the maps but i only played one crucible match in 2.0 so far
these bounties that are like...hey, play with friends, win a match--who woulda thought--they are actually fun compared to the bullshit they usually have up there

Are you not able to sell weapons you get to a merchant? I got a bunch of stuff from Crucible yesterday (imagine that). Is dismantling the only option?
By Smokey Go To PostAre you not able to sell weapons you get to a merchant? I got a bunch of stuff from Crucible yesterday (imagine that). Is dismantling the only option?yep, dismantling is all you got - for now
infusing comes later, but that'll get its own writeup
one thing i'm realizing after going through the game with an alt--you should just play crucible to level up as much as you can before you even worry about PVE content. Your going to get worked more than likely until you at least round out a decent skill tree, but your going to be farrrrr better off by grinding through 8 hours of crucible than 8 hours of story--reason being at best you're going to come out of the story with some blue armor and a purple strangers rifle--and then rage when you realize you don't have any fukin marks or any means besides RNG to get your light to a place worth a damn, because purple armor is hard to come by at first
that's where i'm at right now...having literally gotten my alt to 34 and sitting here with an exotic I was lucky enough to have gotten from my titan and a purple armor piece I only got cuz of the new RNG in the weeklys yesterday--besides that my ass has got to work for marks
i've been thinking about what might be my better PVE class moving forward--my blade dancer or defender titan. The latter seems the obvious choice, but being able to go invis with three different methods (super, blink strike, crouch) gives you an excuse to never really go down, and its more flexible than the defenders skills

There'll always be a time and a place for a Defender Titan in PvE.
Bladedancers, at least until the end of year 1, get the vast majority of their use being medics lol. that may all change later when invis is needed for real mechanics (fuck crota), but ...yeah

having someone you can depend on to not wipe is a godsend though--if you've got a sunsinger and a blade dancer with a defender titan rocking a saints helm with weapons of light--there's no reason why that combo shouldn't survive any 3 man shit the game has to throw at it
which is why I'm kind of only excited about the night stalker as a class addition--both the sunbreaker and lightning lord classes are pretty much just PVP troll classes from what I can see
gunslingers, lightning lords, sunbreakers, strikers, and voidwalkers....all to the bushes for the too stronk pve stuff thats about to start popping up

They can't actually contribute like the other classes (I hate self-res Sunsingers tbh because they can do a lot more than extra life too). Defenders save asses, provide general survivability for everyone, kick out a ton of orbs, and boost DPS. For now

again I say a lot of this as it pertains to year 1 stuff which wasn't too mechanics heavy, that'll change in the future. invis might that truth. defenders lack of mobility may be a huge weakness. its subject to change dramatically imo just from what ive seen from the strikes so far

Just not sure if I'm ready to put on the wingsuit and fly
yea, i've thought about that--right now i'm caught up with the PVE pace, but at some point I'm going to fall behind
before I just dropped the game entirely, but now I think I'll just stick to PVP during the times I want to put the game on ice. That way if you ever want to catch up with the PVE grind, you'll at least have the marks to get you caught up with the armor and weapons that'll let you do that.
You could do the same with strikes theoretically, though those are going to start to outpace you if you're too idle. Crucible is always there though.

Yeah the writing in destiny is slum tier. Not entirely unexpected given some lf the legal issues surrounding the game. Doesn't really matter who you put behind VO.
