First lets all take a moment to look at how wrong Moris was.
Mess.

Anyways... Year 1 is over. So please get it all out of your system now. This OT will hit on the big changes and highlights for the 2.0 update (its free, 18gb, and still gonna be a massive change from how you've been playing before) as well as TTK (it ain't) which brings the new classes, game modes, story, etc.

2.0
A lot has changed since release. A lot. I've thrown out the Diablo 3 comparisons before, but its actually a pretty legitimate comparison in terms of the overhaul from vanilla to its first major update. Some highlights ->

UI overhaul. Story segments being redone. New, simplified and streamlined economy. Improved matchmaking (not for raids lawl). Bigger vault + exotic blueprints. Public Events are now public af. Strikes have some variables introduced, more effort made towards replay value. Strikes also give bonuses for consecutive runs. SMART LOOT. Other new activities. Ghosts, Swords, Artifacts, etc.

Everything you know about leveling up is in the bushes.

The old system of praying to the RNG gods for armor to take you to next level is gone.
Yes - your progress is no longer gated by that purple bastard. Old and busted vs new hotness.

Its still a bit hazy how exactly the new experience based system is going to work, but this space is reserved to give a proper layout and tips for new players.

Weapon Balance 2.0 is a thing. Dust off your ARs and throw your Thorns in the trash. Everyone is gonna be a n00b again. Blink is getting nerfed too, so if you've played the PvP lately and been killed by a teleporting bastard with a shotgun - know that those days are gone.

New Strike Mechanics //
If you stay behind for too long and the rest of the party is moving ahead, you get teleported forward into the fight.
2-3 different enemy configurations on subsequent playthroughs, often rotating in different enemy species.
Multiple narrations for each configuration to provide additional insight into the storyline and background of the Strike.
Strike Designs are aimed at being 'faster', with more close-range action as opposed to long distance, open air cheese races.
Also, certain items can only be obtained from particular strikes.

Story in the base game has been reworked and expanded from its initial entry - earlier reef access, ghosts can scan items/people for lore, more info on stuff that shouldn't be locked behind the grimoire.

Patrol matters. Solo and fireteam bounties plus new, player initiated public events give you more reason than ever to bullshit on Venus.

Economy stuffs...
Xur will now sell the Three of Coins to boost your chance of an exotic drop on your next boss you fight
Vendors and NPCs have been retooled to offer quests, stories, and insight into the world as you level up your character from 1-40
Faction specific Quests and Rewards are now available for Factions you've pledged to
Faction Rep can be purchased with Motes of Light, Weapon Parts, Armor Materials, and Ammo Synthesises at their respective Vendor
Instead of Class Items, you will pledge to Factions by going to their respective Vendor. This will cost 2,500 Glimmer and can be done once a week. Faction and Vanguard will receive the reputation at the same time.
Banshee//Gunsmith (New Faction)
You test Prototype Weapons in the field against certain situations to gain rep (Requires Level 38)
At higher levels you receive more Prototype Weapons
Reaching Level 1 with Banshee allows you access to "Armsday", a weekly purchase (on Wednesdays) that allows you to order Legendary weapons with Glimmer. Armsday Packages have 5 Legendary weapons available

More yet to be spoken of. Next is KANG stuff. Here's the story so far...

You killed Crota, the son of Cosmo-Satan AKA Oryx - and now he's coming for that ass.
Nightstalker

Stormcaller

Sunbreaker

4 New Strikes
The best raid yet according to the staff
6-7 hours of (proclaimed, we'll see) story AND story after completion
PVP. New game modes
Rift looks like a lot of fun. A lot.
Zone Control - or how some people try to play real Control, think Domination from CoD
Mayhem - Rapidly charging abilities and supers. Why run from the cheese when you can embrace it? Become it?
Elimination and Salvage both becoming mainstays

Stacks and Bundles of weapons, armor, etc

Court of Oryx - think Prison of Elders if it was in patrol mode, with more than a dozen players, and Shawn Michaels

More to be added as info comes out and is verified. A lot more. You know how Bungie is.
