Resident Evil 2 is getting a fully-fledged remake, Capcom has announced.

The project is in development at Capcom's R&D Division 1, with Yoshiaki Hirabayashi leading the charge. It's worth noting that Hirabayashi also served as the producer on this year's remake of the original Resident Evil.

"You've been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven't been able to make it happen...until now!" Hirabayashi said in Capcom's "Special Message" announcement. "We at R&D Division 1 will do our best to take on your feedback and deliver the gameplay experience you've been waiting for."

No specific release window or platforms were announced; however, it looks like the project may be quite a ways off, as Hirabayashi added: "It will be some time before we can bring you an update on this project."

No platforms were announced.
