Takes place in New Orleans around 1968. Some kind of revenge storyline. Protagonist Lincoln Clay was an orphan who was always looking for family, turned to gangs, the armed forces and eventually the black mob. Clay returns from Vietnam and some sequence of events places him in a war against the Italian mob.

He really does look like a less ugly Blake Griffin.
By Dnipro Go To Postgreat gig for Griffin.

YOU MEAN LIKE THE KIND OF GUY WHO WOULD BE IN THE MAFIA?!

Trailer was good enough, I loved the first and quite liked the second as well, so hopefully it should be as good.
By Kikarian Go To PostI don't know whether I'm a fan of fighting against the Mafia. There's more than one Mafia.
I wanted to work for them :(
Cosa Nostra and La Cosa Nostra are the italian parts, depending on the time obviously, as the italian mafia changed pretty much during certain periods.
You had other criminal structures who you could also count as Mafia, the irish part had a pretty big name, and even the jewish parts known as Kosher Nostra played a role.
There were always black mafia structures, so I don't think going away from the typical italian mafia is a big letdown.
The real letdown so far is the first impression with alot of focus on action and cover shooting....
I really hope we don't get another open world shooter action flick...
Just want a linear experience with a great storyline, and maybe some variation how to direct the criminal elements.
To be more precise, what kind of crimes you want to commit and allow, this would be interesting and different outcomes to that.
The first Mafia was freaking great, the whole narration was spot on and you really felt like a part of it, from the beginning to the end.
Mafia 2 wasn't that great, but it wasn't a bad game either.
It was just more like you could play alot of movie scenes you know out of certain movies, instead of an own good plot and narration.
Oh and I hope they don't pull out a Rocky style story on the MC.
Not seeing the Blake comparisons.... Vin a little bit..

By Pennywise Go To PostThere's more than one Mafia. There is actually only one. All the other ones you listed are just other criminal organizations. They don't even call themselves Mafia for obvious reasons.
These games were specifically about playing as a member of the Mafia and not fighting against them. That's the problem I have with Mafia 3, I don't want to fight against them. If the main char had been an Italian I would still don't like it because of that.
Still, the trailer looked good and the game will probably be fun to play but I need to see it as a completely different game which has very little to do with its predecessors.

No one calls themselves the mafia the Italian mafia doesn't... the Japanese mafia doesn't... they all have their own names for that thing of their's
However the term mafia appiles to any large body of organized crime.
The Italian word Mafia specifically and only refers to the sicilian Cosa Nostra. I think as an Southern Italian, actually being born there I know a bit about that. Beside that, this series was always about the "original" Mafia. Tell me with a straight face that a new Yakuza game starring an Italian fighting against the Yakuza wouldn't be a bit weird.

The word is likely Arabic in roots and as it is used in English to describe any large body of organized crime.. Now if the game was called Cosa Nostra like your example you'd have a point..

I've seen several people on the internet saying this. I'm having trouble believing them for some weird reason.
Mafia II was hot shit, the only thing that grabbed me was finding out old school Playboys and checking vintage babes.
Mafia was alright.
Unless they really changed things from II, I don't see myself playing this series ever again. Boring ass empty city with nothing to do. Ridiculous pacing (what is it, 2 chapters before they burn your house down?). Wonky shooting and driving. Even the story was crap.

Of course you have, you're living in a country full to the brim with racists. Nothing weird about it. One could argue that it isn't very nice to project this on everyone outside of the US but that's also not surprising.
By JayEleven Go To PostI've seen several people on the internet saying this. I'm having trouble believing them for some weird reason. It's fair to assume that people want to play the Mafia in a Mafia game especially if you did so in the two games before. I for one like the idea of taking them down more. Franchises should shake it up more often, it's interesting to see the Mafia from another perspective. Tackling the romanticised image of the Mafia could be a neat idea if executed properly. I also don't care if the protagonist is black or asian or whatever. That said, the gameplay shown looked quite weak.

I don't think I'm projecting. Every country is brimming with racists, but the ones with more homogenous populations don't have to confront the issue the way more diverse countries have to. I just know that there is a large and vocal group of gamers bent against any kind of advancement of minority representation in games who will do backflips to justify their bigotry, no matter the circumstance. They'll make demands and whine and complain and make accusations of PC-ness ruining games while the irony of simultaneously criticizing and tearing down minorities lobbying in the other direction goes over their heads. And in this case they'll make a bunch of noise over a game series that isn't even particularly well made or well received or successful in the first place and pretend that it's some kind of sacred cow, as if the vast majority of games of it's kind don't already cater to their "preferences."
What's wrong with what I said? I'm trying to explain why I would like to play as a Mafiosi in a game called Mafia and people would just love to call me a racist because of it. Because that must be the obvious answer.
I explained that I'm Italian, that I'm not from the US, that the colour of the new main char isn't my problem but what the new premise of the game is and still all what this discussion is about that it's obviously about Racism. The only thing I could do to satisfy you is accepting the changes and start praising the decisions the team made. That is interesting indeed.
I would still love to get an answer to my Yakuza question.

I don't know that you're racist. I'm just betting that a lot of the people who are making your argument are.
But you're still assuming it just because of what I said. And that isn't very nice. Seriously what could I do to not fall in the "maybe he is racist" group in this discussion? Should I whip out a "I have a black friend" story? That would be silly wouldn't it? You have to see how frustrating this can be.

Saw your other post and want to give you an answer. I agree with you there. But this is not what happened. What happened that my argument was dismissed because there has to be some malice behind what I said. Why can't I mention that I would like to play as a Mafiosi in a game called Mafia? I don't have a problem with a black main char, why would I? Hell, I would be ok if he was actually working with the Mafia and not against them. That is my only problem. If you don't believe me there is nothing more to discuss.

I think Kamorra has stated their case clearly enough that race isn't a factor but rather the setting...
why people get so sensitive about is because whenever a game like GTA or whatever gets a black main character all of a sudden people don't want to hear rap music or black gangs are classless and so on and so on...
As for Yakuza I would love to see a game that had half character who got used and sets out for revenge but that's neither here nor there

I never understood the outrage about San Andreas. I loved everything about it. That classless thing is weird too. The only class you see in the mafia is in US movies/games. There isn't much class involved in reality.
If you guys are interested I highly recommend you guys watching Gomorrah. It's a Italian tv series about the Camorra in Napoli. There's also a movie. Both are based on the same named book by Roberto Saviano https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberto_Saviano. It's good stuff.

same thing with Yakuza in Japan... the idea is romantic but in reality they are scumbags who scam elderly people
There was a time in Italy where the very first organizations were actually kinda good, in a Robin Hood way. But these times are long gone. Where I come from is a, outside of Italy little known, group called 'Ndrangheta. Funnily enough it's the most powerful criminal organization in the world right now and I can't even describe what scumbags these people are. Mexican cartels are a joke compared to these fuckers.
I also found this which explains what I earlier meant with "there is only one mafia"

as far as money is concerned nothing comes close to the Yamaguchi gumi is sitting at like 80 billion
I'm not expert (heh) the wiki article mentioned it.
It's mindboggeling.
A US diplomat estimated that the organization's drug trafficking, extortion and money laundering activities accounted for at least 3% of Italy's GDP.[2] Since the 1950s, the organization has spread towards northern Italy and worldwide. The 'Ndrangheta is currently the most powerful criminal organization in the world with an annual revenue that stands at around €53 billion (roughly $72 billion USD or ₤44 billion British pounds).https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%27Ndrangheta

I really love the narrative and seeing such a theme being tackled in a video game Id just prefer it wasnt this one. Like many other have said I want to pretend I'm Michael Corleone.
if they wanted to do something different I would have loved it they had used Mario Puzo's "The Sicilian" (one of my favourite books of all time) as basis and set it in Sicily

Yes, they should. Maybe I'm alone in this but too many people really believe "Stop talking about and it'll go away!"
It's an asinine question. Do video games have to include people? Do video games have to include violence? Video games don't have to do shit but be fun.
Racism in the context of how real life works/worked? I'm watching OZ and there is plenty of racism on display but that's because
a) it's a prison
b) most of the dudes are criminal scumbags and
c) the reality of the times

a game about a black war vet taking on the Italian mob in the 1960s without any sort of racism woulda been weird.
You already know there's gonna be at least 2 good white people side characters down for the cause.

Tony Soprano was a giant bigot in general. They had an entire storyline dedicated to them killing one of their own because he was gay. It made for great television but it was extremely disgusting character behavior.
Well the Vito thing was ironically more complicated than his sexuality for Tony, Tony was willing to let it slide because of his earning ability, the homophobia and threats came from Phil Leotardo. In order to avoid war with Phil's crew, he took out Vito.
By rvy Go To PostPhil's crew took out Vito, not Tony. They got to him first yes, forgot, but Tony ordered a hit too. It became another point of contention with Phil because Vito was Tony's to take out not his.

Your right the whole Soprano crew was Bigots.
However, I always felt it was Tony liked vito as a friend so they were willing to him being gay slide as long as he disappears so they can sweep the whole thing under the rug. Yeah that was homophobic as hell but for those guys it was better than anyone expected including Vito. Phil forced the issue.
That "he's a earner" line was how the crew justified it to themselves and each other. That's why when the guy who killed vito then went to brag about it. The second he made a homophobic joke about the NJ crew they snapped and just killed him. It was as more about revenge than anything else.

I just want my Mafia sequel about Mafia.
I wouldn't want a Django Unchained sequel starring a Swede
I wouldn't want a San Andreas sequel starring a French drug lord
I wouldn't want a Godfather part IV starring a Mexican
I don't care if people on the internet will call me racist. Once you make something that revolves a lot around the race of protagonists just change the name if you want to do something else.
With that said I won't cry and pray to my personal Hitler altar, I'll probably buy it anyway since we know so little about it for now. Will it have 4 players coop?
