Reirom is even better looking with a proper dslr
Took some photos yesterday but don’t think any of them turned out well. I’ll post some later in any case and let y’all judge.

well he looks good either way ok
It's fireworks season. High exposure is so much fun, but so fucking difficult to get on first tries without compensating during development.

I really want to go upgrade to a Sony A7III. But I really don't want to change lens ecosystems. The D850 is much too out of my price range to upgrade to.
I know the D850 is selling very well and near impossible to get but Nikon please price your bodies more competitively.

Fuck Sony menus system. Wait until Nikon announced their full frame mirrorless at the end of this year
A lot of enthusiasts and professionals like Connor Surdi and Fami have been swearing by the A7III now. Other than the ergonomics being slightly worse, heard nothing but good things about it at a competitive price. Only con moving to mirrorless is giving up the backlog of glass, but the new FX Mirrorless bodies are going to have new lens mounts anyways. They'll probably have an adapter for the F Mount glass, but it is still an expense since Nikon bodies are going to end up being 25% more expensive anyways.
The D610 has been treating me very well, but eventually I am going to have to go for a new shutter or a new body once I hit actuations.
Fireworks season and Tanabata with wife is nice.

The rumors were true:
Nikon Inc. is pleased to announce the development of a next-generation full-frame (Nikon FX-format) mirrorless camera and NIKKOR lenses featuring a new mount.
The new mirrorless camera and NIKKOR lenses that are in development will enable a new dimension in optical performance with the adoption of a new mount. The system is the result of Nikon’s unsurpassed optical and manufacturing capabilities gained through more than a century of imaging expertise. Proven reliability and trusted performance are core traits of Nikon Digital-SLRs, and decades of feedback from professional creators around the world has further contributed to the development of this system.
Additionally, an F-Mount adapter is being developed that will enable the use of a wide variety of F-Mount NIKKOR lenses with the new camera.https://www.nikonusa.com/en/about-nikon/press-room/press-release/jjkjhg6g/Nikon-Announces-Development-of-Next-Generation-Full-Frame-Mirrorless-Camera-and-NIKKOR-Lenses%E2%80%94Featuring-a-New-Mount%E2%80%94That-Pursue-a-New-Dimension-in-Optical-Performance.html
All I want from Nikon is a revival of the DL line. Something that outperforms Sony’s RX100 series.
I'm a dumbo so do these new bodies significantly change what kind of pictures can be taken? Or is it just a generational leap in performance?
It is just a new system and standard going forward to future proof Full Frame photography. Every new body releasing going forward also have improved autofocus systems and better lowlight and ISO performance so that is also a reason to upgrade every 5 years or so.
There are pros and cons to a SLR and a mirrorless camera, but we know that mirrorless is the standard for the future and this new body is just a step towards that.
The game changer is that Nikon has the best glass in the world and they are finally addressing one of their biggest flaws by modernizing their bodies and introducing a flagship body tp the market to compete with Sony, who has been dominating the mirrorless market for a couple years.
DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras now are pretty comparable in performance.
Flagship DSLRs come with weatherproofing and sealing, decades of lenses to choose from, better battery life for long shoots, and overall better performance for taking dynamic shots like sports and macro. However DSLRs have a finite shutter life with about 150,000-200,000 actuations, shoots, before the shutter fails and you need to replace it with a new one. Mirrorless cameras don't have that problem.
Mirrorless cameras are very comparable to DSLRs now, but because of how it relies on EVFs and screen time, the battery life is worse for long shoots. But it has more modern features to compensate. Mirrorless bodies are also lighter and better for taking video than DSLRs. On paper their bodies have higher FPS speed, but because of the nature of EVF, there is a slight lag compared to a DSLR viewfinder, making it slightly slower and less reliable for dynamic shots. But technology is improving and mirrorless is going to catch up and surpass DLSRs in every aspect soon.
Honestly for most people you don't need more than 12mp in a camera and you would do well with any prime lens. These new bodies are focused towards enthusiasts and professionals who want to make the most of what you can do with a camera and the intangibles like weight, weather sealing, etc. all are a factor.

This is great news for people like me who want to invest and upgrade in the future.
But I'm likely not going to go invest in a new Nikon mirrorless body for at least another 2-3 years. I need to be be completely reassured that their new mount system and adapters work flawlessly.
My D610 also has a lot of life left since I got a new shutter on it last year. Nikon bodies are like 30% more expensive than the competition and I kind of don't want to spend the equivalent of 2,500-3,500 for a new body AND F-Mount adapter AND possibly a new lens and filters.
Nikon has a lot to prove with their upcoming release and enthusiasts are very excited.
If they can make the adapter work perfectly with F-Mount it will be the body of choice for many. The only reason why people moved from Nikon bodies is because they never modernized their bodies, only their lenses. Canon took advantage and ate that market up despite the huge catalogue of Nikon lenses. This is Nikon's chance to reestablish themselves in the camera body market if they do it right.

Sony is going to announce the A7sIII at Photokina. The rumored EVF is insane and if the camera continues to improve in low light like the A7sII did over the A7s it might be the best camera announced this year.
I wish sony would hire someone to improve their UI. It's so fucking bad

Sony ergonomics could use some work too. They're not nearly as comfortable as they could be. I find light body SLRs with weather sealing like the D610 or D750 some of the most comfortable cameras to hold. Especially with a battery grip added. It is bigger and a little heavier, but it just feels so comfortable and ergonomic to shoot on.
Thanks for the excellent summary, Shun!
There was a bright full moon last night and I tried to take a picture of it and surround objects but I just couldn't get anything good out of my D3400. :(

By Kibner Go To PostThanks for the excellent summary, Shun!for low light photos like stars and fireworks, you need a tripod and you need a way to remotely have the shutter held for 15-30 seconds at low ISO. You also need a prime lens for the best results. You can use other lenses but make sure there they are sharp and not too distorted.

You have to make sure there is a nice still view, and make sure that your setup is stable.
These kind of things are difficult but always so satisfying when you get a good shot.

Sony tech with Fuji design would be killer. The Fuji cameras fit perfectly in hand.
But really I prefer Fuji’s colors. I wish they’d develop a better low light camera like Sony’s A7s series
By Perfect Blue Go To PostNikon has finally unveiled their full-frame mirrorless the Z6 and the higher resolution Z7.Pretty disappointing specs given how long it's been in development. And that price? My god.

By Perfect Blue Go To PostDPReview says the Z7 is an upgrade on the D850. That actually sounds good to me provided the new Z-mount lenses are good.I mean it's good they priced the Z6 and the Z7 are quite a bit more expensive than a A7III/A7RIII and lacks dual-memory slots.
The quality of these better be able to justify the price difference, especially since Sony is going to be releasing the A7SIII with a new sensor soon.
Not sure what is surprising. Their bodies have always seemed disappoint on paper, their sensors have always been godlike with their glass backlog.
The price premium is completely expected because Nikon always does bodies 25% more than the competition. They know their market is in their glass and ecosystem and that's how they get enthusiasts and professionals to pay that premium or wait.
If they have the converter done right for their glass backlog, they have a selling point in the market that other brands can't really replicate.
I'm not in the market to upgrade immediately, at least not until I hit my actuations on my D610, but I do plan on getting a mirrorless Nikon in the future on a good deal.

That new stacked sensor Sony is planning is going to kill other companies. Curious how Canon responds
Meanwhile DJI announced new Drones; the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom.

Just upgraded to an X-H1 this summer, I want to learn video!
Loving it. The dials, the menus, how quick it is, etc, I've been shooting Fuji since the first x100 came out, so it's my comfort zone, and I have some lenses already (35mm f1.4, 90mm f2, 55-200, samyang 8mm).
Next purchase should be a Fuji 16mm f1.4.
Thinking about the 16-80 f4 for video too.

Finally bought a new camera today, which I have been meaning to do for a year. Got a good used camera deal, from a guy who clearly didn't use it as much as he thought he would, and now just wanted to get rid. Wanted a 70d or 80d really, but ended up with 77d th7at is probably more the rebel line than anything, but it feels really good coming from a broken ass old rebel anyway. EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 is II usm included which is the first time I've had a lense that is pretty decent at some zooming. So yeah just been messing around fully zoomed in so far, getting used to especially the touch screen and the slightly changed layout, not actually going anywhere exciting yet. But I am excited to start taking photos again.

Consider buying a 50mm f1.8 and learn portraiture with it (just use it wide open, f1.8). Very affordable. It's the stepping stone to many photo hobbyists.

Thanks for the advice. I had one before, and Cathay managed to break it only a few months after buying it, so didn't really get to use it much. Bastards. But I will probably get one again.
theres somethin kinda sexy about these new mirrorless cameras, I'm tempted to blow my money on that canon eos r even though I don't know anything about photography, maybe it's not a good beginner cam but yolo
edit fuck this is going to be even more expensive than i thought
