Interstellar is a horror movie (LTTP)

I'm depressed and fucking shook.

Interstellar absolutely nails the foreboding, terrifying, yet serene feel of space. Freezing death or worse is a scant few centimeters of plastic and aluminum away. And at its core, Interstellar is about a foray into the deep unknown. That's frightening in itself, where anything that goes wrong means either a slow death or a quick one.
Unfortunately there's a lot of dumb shit and dialogue in the movie that sort of takes away from the atmosphere, so I can't really say the movie as a whole works. But when it's on, and the music isn't drowning out all other sound, it's a capable space drama that actually somewhat attempts to run on hard science.

I just don't want any part of that shit---mad props to the eventual explorers who pursue the void but that shit gives me fucking chills man.
I think there was a missed opportunity. Movie should have completely focused on getting back before humanity died off and should have completely erased anything surrounding the gravity equation or Matt Damons treachery. It should have simply been about exploring these crazy fucked up worlds, finding that the original explorers were pretty much always dead but very little clues as to why the world doesn't work.
I just wanted to see more crazy high budget planets.

Totally agree. That first planet
geez
I was weak watching the crew go through their messages when they got back.

The first planet with the 100,000 foot high tsunamis looked like something straight out of my nightmares.
The movie definitely brought out all kinds of feelz I didn't expect, but at least the ending still felt like a feel-good way to wrap everything up.

By Dipro Go To Postit's also quite a bad movie.it turned into a bad movie for me the moment i started to think on things seriously
the docking sequence was fucking masterwork though. amazing scene
i agree, they should've explored more crazy concept planets like the tsunami planet.
the third act was a doozy but boy did it fail in execution.
I would've really preferred if Dr. Mann actually died instead and they following plan A through.
Then Dr. Brand goes on to her BF's planet and Coop goes back to his grown kids.
Then by some sheer luck, one of the forerunner scientists manages to go inside the blackhole and it was one of them that was sending the morse code to Murph and not her pops.
I dunno, the whole matt damon portion of the movie just wreaks of a plugin by a producer wanting another A-list celeb to attract more moviegoers.

but yeah, I can appreciate what Nolan was trying to do with all the Matt Damon stuff but would've loved to see more crazy planets instead.
For a movie that falls victim to all three of Clarke's laws as bad as Interstellar does
It surprisingly gets a good amount of the science right. At least in the first half or 2/3rds of it.
I enjoyed it on that level. Lost me at HUMANS CAN DO ANYTHING THERE IS NO GOD OUT THERE TO RELY ON ONLY US

Matt Damon wasn't even billed tho. Can't see that being the reason you don't plug him and not tell people.
Matt Damon playing a douche was awesome to me
I like douche damon too. I just don't think the execution on that arc was up to par with anything else in the movie. His wake-up scene and death were ace though.

seemed perfect human nature to me... the arc of him getting a bum planet but not wanting to die
Saw it for the first time last night. It was..... an experience. Some of the scenes were damn phenomenal. That docking, the first planet, the flight into the blackhole. The whole space footage was just breathtaking. But the love thing..... was meh. I'm a sucker for heartwarming death scenes but that scene with Old Murph was just eh. Brand scene was also understandable. I didn't feel it was his best movie. Still give that to Memento.

Yeah i don't really get the problems with Damon's character
Like the first thing I thought off when they explained the plan was someone fudging the results to not die an agonizingly slow and lonely death
Shocking to think they didn't consider the fact that dudes would say "fuck this" and send a phone home sequence.
One thing that made just about no sense to me was the navigation of the wormhole itself--like, the idea of it is sound, but actually utilizing it to get exactly where you want to go seemed like straight up nonsense.

I remember reading that they originally had multiple wormholes and multiple blackholes. But reduced the number of both to one of each to not confuse the audience.
I would have preferred they dropped the communicating back with his daughter across space/time to the initial being lied to concept while wholesale losing humanity on Earth and voyaging/seeding humans into other areas of space. It would have executed perfectly on the "for the greater good" concept the movie had going around his family, personal choices, politics and checking the viable planets premise. Opportunity blown IMO. Great cinematography but a very lackluster second half to the movie.
Other than the "love transcends dimensions" theme and the ending I thought it was a superb movie. I think I would have preferred it if Cooper had died at the end.
I really liked the Matt Damon arc as well, it set up some amazing scenes like his death and Coopers attempts to re-dock with the spinning station.
