Reviews for Horizon seem pretty good overall. A lot of them agree that the voice acting and characterization is quality. Excessive hand holding is an issue apparently.

The example of good voice acting they give 4 min in 💀
"One profound cutscene after the other"
Horizon reviews make is seem more of the same. I liked the first one outside of the annoying human encounters I’ll probably try it at some point but with elden ring next week and GT7 the week after it will probably have to wait.
By jjasper Go To PostHorizon reviews make is seem more of the same.Yeah. The Eurogamer review specifically talks about this and that’s basically what I thought on the run up to release. Looks great if you enjoyed the first one but I didn’t, had no interest in this one, so it being more of the same essentially confirms everything I’ve thought about this game.
By s y Go To PostHoly shit Friday can't come soon enoughMelee at the very least looks light years better. I’ve been in the mood for a graphical showpiece to sink my teeth into and this will do nicely. Also a nice holdover until Elden Ring.
I’ve tried to start Horizon a few times but never got longer than maybe 2 hours into it, I just find it boring lol
Perhaps I just find Aloy a really milquetoast character to play as, she’s not really that interesting imo

Can't believe you'd say this about one of gaming's few Native American protagonists.

The first few hours aren't the greatest intro though

She's there as a surrogate to experience the world, it's why she was an outcast that had never left the scared valleys in the first.
The new world, robo dinosaurs and tribes are the the real interest points.

Damn, the difference between 30fps and 60fps modes in Horizon is defo putting it into the "wait" pile for me. Maybe even wait for the PC version.
4k mode looks absolutely incredible but I have really become one of those bois who just finds 30fps too uckers. Too uckers.

Horizon playing similar to the first but with improvements is rad. The first game was rad. I’ll prolly play it before eldin ring.
By LeonidDikapriovLung Go To PostThat performance mode is one blurry boi.
I can't quite work whether it's purely specific to the AA implementation.
1st phase of this ice woman is the most annoying shit ever

yeah sifu, the ninja woman.
I can barely keep up with her attacks when she's doing the dance moves. I dodge up and it's down. I dodge down and it's up. plus she just does whatever the fuck she wants to your life bar if she gets into her long attack. the 2nd phase is just easy as fuck, her final attack up close is a very telegraphed flying kick, easy to dodge. her ranged attacks are easy too, just grab the kunai when she throws them, throw them back and dodge when she does her version of stinger.
just trying to get to the next level at an acceptable age.

For the first phase, I don't risk dodging anything but her most obvious attack where she jumps. I parry/block the rest.
she easily breaks my guard with blocking tho.
do I really need to start the squats again and max out the stats?

go in with a weapon, or better yet, go for a longer route to upgrade it.
she has two combos and one punish combo. Look at her arms, if she starts from her back then it's down up up down up, you absolutely have to evade the last sweep to bait her follow up attack (leaps at you) so you can punish. Then chase after her for a couple of more swings
second combo is up down up down. Her punish, for the horizontal you evade down (twice?) and left or right for vertical.
again, go in with a weapon it absolutely demolishes her structure in no time.
you can cheese it by dodging everything with R2 then getting really close to bait her leap, but that's not very Kung Fu.
aight
fuck
1st and 2nd bosses didn't give me none of this trouble. could do them easy without dying after 3 or 4 times.

She’s the typical kind hearted, over confident outcast you see in shonnen. Aside from aesthetic and acting preferences they could’ve tipped the scales more towards a trickster type or the anti hero type, but it’s a tricky balance.

Someone who we were already familiar with, that's why nu Kratos worked so damned well.
To do what you're suggesting and I'm not disagreeing with this, the tone of the game would be so different. And honestly, coming from the grunts in killzone, Aloy is a decent first attempt at a sympathetic and likeable - if a bit of a Mary-sue main character.
Definitely something to build on.
Heck, even ND needed a rougeish, mix of indiana Jones and Nathan Fillion character to find their feet with character stuff.
