They've upgraded it pretty heavily along with RT and it does look better than the original. However, the code is (very loosely) based on the old console versions rather than the OG PC version so it comes with a couple of downsides (like vegetation animation / physics issues). It's also still heavily CPU reliant.

Crytek was on crack when they made that game.

It’s probably because the console version of Crysis was already on a newer version of their game engine than the original PC release.

They spent a lot of effort trying to get the console game engine (which I think at that time was CryEngine 3) multi-threaded so that it could run on consoles (PS360 era).
So the CryEngine 1 engine built for Crysis 1 on PC was outdated in a number of ways by that point, but was also still capable of doing stuff that consoles couldn't, so it ended up being a trade off.

it's a waste of early XP, it's better to unlock more moves first.

so anyway, ignore the finisher twice and you'll get a prompt to Spare the boss by pressing left on the d-pad.
