If I can’t parachute out of it and watch it crash into a busy street then what’s the pointI mean it's up to you to make it as involved as you like and there's plenty of different modes for all levels of interactivity. Managing to takeoff, cruise, and land an Airbus A380 in all manual is an exhilarating and nerve wracking experience.
Even beyond that I think it's incredibly well made graphically like you said... nothing really else like it out there on the market. Where else can I fly by Epstein's island?

alright i wanted to wait until I played it to come back to this. got ~15 hrs in Friday and Saturday on it. it's high effort in a lot of ways but some really basic low effort, "why???" type of things.
+ catching the pokes is an absolute blast. it is a great thrill to stalk tf out of a juiced up Alpha Pokemon (basically just bigger/stronger versions of the Pokemon), avoid the other Pokemon in the area, avoid having to engage the Alpha Pokemon, and finally catch it
+ art style/direction
+ speed of battles and that they are seamless transitions in/out of them.
+ the fact you can swap out moves at will. i always thought it was stupid that you could only have 4 moves and if you replaced it, it was gone aside from the Move Tutor.
- graphics of course. it looks good in handheld mode but a 65" TV got this game naked in the town square for everyone to see.
- not enough trainer battles and trainers dont have enough Pokemon
- they screwed up the battle system for no reason other than to just be different. that's the one part they didnt need to fix. it's like the FFX ATB. they even copy the order display...except it lies to you all the time. this Strong/Speed attack option and the customizable stat boost replacing EVs/IVs are just not necessary. I still find it to be about as easy as ever but I see a lot of folks complaining that it's hard and I'm pretty sure they're just idiots because Pokemon isnt difficult.
- the damn satchel. you can only carry like 15 unique item slots in the beginning (unlimited quantities in each slot though lol) and there's like 18 million items in this game. to get more slots it starts out at like 1000 P-bucks or whatever they call it in the world. add another 1000 for each additional slot so you spend most of your money on buying more bag room
+/- you kind of have to make your own fun w/ this. I saw a lot of complaints that there isn't much to do and I don't think that's really fair. There isnt much that the game forces you do to. If you just run the main campaign, I can see how you'd think there isnt much to do. I don't expect most folks to be fine w/ sinking an hour just to get a specific Pokemon like Ursaluna like I did. Or just making a bunch of Feather Balls to see how far away you can catch something while its flying
i have some other things i'd give a (-) to but those are more nitpicks than actual game problems.
it's probably a 5/10 objectively, but the good stuff is so good I have to bump it up to 8/10. for Game Freak this has to be the way forward for mainline games. just delete Sword/Shield off the master computer and pretend like it never happened. take this, add 8 Gyms/E4, and go back to how the old battle system worked.

I just can't do it. I don't think there's any energy, passion, or rapport with the vast majority of the staff. I saw someone in the Resetera thread say that it was a personality site with no personality. I think that's pretty apt.
It coming at the end of January of the following year is the cherry on the cake.

Genuinely don't understand why anyone would carry on paying for it now, it's like people think that they owe Jeff and the Nextlander guys a living as a reward for things that they already paid for a number of years ago. It's closer to voluntary royalties than a subscription. Their output post-covid has been shocking.
It's been a bit of a shame to lose access to the old Premium stuff, but if I cared that much I'd have downloaded it I guess.

Yeah even on resetera which at least likes to pretend to not be creepy as fuck, it's completely normal for the GB thread to descend into speculating about their families and homes, especially Jeff.
At some point we all just have to accept that they're a bunch of guys who had a great run, a tragedy, a recovery and then a terminal decline caused by shit hires and loss of enthusiasm, hastened by covid. It was a hell of a run but it's Weekend at Bernie's vibes now.
Still a bit disappointed that Videogamer disintegrated when it was still in it's prime, and nobody involved has done anything of interest to me since. It's still one of my favourite podcasts but they never put out anything worth watching, and I have no idea how it's still around at all when their videos get viewerships in the low hundreds.
The amount of reading in Disco Elysium is making it daunting for me to go back to it after not playing for a week or so, even though I was really enjoying it. Game could really have done with a puzzle or two imo.

There's no way I'm completely avoiding spoilers for Elden Ring bosses until March 10th is there? Even when people are being careful and you don't get directly spoiled, you get a sense of boss/level difficulty and mechanics through the zeitgeist in From games.

Glad not all gaming journalists are in it, just to score a job in what they are covering.
But giantbomb lost it a long time ago, and somehow managed to keep getting worse. Ben, Jan and Abby genuinely some of the least interesting people to listen to. Haven't listened to the new ones much, but Danny odwyer is a massive bellend, grubb is oof, and that silent hill girl was always terrible. Bakalar can be fun, but doubt that room leaves him with much to work with.
That something like fire escape cast is so much better, and just a spare time thing for Mary, Dan and Mike says it all.
