Got Game of Thrones S3 on Blu-ray earlier this week. Working through that. On episode 3 of House of Cards S1. Gonna have to catch up with True Detective. Nothing but praise everywhere you look.
Another one here for True Detective. Show's quality is arguably better than BB, unfortunately it's not a fair comparison with it being an anthology series.
Im on that Netflix kick. Been watching through the whole season of Chuck and then im headed on to House of Cards since so many of you cats have been recommending it.
TV is about to start getting good, Vikings comes back next week then Game of Throne starts in like a month.
Do I need to start watching True Detective is there any show it can be compared to?

Just saw last night's True Detective. So good.Marty is basically human garbage, yet I can't look away.

I compare it to:
An insanely dark version of Sherlock
Acting on Par or Better than Breaking Bad
Cinematography arguably better than most movies
It really helps that it's only a one season story. The quality is amazing every episode.
McConaughey's really incredible in that show.

Really enjoying True Detective.
Well, I say 'enjoying', but the damn show gives me a mix of tension and dread every episode.
I think its first episode was probably one of the best first episodes I've ever seen of a show. I was completely hooked.

Gravity is raking up the awards.Same here. And its because I had a friend that saw it and summed it up as "Leandra Bullock getting hit over the head with shit and an entire planet tuning her out". I'll get around to it - but I need to stop laughing first.
i still haven't seen it yet, smh.
Gravity in Imax 3d was amazing. First time I felt it legitimately added to the experience. Seeing it at home will probably lessen the movie.
did y'all catch angelina jolie?
she looked like a plastic wreck with all them botex.
what a fucking shame.

Yeah, Gravity was... good but not great. I wouldn't re-watch it.
Her was really great though, very well executed.
And I didn't really rate 12 years either. Good movie for sure. But it felt... unfinished.

I noticed her boobs were back.

She had breast cancer iirc.
I think they said she had a 70% chance of getting it so she removed them before she actually got itdid y'all catch angelina jolie?

There's no comparison. Especially because of the respective lengths of the shows--Cranston has a chance to stretch his legs and really explore every aspect of Walter White, while McConaughey's Cohle is stuck in eternal "life is a meaningless abyss" mode (partly because of the length of the show, and partly because Cohle is a one-note character).Public Service Announcement:I'm on season four of Breaking Bad now and I think I'd agree that Cranston is better.

Both performances are great, but I definitely think the hyperbole has gotten out of control for True Detective. It's an extremely well-written, well-made, well-acted show. But comparing it to Breaking Bad or The Sopranos or Deadwood is a disservice to TD.
It might get to that level someday, but let's hold our horses before we declare it to be the best show ever.
True Detective is great, but the range Cranston went through as Walter evolved is unparalleled. He played a character who changed drastically through-out the series and nailed each and every phase of it.

I... I... I don't even...
I'm not even gonna respond to that post. Life's too short to try and reason with crazy people.
a lot of the final bb season is a bit subpar tho. esp if 'par' is what the show was beforehand, aka glorious season 3 and 4 bb.
Just saw on my fb feed that 24 starts tonight.Fuck yeah it does! Jack is back!
Definitely gonna ride this train.
opening episode was pretty good.Yeah, Chloe was a bit weird. I was like, why is her hair black and why is she tatted up. Is that what happens when Jack leaves.
gonna take a while to get used to goth chloe though.
In any case, it's 24. It looks like it, it definitely feels like it. I liked it a lot. I wonder who the mole will be.
I'm not out on the new 24, but I'm not all in either. I'm still I am still in limbo with it.
Game of Thrones spoiled me. I expect everything to be at its level (aka The Wire/Breaking Bad etc... level).

Anyone else watching Fargo? Show is pretty good.
I've also been slowly catching up on this season of The Americans. Last episode I watched featured a lot of Kerri Russell's naked ass.

A comment from the AV Club that perfectly sums up my reaction to 24:
"YOU'RE ABOUT TO GET ATTACKED BY A DRONE, MOVE NOW!"
...
"Why? Who is this?"
"Say what now?"
"A drone!"
"Who's a clone?"
"You're about to be bombed!"
"What did you say about my mom?!"
"Sir, take cover!"
"No, I've never met Ed Lover."
Classic 24 military personnel.

Oh, everybody besides Bauer, Chloe, and that blonde from Chuck that definitely ends up helping Jack is comically inept. I think it's part of 24's charm. I was wondering why Benjamin Bratt would sign up to be the useless CIA head.

I enjoyed the first two episodes, but coming off of True Detective, this definitely feels like a guilty pleasure.
