By Koko Go To PostGlad to see GRRM is involved in a significant manner. Wouldn't want to him to, well, you know.
By Zabojnik Go To PostGlad to see GRRM is involved in a significant manner. Wouldn't want to him to, well, you know. It's based on two books, first one is out and the other one is behind Winds of Winter Zabo.
Honestly, I don't think he's gonna be involved that much unless being a consultant on certain elements again.
The book is pretty straightforward.
There are three points where I'm curious how they're gonna handle it.
First one is the budget. While there aren't that many important characters that will stay from the beginning to the end, there is one major factor.
Dragons are pretty much around all the time. They're important, they're part of the daily life and will travel along.
Considering they already struggled with 3 dragons that hardly had screentime, I wonder how they're gonna do it here.
Second point is the actors. The problem with recurring characters that only show up every episode, but at least once a season is something they'll have to keep in mind when casting.
The mountain was a bad choice with the initial casting, but there are so many characters in Fire and Blood that pop up every once in a while is gonna be a problem.
Third and the most important point is the focus.
While the focus on GoT was on the characters, the threat of the white walkers, politics in a certain period of time, the time frame of Fire and Blood is entirely different. Stories of certain characters are really interesting, but it's not about specific characters, it's about a dynasty being build over areas that were seperate kingdoms. How a successor of your own family isn't necessarily the best choice in a dynasty and how exactly that will lead to problems. Everything about it in a long period with different generations of Targaryens handling it, sometimes incredible well and sometimes incredible bad.
If they focus too much on individual characters instead of having the bigger picture in mind, it's gonna end up bad.
However, I still think this is the safer route than the long dark pilot that they filmed.
Here they have plenty of source material and it's not that far off the original story.
So, I've been catching up to the Arrowverse as I want to be up to speed when the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover airs.
Season 4 of Supergirl added a character who is transgender and I was pleasantly surprised that the actress is actually transgender.

HBO Max is also going to be a free upgrade for people who already subscribe to HBO Now, but there’s a bit of a caveat: it’s only free for people who are billed directly through HBO, according to AT&T. That means the offer is only eligible for customers who subscribe through hbonow.com and are billed by HBO. Customers who subscribe to HBO Now via other services, like Amazon Prime or Apple, are not eligible for the free offering.Annoying but okay. I guess I'll cancel my Amazon subscription and switch.
Cut the cable cord for a smaller bill only to pay several different streaming services at once. The more things change the more they stay the same.

I watched the first ep of His Dark Materials. It was incredible. I already know that I'm going to cry like a baby at the end of the third series, just as I did when I read the third book when I was 14.
Huge spoilers
"I will love you for ever, whatever happens. Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead I'll drift about for ever, all my atoms, till I find you again...
I'll be looking for you, Will, every moment, every single moment. And when we do find each other again we'll cling together so tight that nothing and no one'll ever tear us apart. Every atom of me and every atom of you... We'll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pine trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams... And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won't just be able to take one, they'll have to take two, one of you and one of me, we'll be joined so tight..." They lay side by side, hand in hand, looking at the sky.

By RATHasReturned Go To PostPerfect TV show.
So glad I just finished reading the comic.
By Laboured Go To PostI am so very impressed by Watchmen. I will say that knowing the comic in detail really helps.Weren't you interested in His Dark Materials? First episode is up.
By Pennywise Go To PostWeren't you interested in His Dark Materials? First episode is up.Never read the books. It is basically Harry Potter for the thinking child and if so how come Cleff likes it?

His Dark Materials looks legitimately stupid
watched one episode of Watchmen and fucking loved it. I'm gonna assume it's closer to the comics than the movie as they felt a bit different

By J Ciaran Go To PostHis Dark Materials looks legitimately stupidI don't think it's based on any actual Watchmen comics, unlike the movie, which is basically a chapter per chapter recreation of the original, to a fault.

By Laboured Go To PostI am so very impressed by Watchmen. I will say that knowing the comic in detail really helps. It seemed like a very stupid idea to make a series that is essentially a sequel to the comic, but fucking hell.

My gf enjoyed the books and hated the movie. She was looking forward to the series.
I rather stick to Mr.Robot.
By Not Go To PostI'm not giving Disney one cent
Its amazing how much cheaper a monthly fee for me would be when you consider the amount of Disney content my kids want and will consume. Disney artificially controls demand for their movies by only keeping certain ones available at any given moment. When Cinderella finally releases it will release at 19.99 like it's not from the 50's and has been out for over a half a century. I buy my kids (4) Disney movies in one year and I've already spent an entire years of Disney +.

It was obvious from the start that this is where the cord cutters were taking us. Watch sports and cutting the cord is currently basically the same price as a cable subscription but with a non consolidated bill.
Trying to watch sports is just fucky. Plus they wont let you a la carte that shit. You gotta have all the sports. Fuck you.
His Dark Materials starts off as a light-hearted kids book for about 20 pages. Then it becomes a kidnap mystery. And then turns about 10000 shades darker into a meditation on existence itself and the cruelty of religious organisations. And it's still really a YA series.
It ruined me when I read at at 14 years old.

By J Ciaran Go To Postthey turn into animals lolI don't think they do. They have animal companions though. Those can change shape though. At the end of the day it's a series for teens. A very well written and surprisingly dark series. But it's still for kids. Which is what I was when I read them.

Jean Smart just made Watchmen three times better

I still want a big budget Animorphs series.
If you can get over only oblique references to death and fire being treated like a room temperature solid blunt object yes it's great

It's been the best show for the past 2 years, but I can see why people give up after the first episodes or just didn't bother because of the premise of the show.

Lets see.... Mr Robot Season 3 air on 2017, off top of my head shows like The Leftovers, The Americans, The Handmaid's Tale, The Deuce, Better Call Saul, Big Little Lies had better seasons.

By /sy Go To Postso you just hateNot at all, S1 is as good as it gets for first seasons and S4 has started really strong...artmr robot huh
But it doesn't change the fact about how mediocre season 2 was, and season 3 doing just enough to salvage the show.
