Watching the DS gameplay and fuck me they've never even spent 2 seconds thinking about good UI design. This wouldn't be so bad if they didn't use a lot of menus but...
Tell you what if they actually inserted some decent questing and dialogue trees into this you'd have a way fucking better Fallout game than you have now.
It's really sad you can't do anything even remotelly intellectual nowadays without having all the anti-intellectual types piling on it. It's even sadder that even simple works like Kojima's which are, at best, politics / philosophy / sci-fi 101 can trigger these visceral reactions. If we've come to a point where Nolan's movies are still considered too high brow for digestion, I shudder to imagine the reactions to a modern day Kubrick, Orson Welles or Kurosawa, let alone actual high brow literature (or, well, literature, period).

There will be actual millions of those kinds of posts upon DS's release. There's some good stuff in there but I really doubt it will be well tied together structurally.
I remember when Kojima first saw GTA4 and other open world games that started expanding on it and he very pointedly started talking about how he considered that the apple of his eye. He's not been able to shake it since but I get the feeling he doesn't really get open world games either.
(I fully admit that some would say the same about R* too)

Are we talking about that long jump thing? If so I'm willing to argue that is a game design issue. You can't make that jump look natural in these parameters where the character looks constantly laden with weight / gravity and then suddenly doesn't because the game designer says the character must be able to jump X distance with certain equipment regardless.
It's not just when jumping. Whenever he walks onto something in the water during that boss, it looks terrible.
There are even poop jokes in the intro. GOTY until Planet Zoo comes out with a higher level of poop content.
