By Daz Go To PostWhat's the concensus on Dishonored 2?
Pretty good after they fixed the terrible optimization
By FortuneFaded Go To PostUncharted 4 is the best Uncharted #youcanthandlethetruthInclined to agree, though I much preferred the shooting controls in 2
A good chunk of geek culture is made up of geeks who ally themselves with brands and megacorporations with the misguided notion that they're somehow "friends" of these brands. It's not like the corporations who make up the majority of published games are stepping up to quell this idea, either. It's why you've got mobs of people defending Disney after this recent "Disney vs. Sony over Spider-Man" nonsense. It's two megacorporations in a small rights dispute, but folks are vehemently defending the largest multimedia corporation in the world because of a need to belong to something.
This is, at its core, Doc's argument. Geeks seek validation in a world that is increasingly alienating them. I don't think he hits the right notes, though. Horizon: Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, and God of War are three different flavors of the same kind of open-world, narrative-driven, third person action-adventure game. One of them even has a sad dad! And while you'd be valid in arguing God of War is more of a Metroidvania than an open world game, it still pollutes the game world with meaningless collectibles and repetitious objectives (get this pigeon/axe this raven, climb this moving tower/static tower to reveal the map). At the same time, anyone can tell you these three games are very distinct in their own rights, for good and ill.
Getting back to my point at hand, I feel like the real culprit here is alienation as a result of capitalism. Capitalism stagnates innovation, and tries to find the thing that it can easily milk for money as efficiently as possible. Sony figured out they can get a lot more hardware into people's homes with narrative-driven, open world, third person action-adventure games, and so they did. And because they're marketed as being "important" games, and are almost always exclusive to Sony's systems, it empowers folks who bought a PS4; they feel they backed the right horse, since they get all the cool, "important" games.
In an age where capitalism stifles creativity, affordable housing, job availability, and empowers the rich and disempowers the poor, this kind of brand loyalty gives way to people forming genuine identity. It's why folks defended Disney against Sony, and why you regularly have mobs of people harassing indie developers for making their games exclusive to Epic Games Store: the idea of forming an identity out of your loyalty for a brand gives people some sense of validation, especially when that thing does well (even if they're spending money to see that thing do well).
That wall of text is all over the place.
Argument boils down to "failure of institutions leads children to search for the meaning of life in their favourite toy makers"

By Daz Go To PostUncharted 2He also wrote it alongside hennig. Just sounded like most people think druckmann just appeared out of nowhere for TLOU.
Game Director Bruce Straley
Creative Director Amy Hennig
Druckmann was just a designer.
You don't go from designer to co director of your next big IP without your work being super respected internally.
Sidenote.
Naughty dog developing uncharted 4 in 2 years after scrapping Hennig and Richmond's mess is crazy. Rip straley.

Y'all know Bruce and druckmann did uncharted 2, right?
By rvy Go To PostI'm sorry, I posted a tlou cover? No you posted legacy of Cain covers rvy.

I'm ready for the Full Druckmann. Also, Anthony Newman and Kurt Margenau did Lost Legacy which is the best Uncharted and they codirectors on TLOU2 and already added a Dodge mechanic.
I'm hype.

Oh I love Hennig for Uncharted 1 and 2, and the legacy of kain series.
Just that on Bold thinking they lost something when Hennig left, and then it's not entirely her fault that Uncharted 3 was shit.
Also we know her plans for Uncharted 4. It's doubling down on it being dark, which was what I disliked about Uncharted 3 in the first place.

By FortuneFaded Go To PostUncharted 4 is the best Uncharted #youcanthandlethetruthNah Lost Legacy is. All of the gameplay improvements with none of U4's bloat.
Yup, Lost Legacy is fantastic.
In fact, it leans more on the light-hearted Joie de vivre of the Hennig era.

I’ll hear no criticisms levied at Uncharted 2 in this thread. It was the best of three games and no I haven’t played 4 or LL, don’t @ me

Hate the open world elements. I fear TLOU2 might incorporate that in it's design and I just believe ND would be better off sticking to linear design.
Both UC3 and 4 are so so. But UC2 and Last Of Us legit great games, so naugthy dog are cool with me.
Agreed. Lets go back to gamergate discussion, or the David Jaffe levels of humor in the newest braindead looter shooter Borderlands 3.
By Laboured Go To PostA whole page and a half of earnest Naughty Dog discussion. And you fuckers bitch about Era.

That doesn't seem all that surprising, considering the amount of trash valve let's in these day. Not that long ago someone had even just uploaded battlefield 2 and sold it as his own lmao, a far cry from how hard it used to be to get into the store. It also just keeps getting worse. Luckily most of it is easily filtered out though, so don't care much about it.
Would be a lot more interesting to see the sales on steam, without the shovelware included.

Maybe but he hasn't even included the bottom 80% of games released on Steam in his analysis.
Ah I didn't realize. That will sort out most at least I guess. But go look at new releases on steam and shovelware or random shitty anime novels will outweigh normal games with a ratio far bigger than 1/5.
Was it known that the FIFA 20 demo was coming today? Of course they waited for PES 2020's release date.
By Laboured Go To PostWhew.
what's the causation here?
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postwhat's the causation here?
Primarily too many fucking games and many released for much too cheap.
