Read the reviews. It looks like if you like the Gears franchise, it very well could be your GOTY.
I'll wait to see if Greedfall is good before buying either one.

By Laboured Go To PostOh, well this is quite some context. Some of the replies are cancer
It certainly looks like a Bolder Gears but if you saw it on a screen randomly you could be forgiven for thinking it was an up-rezed version of previous games.
It just sounds really dull. I like cover shooters, but I've felt for a very long time that Gears is far from the pinnacle when it comes to TPS or cover shooter gameplay. Except I never get the impression that Gears or its fans thinks it needs to improve this aspect.
...and I think Halo has the exact same problem.
...and I think Halo has the exact same problem.
Halo still has goodwill, and carries far more reverence and more 90s in its colums than Gears.
Gears has image problem, it is The OG 'Dude-bro shooter'. Much like how God of War had the edgy for the sake of edgy image.

I really don't think this is an image thing. I think it's still a "this hasn't moved its formula forward / iterated much since I first played it 10+ years ago" issue.
the problem is gears diehards love the core gameplay too much, so there isn't really much room to experiment with it
coalition should just work on a different franchise

By rerixo Go To Postcoalition should just work on a different franchiseThey'll never make anything that's not Gears of War. Depending on how well Gears Tactics does, they might continue to expand it into new genres, though.

During those dinners he’d sometimes say something about an ex-girlfriend that caught my ear. He had nothing but very, very bad things to say about everyone he’d ever dated, going back years. All of them were horrible, just awful, they didn’t understand him.
A description that fits well for more than just him in this case.
Anyway not surprised he was a bit of a nut case, that probably couldnt even see himself that he was terrorizing other people. A sad case all around.

It seems that Overwatch for Switch will be announced tonight on the Nintendo Direct. Assassin's Creed 4 and Rogue ports are also rumored.
The problem I have when people talk about the formula not changing in Halo and Gears of War is that there is nothing better out there to indicate the extent to which they could improve it.
If you’re someone that’s not particularly invested in either of them then it’s understandable that you would prefer significant changes to the core gameplay across all modes. But it’s very difficult to do without risking the relationship with existing players, especially those that invest heavily in the multiplayer side. And neither developer can be expected make two different games. I think The Coalition have gone about it the right way (i.e focus on changing the format and level design of the campaign) and I expect 343 will do the same despite their past failures.
edit: I think that things like gamepass provide an opportunity to focus on different elements of the game at different times, i.e. move away from the standard single player + multiplayer package that we’re used to, which might help solve the issue I mentioned above.

Assassins Creed 4 huh
Wow. Incredible get in 2019.
By Laboured Go To PostSwitch keeps getting worse.i'm not sure why this is a thing. i don't think it's going to do well at all. but what do I know lol.
By Lupercal Go To PostNot a lot of mention of MP in those reviews though and that's really the only reason to play Gears.
Trust reviews brehs
Also I think Doom Eternal is going to be a good example of what I said above about how we feel when it comes to evolution vs. revolution.
DE looks (so far) like a great example of how you should be creatively iterating on core mechanics people already love.
By Kibner Go To PostI am so hype for the hookshot.

Having three realms in GOW you can't unlock is such a cock tease. I'm assuming that the sequel will use the same traveling mechanic and they put them there for consistency. As a completionist, I did all the Valkyries before the end of the game and then realized I was OP for the story line boss lol. Valkyrie queen was my challenge.
All in all I enjoyed the game and felt like the combat was a nice change of pace for GoW. I think they need to further flesh out the combat mechanics adding more enchantments, armor and making enemies more case by case specific. Something to make the player search for good builds beyond what they personally like. There was very little need to explore the runic attacks beyond just curiosity.
The axe was ace. Swapping between weapons was ace. While "boy" could be annoying at time I found I enjoyed the father son dynamic more than I thought I would. Exploring was fun. All in all excited to play the next. Felt like the story barely broke the norse mythology surface.

By Bungie Go To PostThe problem I have when people talk about the formula not changing in Halo and Gears of War is that there is nothing better out there to indicate the extent to which they could improve it.Halo already alienated a fuckton of their base by going the loadout and ordinance route. I'm told Halo 5 is better by going back to basics but the damage was done and I don't even have a xbone and I'm certainly not buying one for Halo like I might have done if it was Halo of old.
