By Smokey Go To PostHow'd you know? Did the fan make an audible noise indicating there was a problem?
Aye, like a clicking noise. Turns out ecig vapour clings to dust and does a fine job of clogging up a fan. Was very easy to access the fan by taking off the stand and clean, so no complaints from me.
Speaking of ease, moved my components into the NCase M1 this morning and it was a breeze. Still need to manage the cables, but I’m super happy with the build so far.
By Laboured Go To PostDon't think it's that expensive tbh. Considering what you can get for over £2k for a 27" panel. That's how they get you.
for long rendering durations (24hrs or more)
is water cooling better than air?
because Ive read somewhere that water cooling isnt as effective in long stress test because something about how water tends to retain heat longer.
in other words, that Kraken x62 is sexy af.

Swapped back to the redux fans for the D9L cooler since they're practically inaudible. The new NF-A12 fans under the Accelero III are plugged into the 2080Ti, got them set to go no higher than 1500PRM, but they're incredible. Past 1500RPM they're far too loud for my taste but at 1500RPM or less they're perfect. They're also in there as exhaust fans, pulling all the heat of the 2080Ti right out the case like a blower card would just far more efficient and about 20dB quieter.
Still waiting on my custom backplate, but this is my perfect set up. Next stop is custom cables and some fancy heatspreaders for my RAM.

i have the kraken x62 sitting here on the floor m8 :p
Water cooling takes longer to reach steady state than your standard HSF, but won't be any less effective at dissipating heat as long as the radiator is large enough (to over-simplify it).
Now, no matter what, an AIO will not be as reliable as an air cooler. Just up to you if you want to take that very small but real "risk".

can you use it on am4 with a converter?
im literally sitting on my tax return and cant or wont decide til the ryzen 3000 benchmarks come out.
9900k is calling me but that ryzen 3000 CES benchmark though.

Sounds like some broscience. Radiators take longer to heatsoak than heatsinks do, but both are adequate for 24/7 rendering. As for which is better, depends on the surface area of the radiator/heatsink. a 280mm AIO with decent fans is better than most large air coolers, but the same can't be said for a 240mm AIO which are often worse or barely on par with a NH-D15.
If the model number for your Kraken X42, X52, and X62 ends in -2 or higher, your Kraken retail package already contains the AM4 bracket needed for compatibility with AMD Ryzen CPUs.
can order one for free otherwise.
an AIO can sometimes give a bit better thermals than a noctua, but really not much. I honestly don't know if i have seen noise normalized tests between them though..
If you flat out want measurably better thermals than a Noctua d15, an open loop is the only way.

Im itching to build though, july can't come soon enough.
By Adam Go To PostI like my D15S, but feel like my 6700k going to 70-73 range is getting a lil toasty.Blame the toothpaste between the IHS and die, not the cooler.
Bout to pull the trigger on a new case and it will probably be between the Evolv X and the H700. Not the best cooling but they are 2 of the better looking out there to me, even though I'm not sure the X is better looking than my Evolv ATX. Also i have 5 3.5'' HDD's and things like the O11 Dynamic just won't hold them.
sign nevermind the H700 can only hold three 3.5'' drives

Yeah, nice cooling cases don't really make room for 3.5" drives anymore. You almost have to look for older cases before SSDs started to get used as main storage.

I really like the look of a lot of Thermaltakes cases . But I'm always hesitant for some reason. Maybe because they seem to be built for wc.
Also looking at the Matrix 2080ti the build and engineering on them thing is kind of crazy.

To be honest I'm surprised none of you have tried designing / making your own custom case.
Not that complicated an endeavour either.

I have tbh, just don't have the tools required to do a proper job nor the contacts to get Lian-Li on the case (pun half intended).
i've always wanted to mount a rig upside down on a table somehow.
enclose it with somekind of noise reduction foam.
I figure maybe that would reduce the amount of dust overtime.
I think i saw a video on linustechtip and they showed a similar concept.

After using it for a couple days, the Intel 660p is still a very fast drive, despite being a slow nvme. Can recommend.
After what we talked about Kibner, I now want additional m2 drives. I can get 2 more in that add-on card. I don't need them, I already have 3 SSDs but damn. Sometimes I sit and look at the rig and be like...how can we lvl up even further m8 🤔 That could do it lol

I think my Noctua coolers are the loudest part of my machine and they are running at like 30% speed right now and I want to make them even quieter. My end-game is a completely passively cooled case. It's not gonna happen, but that's what I want. lol

You can always get adapters like this and still get full speed. Iirc, nvme just uses pcie x4 lanes anyway, so there should be no performance difference.

By Zabojnik Go To PostSounds like something Cavalo would say.I mean it was always pretty cool and scary what some people used for custom builds, but there's just so much selection these days that nearly delievers everything you need.
Was different 10-20 years ago. Still remember those first custom builds I saw during my LAN days at the end of the 90s, when people made a case from a beer crate and shit like that.
By Kibner Go To Posthmmm… i wonder if this may be good enough: https://www.monsterlabo.comSeen a bit of that case in my SFF circles, seems incredibly niche but with some future revisions I think it'll be a worthwhile case for people that want a silent build.

RTX 2080 & more should be used carefully
--> At full load on Furmark, RTX 2080 power consumption reach 230W.
--> This power is higher than what can be transfered by the heatpipe.
--> Heatsink performance is then strongly decreased when GPU power is over 190W.
🤔

Most people going for a fully passive build likely understand that performance concessions need to be made. Niche af.
By HottestVapes Go To PostSeen a bit of that case in my SFF circles, seems incredibly niche but with some future revisions I think it'll be a worthwhile case for people that want a silent build.Yeah, it's worth keeping an eye on, I think. With that single 140mm fan, it should be able to adequately cool my 2700x and 1070. But I think I'm going to wait till a revision comes out that can handle those kinds of parts without a fan. May not happen without a much larger unit or some breakthrough design or tech, though.
