By cashman Go To PostAnybody watch that breaking bad movie yet?First two acts are good, last act is baaad.
Overall not nearly good enough to warrant it's existence.
Joker already at 543M$ worldwide. By tomorrow, it will have done 10x it's budget.
700M$ is pretty much locked at this rate, could very well end at 900M+$.
Imagine a Joker solo movie beating Batman Vs Superman at the box office, no one would think that was possible a few weeks ago.

I would have, though I bow to your knowledge of box office records and trends.
Nobody cares about Superman outside the US, and it's a bad film even inside of the context of superhero films. Even if it's an out of the ordinary take on the genre and character, the Joker is a huge cultural figure.

A lot of people care about Superman. Come on Hitch, he's one of the most popular superheroes in the world.
The reason why Joker beats BvS is because one is rather good, the other is pretty shit.

lol
Both Man Of Steel and B vs S did more overseas than in the USA so there's clearly an interest in Super Man outside the US.
Only 5 movies achieved that, two were made by Cameron, one was riding on nostalgia and was the best Star Wars movie since the original trilogy and the other two were the culmination of a 20 movie storyline that has gathered a fanatic fan base only comparable to Star Wars.
By Apollo Go To PostA great Batman in this current box office climate is going to break $2b easilyNah, it would have to be something extraordinary or directed by James Cameron.

Not a chance
By Hitch Go To PostWell they shouldn't 😒Unless they are keeping his appearance well hidden, no.
Is Leto's Joker gonna be in the Suicide Squad sequel?
By Kidjr Go To PostNot a chanceOf course there is. It's Batman.
Advance ticket sales for BvS outpaced Avengers. Then this happened;
In its second weekend, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice experienced a "historic" box-office drop, with an 81.2% decline on Friday that was "one of the biggest Friday-to-Friday drops any blockbuster has ever seen", and an overall 68.4% drop for the weekend despite not "facing any big competition at the box office", making it the second largest decline for a marquee superhero title, behind only 2003's Hulk.
The superhero franchise that broke the $1bil barrier just a decade ago before overseas was as big as it is now wouldn't have a chance at $2bil? Okay
For comparison:
TDK domestic: $530mil
TDK overseas: $470mil
Endgame domestic: $850mil
Endgame overseas: $1.9bil
Aquaman did $800mil overseas

People underestimating how popular Batman is 😂😂😂😂
And how much the box office has grown since 2012

DC's mismanagement of its franchises on the silverscreen was a such a disaster that you can say that they did a Manchester United.
Of course it has a chance but it has to be something truly great.
The next Batman will have to handle the stink of two less than good movies

By reilo Go To PostI think the new Joker is disproving that because audiences have a short memory. Nobody is avoiding it because of Leto's joker and that was just two years ago.I think Joker is a different thing because it is trying to sell itself as being not a comic book movie and it's attracting an audience that normally doesn't care much about comic book movies.
By LFMartins86 Go To PostI think Joker is a different thing because it is trying to sell itself as being not a comic book movie and it's attracting an audience that normally doesn't care much about comic book movies.I doubt that's what is pushing the film to 900m.
That's like saying that Aquaman got 800m for attracting an audience that wants to fuck fish
By reilo Go To PostYou could make that argument about TDKIndeed I could and I would love to see Matt Reeves do a TDK like Batman.
By Flutter Go To PostI doubt that's what is pushing the film to 900m.Controversy and Phoenix's performance are pushing it, the fact that it has an excellent word of mouth it's helping keep it's legs.
That's like saying that Aquaman got 800m for attracting an audience that wants to fuck fish
And Aquaman did 1.150B$.
By Flutter Go To PostThat's a lot of people who wants to fuck fishThis should have been on the soundtrack.
And one shouldn't doubt James Wan's ability to make money.
He created two of the biggest horror franchises ever (Conjuring - 1.8B$, Saw - 980M$).
Edit : just to show how impressive that Conjuring number is, the total budget of all 6 Conjuring universe movies is about the same as the budget of the first Ant Man, 130M$.
There's is no way in HELL a stand alone rebooted batman movie makes 2 Billion. I know box office is growing, I agree but 2 billion? Nah it's just not happening, not without some stupid build up, an exceptionally clear run in terms of other films, surpassing dark knight critically and... Infact there are no realistic circumstances where the next batman does 2 billion. LF said it best there are 5 movies in the history of movies to break that mark (maybe gone with the wind as well if you wanna adjust for inflation). Just doesn't have the strength for 2 billion and that's not a slight on batman (because he's still ofc hugely popular) but there are so many other factors to take into consideration imo.
TDK made 1.3b ten years ago. I could see a new Batman - especially one well received, especially if it starred Phoenix - making close to 2b.
By n8 dogg Go To PostTDK made 1.3b ten years ago. I could see a new Batman - especially one well received, especially if it starred Phoenix - making close to 2b.It didn't, Rises did 1.08, TDK did 1.005.
It would depend heavily on China, I have no idea about the popularity of Batman in China, I know that BvS didn't even reach 100M$ there and Joker has yet to receive authorization to be shown there.
By cashman Go To PostAnybody watch that breaking bad movie yet? It's great. Gilligan is a master of finding compelling elements within ordinary settings, almost-- but not quite-- to the point of making the real world seem fantastical.
Good to have a follow up with all the loose BB threads too.
A couple of words on Marty Scorsese movies #3-5:
Mean Streets
So overwhelmed with raw energy it almost comes across as a pastiche of Scorsese; incendiary performance by De Niro, dynamite soundtrack and a real sense of giddiness, a director being let off the leash and doing what he wanted to do. There’s some virtuoso camerawork and editing here, and while it can’t reach the sustained peaks of some of his other works - largely due to its aforementioned rawness, lacking in sheer technical proficiency - , it’s still a brilliantly vibrant movie.
Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
What a lovely little movie; and a real departure in style from the show-off filmmaking of WTKAMD and Mean Streets. Scorsese is all manner of restraint here, letting the fabulous Burstyn dictate where the movie goes. Very few better portraits of what it’s like to be a working mother, and very few more intensely irritating child actors than in this. Probably even more horrifying for Burstyn than the Exorcist.
Taxi Driver
Third watch of this, and only now noticed the ubiquity of Coca-Cola everywhere. This is an American horror story, and we’re reminded of it in every frame. Hypnotic, mind-melting cinematography and editing, with one of the very best scores of all time, an astoundingly nihilistic but fully realised script, an extraordinarily subtle and powerful lead performance, and a director who merges the arthouse sensibilities of his previous film with the grittiness and raw energy of the one that came before. What a superb movie this continues to be.
Ratings so far:
1. Taxi Driver 4.5
2. Alice 4
3. Mean Streets 4
4. Who’s That Knocking 3
5. Boxcar Bertha 1

By Freewheelin Go To PostJust watched Memories of Murder for the first time….fuck. Haunting film. They caught the killer a few weeks ago.
By LFMartins86 Go To PostThey caught the killer a few weeks ago.I know, the film has been on my watchlist for ages lol. I guess this recent news has finally pushed me to see it. Wasn't disappointed at all.
By LFMartins86 Go To PostHave you seen Bong Joon-ho's Mother? Is also quite good.Nope, also on my watchlist!

Dean you have many Korean films to get to, bro. The Handmaiden, A Bittersweet Life, Secret Sunshine, A Tale of Two Sisters, Mother, Joint Security Area, The Vengeance Trilogy, etc.
By /sy Go To PostKorean cinema almost as overrated as Korean Pop musicLol.
Rewatching Godfather II while I work, film is just a great watch at any point. But the book still surpasses it in every way imaginable and it always pisses me off how much of the book they miss out across the three films.

I Saw The Devil is trash.
