Football Manager 2019 Greatest Game Ever Made
- Page 1 of 1
Post good shit in this thread. I just finished my first season and guess what? That is some good shit.
Look at this fucking talented of young bois about to make their Serie A debut in a few months
Sensational. Juve was beaten in the cup, but went out to Milan on penalties, after Bayaoko equalized in the 94th fucking minute.
By inky Go To PostHow did you finish a season already?
A mixture of not having a life and there being holidays here this week
Playing as Leverkusen
Gegenpressing is good and all but Volland as a pressing forward isnt enough to score goals. Need to think about how to better use my wide players better becauae they are pretty ineffective.
Was leaking goals most of the time before figuring out pairing Tah or Dragovic with Sven Bender as a no nonsense centerback works really well.
The other problems are the lack of a good leftback option, and the intensity of gegenpressing making it incredibly common for my players to get injured.

I got it semi cheap from Voidu. Sega been hard on the ruski sites sadly.

I have also been doing a crazy pressure heavy tactic. Wonder how well it will work in Serie A now, with a bunch of youngsters. May Allah be with palermo.
I've been playing counter and I am getting destroyed. Doesn't help that my team only has 18 "senior" players, I disabled the first window and players seem extra touchy when shouting instructions or just interacting with them. I don't know if the shouts always worked that way and they just surfaced it by making "body language" more detailed, or they changed it up. Funny that as soon as I switched to 4-4-2 vertical tiki taka (which is a stupid name) I won 4 in a row even if my players are terribly suited for it and basically did no pre-season at all. Triple training sessions don't seem that heavy even with such a small, injury prone roster either.
Also, subs and adding columns to my tactical screen seem to be incredibly bugged. Sometimes the name of the subbed players doesn't change, so it kinda dupes them and shows them both playing and in the bench at once. Whenever I add columns or move shit around in the tactics view everything explodes and moves out of place. It's annoying.

Yeah I had that problem with double names as well. Pretty fucking annoying.
I'm playing some big dick high pressure football, and quite a few of the more established players have failed at it. But the youth are going all in on it, and with the huge squad Palermo has, it's easy to just cycle through them. I started a 16 and a 18 year old in defense against Inter and won 4-3. Chaos football at its best.
The only players I have bought are Robert Skov (right winger, copenhagen) and a competent danish defender for CB from a smaller club, as my main guy back there got injured.
The talent here is full cummies

You gotta really wonder what they are doing with them.

I don't see enough to make me upgrade from 2018 yet, and gone are the years when I could spend 500+ on a single save anyway.
There is a few bugs still especially with the UI that annoys me, but overall a damn solid improvement from 18 imo. But I understand not wanting the new edition every year.
Another thing that seems a bit crazy so far, is the difficulty. It feels extremely easy so far, like way too easy. I imagine they will adjust this quickly though.

It's easy if you play one of the possession or press based systems: both tiki taka variants, gegen or wing play. It's ridiculously hard to play one of the counter systems or even catenaccio or park the bus (I know you are not going to park the bus a whole season, but still). It frustrates me the game doesn't seem to take into account if your players fit the system or not. I've seen a few YT videos with the same team going a full simulated season with each system already, and the counter or defensive systems never actually get good at soaking up pressure, they just concede more and never score.
IRL Atleti play counter 4-4-2 even though they have enough quality to play possession or hard press. They also have a ridiculously tough defense: Oblak has more clean sheets than goals conceded in his time at the club. Yet none of this matters if you play a counter system with that personnel. They get eaten up. It's my biggest gripe with this edition. Last time I felt I could play defensive systems and be very successful was 15 or 16 I think.

Yeah I am playing with extremely hard pressure, and have managed to take Palermo all the way to the very top of Serie A, cunt hairs away from the first place, with just 3 bought players (and fairly ordinary players by Serie A standards). The opponent makes the weirdest mistakes in defense, and my players just gets the ball all the time.
How the hell do you play with hard pressure without racking up injuries.
Gave up a campaign just now because lost 6 key players for weeks.

I haven't really had all that many bad injuries. My right back is out for like 4 months which sucks, but that is about it. Nothing too bad.
Also helps that Palermo has like 30 players that can easily play for the first team. A lot of 2 or 2½ rated youngsters with lots of potential.

I''ve had 2 long term fractures but I've managed to reduce the injuries in the second half of the season with more rotations. It doesn't seem to matter I'm doing triple sessions most weeks now.
I also feel confident that the only shouts that do something are: "Get creative" "Show some passion" and "Demand More". Every other shout I try, the player's body language changes to "overwhelmed" or "nervous" regardless of the individual players mental attributes, the state of the game, or when I employ the shout (after scoring, conceding, etc.). It's pretty idiotic and there doesn't seem to be any logic behind the system at all.

By ATTICUS H Go To Postis it worth it so far? or should I wait till DecYes. Better scouting result mechanic, better ball physics, easier to set your strategies (although I havent tried defensive ones, and Inky is having trouble with them)
By rvy Go To PostCan anyone verify that this is indeed the greatest game ever?Yes.
It's an improvement, but about a $20-25 one if I had to quantify it. It solves some problems I had with 18, like back passes, # of offsides per game and tight marking. Pressing receiving particular attention means passing lanes are more properly covered now and playing with a high line without offside trap is no longer an issue as long as your players have the right roles. The improved match engine means games are better to watch if you do comprehensive or extended highlights in 3D like me, and goals curving into the net are more satisfying.
You can actually see an effect of training set pieces now, both defending and attacking (I don't think much has changed internally, but the game informs you better of its effects and you see it reflected in the briefs more often), but it also just sheds much more of a light on how shallow the system is. I need more options than "go back" and "man mark". Let me assign zones (not just small box pre-defined areas), and let me assign the type of man marking too then. Most of the time the game doesn't know what to do with mixed coverage, and while you expect your players will fail every now and then, a lot feels still predefined. For example, not putting your FBs on the posts during corners is 100% a death sentence that even shit teams will exploit because the match engine treats it like you are playing with 9 men or something, when it is actually very common in real football.
I felt 17 to 18 was a bigger leap, but 19's new tactical options feel significant enough to the core gameplay. That's the problem with these fucking yearly releases, minimal but needed improvements make it almost necessary to buy the new one because if you play it long enough you get sick of all the issues that are never fixed. I said I was gonna skip it and probably should have because no doubt FM20 will actually be the significant step forward from 18 I need, but the game has regional pricing and is cheap enough over here (~$30 I think?) already compared to yurop and murica, so it isn't the end of the world either.

Yeah, the main reason why I don't mind upgrading to a new version every year is because it's cheap.
A bit annoyed with the mentoring system though. Everything else is sweet.

I'm doing well with Bayer Leverkusen and I think I can win the CL this season and start to see if a place at United opens up....
and then I see the horrible hackjob Mou has done. Gonna just start as United because of how hodge podge everything is.
Lukaku is a winger-target man, there's Icardi in the center and the club is gunning hard for Kane.

By Perfect Blue Go To PostOrigi is also an amazing pressing forward.
Scored a few goals for me by just forcing mistakes off the defenders or keeper.
I’m training Werner to play as a complete forward. Already doing better than Morata, lol.
Also bought Cristian Pavón to play on the right. He had three assists in a 4-0 battering of Tottenham to send me top of the table. I’m ahead of Spurs on GD.
I’m playing a heavily modified vertical tiki-taka.

Took a few games with me to get into groove though, shit at first because he was having some time to get used to a vertical tiki taka.
By inky Go To PostFired for finishing 5th? I wish. Pepe got fired for finishing 3rd in mine.Unlike in recent FMs the United board is fairly lenient in the first season. I only needed to qualify for the CL and get into the quarter final of the CL to get my job safe.
Probably the same for Mou in the game. Did he get into the quarter finals at least?
It's fucking hard to play well as United though.
