Thread on era about pep’s barca vs zidane’s madrid.
Pep’s Barca completely changed the game and consistently proved they were the best in their own league. Zidane’s Madrid just have ultimate big-game experience. Obviously a really great side, but they won’t live forever in the memory beyond their achievements.

Aye.
Fair to Zidane though, he makes use of his side's strengths brilliantly. It sounds like just simple common sense but they have had world class players for more than a decade but never shown this much superiority in the CL.

Pretty much. None of the RM wins have captured the imagination as Barca or Bayern did.

Am gonna end up buying this Dark Souls remaster. Even if it's a filthy up-res. Gosh.
Also after a couple of days of thinking on it, I think Solo is my favourite of the new Star Wars films. It's not even great, the rest are just mediocre.

I have it second after Rogue One.
TLJ still the only one as good as ANH/ESB, go suck eggs and don’t @ me.
Seeing Solo tomorrow. So far I really like TFA, love TLJ, think Rogue One is mediocre as shit.
Also starting driving lessons tomorrow. Doing a 5 day intensive course. Save me allah

When he said the right side he meant the left side. If the left side is the right side then the right side to drive on must be the left.

You have rubbish taste in everything that is holy.
TLJ was turgid. I’m actually mad that you like it.
If I had proper sleep I'd totally @ n8 a full post about how shockingly boring and shit TLJ is. Doesn't sit anywhere close to ANH let alone ESB.
Overly long, with redundant characters and truncated plot lines, puts themes above logic and subversion for subversion sakes above story. Manages to bury 2 of its 3 charismatic leads, and reverts to dichotomy status quo instantly and predictably. You could tell the mov ie was wrong from the initial text crawl. I'm not even a Star Wars fan, and it kills any future interest or curiosity in the series. Just an awful slog.
Think most people who liked it are mistaking a necessary movie for a good one.

Characters grew and developed and reacted in believable, logical and the only possible ways towards one another for this series of films to become anything more than hollow trading in nostalgia.
It just completely got what Star Wars is about (or supposed to be about): its central message, that hope and love will dominate and triumph over hatred in the face of adversity, is cheesy and corny but is totally fucking Star Wars to a tee. I genuinely think anyone who doesn’t like The Last Jedi but does like Rogue One has no idea what Star Wars is and should be about. One takes brave decisions and pushes its characters - the single most important thing in fiction - to interesting new places and leaves so much room for exploration. The other has a plethora of personality-free charisma vacuums moving from ‘Star Wars-looking location’ to ‘Star Wars-looking location’ cashing in on nostalgia for the original trilogy. It does it even more so than The Force Awakens, which at least had a propulsive energy, fantastic casting and enjoyable characters. The first hour of Rogue One is a choppily edited, interminable slog, and the second is an excise in dropping all dramatic tension, stakes and actual emotional investment for the sake of fitting something into a cinematic universe because this is the way Marvel has dictated things work now.
The Last Jedi also contains the two best performances in the entire saga from Hamill and Driver, and has the best visuals.
What a fucking movie. It’s the best blockbuster since Fury Road. Probably the only great blockbuster since that. Can’t think of any that have come close.
Episodes 1, 2 and 3 > TFA and TLJ
Star Wars Clone Wars the animated series > Rogue one (this was fun)
ESB > ANH = RoTJ
I love everything Star Wars but the new trilogy has been so dull and boring, full of mediocre characters which feel like focus tested to be as generic as possible so as to reach the most broad audience. Disney is diluting the fuck out of Star Wars, not in terms of the quantity of films being produced but by the sheer lack of anything worth while. I can't even remember TFA, I thought I liked TLJ but the more I sit on it the more pointless that film becomes.
Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon Jinn, The Sith, politics, The Republic, the universe, the ambiance, the development of Vader, Darth Maul, clone wars, order 66... The original trilogy had everything I liked about Star Wars. They have their flaws but I can ignore them because they're what Star Wars is all about.
George Lucas was right all along.
That being said, Star Wars Clone Wars the animated series is GOAT Star Wars (especially the latter seasons).

Why the fuck do people think Qui Gon Jinn was a good character other than Liam Neeson played him?
Tell me one distinctive thing about Qui Gon that you learn in TPM. What defines him as a character? He has a beard?

This is even better than TLJ and legitimately a perfect movie.
I’m not even joking. It’s probably the best movie full stop since Fury Road.
Qui Gon Jinn died to a character who got sliced in half by Obi Wan, even though when he was on a higher ground.

Ok, TLJ nailed the theme of SW then. Just a shame it was not a very interesting story, unrealistic relationships, poorly written characters, and unbelievably poor deus ex moments.
Star Wars isn't just about a theme. it is also about a sense of adventure and a fun romp through the galaxy. Sadlythese new films are nothing like that.

... isn't that gundogan.
Only the first film was like anything you described. The second was Luke training with a shocking ending and the third was... not something I categorised as a fun romp.
Still good films, but far from a pulp space adventure.

Qui Gon discovered the Sith were back and knew that he had to break the rules of the Jedi so as to bring balance to the force. Before any of the Jedi council even listened Qui Gon was sure that Maul represented the return of the Sith. He was a respected Jedi master, a student of Count Dooku and a teacher to Obi-Won.
Qui Gon was an unconventional Jedi, he was willing to break rules to achieve what was needed at the time.
He was the one that thought the other Jedi's how to be one with the force, showing how to ghost appear and pass on his teachings.
Qui Gon discovering Anakin was also a key moment of the storyline, he knew the risks associated in teaching the ways of the Jedi to Anakin but took those risks anyways - other Jedi wouldn't have.
Qui Gon also has a lot of backstory explained in Star Wars Clone Wars the animated series, he's truly a great character IMO.

The story was far more interesting because it was about character - how does Rey react when her hero lets her down? How does Poe react when his overwhelming macho bravado lets him down? How does Kylo react in the face of embarrassment and failure time and time again?
So much more interesting than “here is a story you already know about, here are some empty facsimiles of characters to take you on that journey but none of them will develop or change over time because we just need them to get to a point where they hand over the Death Star plans”.
What deus ex moments are you talking about? I can’t think of ANYTHING in TLJ as egregious as Cassian turning up to shoot Krennic in Rogue One, and even then I wouldn’t criticise that. Convenience is the best friend of fiction, because all of it is engineered.

By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostDo you watch Rebels?Yeah Rebels was fun, especially the last season where it got into Jedi/sith myth and lore but it never touched the highs of Star Wars Clone Wars the animated series. I was so disappointed at the drop in quality from SW:CW to Rebels, never truly got into the new characters. It's bad that my favorite Rebels characters were Ahsoka, Obi-Won, Vader and Maul.
I love me some Rebels.
Ill always hold TLJ in a high regard. Rather than paint the picture of Jedis as flawless warriors it shows how the whole dark and light struggle is more hogwash than the truth.

The whole scene when the girl saved Finn was a truly poor deus ex moment. It made no sense how she could have actually saved him. It was just unrealistic.
