If Artera is gonna be manager that is truly a shocking decision.
I can’t remember too many times since the 90s(when player managers were still a thing) where a manager has fot his first job at a big team. Can only think of Seedorf getting the Milan job and that didn’t last long.
Being an assistant for a couple of years is good experience, but nothing actually neats hands on dealing with the pressures of the top job. Pep and Zidane both at least had actual experience of managing a side before taking over at Barca and Real respectively. Also both were a gamble at the time, but Pep had Tito, and Zidane was taking over mid-season with a group of players he knew well.
I look at Arteta and I just rhink why the fuck would anyone follow him. He has no experience, and he doesn’t have actual glory as an ex-player. The biggest games of his career have been FA cup finals. He has never even competed for a league title or played a major international tournament.
He might have fantastic ideas, but is he gonna have the know how to deal with the most demanding situations?
I am willing to give him a chance, but would rather not have to be in that situation.
I think the team as it is right now is good enough to get toup four next season and again fight for a EL trophy. However, with Arteta I feel the objectives would have to be to get at least a EL place and hope he develops well enough that in 2019-20 he can fight for top four.

You know he would come back, all you have to do is ask.
Side note: Watermelon and Pineapple are amazing after runs.

By FortuneFaded Go To PostPep managed the B team for a year, hardly counts as experience.
What do you think the B team is?
It is an actual team playing in the second division.
That is great experience.
I don’t know what more you can ask for from a first job.
Man i'm so happy that we don't have Wenger right now that even a man without any kind of experience is exciting me.
Of course Arteta wouldnt be not even close my choice for the job, but i wanted Arsene out for so long that im happy anyways.

By FortuneFaded Go To PostPep managed the B team for a year, hardly counts as experience.B teams in England aren't the same.
His Barca B were promoted to the 2nd division with him in charge.
I feel it will be realllllly difficult for Arteta unfortunately. Hope Arsenal lads are ready for anything lol.
I just love that the Kroenke's are using the McVay hire in Los Angeles as justification for giving a young manager with no experience the reigns at Arsenal. It's such a boardroom mentality. Football people have to be having a good laugh.
By Lunatic Go To PostIf Arteta becomes manager of fucking Arsenal FC with no experience I'm not watching this season.
I am willing to give him a chance, it would be a poor appointment, but I would be fully behind him. Just sadly means readjusting expectations. He would have to be truly awful not to get a chance for the second year.

Agreed with forums poster Danieli Shanksio
The thing with Pep is he acknowledged that he was saved many times by Xavi, Iniesta and most importantly Messi. All three world class players had their faith in him and helped him be one of the greatest managers. Same with Zidane, who was widely respected by the Real Madrid players.
Arteta needs that trust from his players, especially in his first year.

What a ridiculous squad list btw. Probably a good thing Alves is out too, you can't have Alves AND Marcelo play at the same time, it would be way too lopsided in attack, one flank needs to defend well and it sure as hell isn't going to be Marcelo.
Mancini is official.
Really happy with his appointment.
Won pretty much everywhere he has gone and has a great domestic cup record. Only slight knock on his career is his performance at continental cup level.

That is my buggest worry. He just doesn’t have the career that demands automatic respect. Zidane and Pep had won a lot as players, so when they speak you would listen.
The only positive is that many of these players know Arteta, so you hope he would command their respect that way.

Would you really respect a coworker who retired a few years ago and came back as your boss?

I think Pep had played with Xavi and Puyol. I get your point though.

By domino Go To Postsomehow i think Arteta will do well. Its possible
dont ask me why i think that
I tend to be optimistic toward signings that feel clever but I dunno about Arteta. If he is the new Arsenal manager I think he won’t be for very long. It’s a poison chalice, like the one Ferguson handed down at Utd. As much as everyone hated Van Gaal’s football, a manager of his type helps the transition, and Arteta is too green.

Arteta would have zero power to effect any kind of change.
Holy fuck Salah scored 303 fantasy PL points this year.
Second best was Sterling at 229, third was Kane at 217. I haven’t taken “C” off him since the second week into the season

For me it was this strange pride in telling everyone the truck loads of world class, club-transforming players that he had failed to convince to play for him. Strange man.

I think it was his way of telling people how he had such a great eye for talent.
People shitting on Senogo, well I did spot Messi at scoring ten goals in a Barca youth match once.

If he wants to be a manager then the best move would be to start with a low level managerial position. Staying by Pep’s side isn’t going to do much to enhance his reputation.

Would anyone take Emery at their club?
Kinda feel sorry for him, dominated France, winning 7 out of 8 trophies, but most will only remember him for the Barca/RM games, and not winning the league despite everyone praising Jardim and Monaco as being a top side.
