Manufacturer?
Also the latest pstch really did improve ray tracing performance in BF V. Played on Rotterdam where performance with ray tracing is hit the hardest, and I was in the 50s and sometimes right around 60fps range at 4k and DXR at medium. Could definitely notice the improvement during play too. Good stuff.

I went to check the strongest GPU a ASRock Z77 Extreme4 mobo can handle and it it seems to be a 1080 TI.... I eventually want to get into streaming for PS4 games and recording and was checking out the prices for an Elgato HD60 S. I been trying to figure out if I should do a rebuild now that my sister's machine is done, or do a reload. The problem is I just bought the AsRock Z77 when my old board went kablooey... hate to waste it. The other issue is my CPU is an Intel Core i3-3220 3.3 GHz Dual-Core Processor... kinda ancient.
Do I really need to do a rebuild so I could buy a 20 series card... which is still expensive as Hell? Ugh... I have so many old/new parts I don't know what I need first outside of the GPU. And 1080s haven't really dropped in price much yet.

agreed. get a better CPU first with a 1070 or 1070 ti
I've got that board with a 3570k @ 4.2 with a standard 1070 and can run most stuff on a mix of high/ultra at 1440p

Ayyy boot that i3 out the window before you go for a new GPU. Even a used i5/i7 on the same socket would be a good upgrade to consider if you don’t want to go all out on a new motherboard and RAM too.

You guys are right and I didn't want to admit it. I see so many i5-3570k/1070 combos like it was the goto overclock norm; in fact the mobo I bought off eBay was from a guy who had a 3770k with a 1070 but wanted to upgrade so he could plan a new build around the new 20 series cards (this was back in May). Right now it's pretty much either do the TV/Home Entertainment plan or the computer. Looks like it's going to be the computer.
EDIT: Full Z77 CPU support list. Welp, looks like I might have to plan out my machine for a potential overclock in the future.
i5-3570k vs. i7-3770k
EDIT (lost count of how many): Yep, going to see if I can nab a used i5-3570k and new Asus Dual 1070 in the next 3 weeks. Should I upgrade my RAM also, 8 GB DDR3-1600 (2 x 4) here?

Aww, gotta wait a couple weeks then.
I second the 16 gb of ram.
By pilonv1 Go To PostTry and get to 16 if you can, should be fine for most games but some will struggle with 8Poop. Well not like DDR3-1600 memory is expensive anyway. Will look for Dual Channel 2x8.

Well if I'm going to do this might as well do it right. Since I scrapped the new build idea in favor of a reload of my machine after my old mobo went kablooey this is currently what I have in my machine now. Again, the plan is to turn it into a gaming machine capable of streaming content and playing games at High/Ultra settings (will have to OC but that's a separate issue).

Just how cheap is a 3570k? i3-8100's are $98 from Fry's today. A B360 mobo should be around $60-$70.

I'm not buying another mobo after spending $125 on the Z77, the gains I'd get would have to be massive for it to be worth it.

A single light is $48? Who do I look like, a Porsche owner?
--My PC shutdown issues seem to have gone away since I've moved to my new spot. Only thing different is I'm plugged directly into the outlet vs a APC surge protector. Wonder if that protector is going bad or something.
Once I buy the i5-3570k I'm going hard for an OC... I haven't researched OC'ing in over 4 years (never did one although I wanted to back then)... I'm wondering if I should even do it myself or just pay a store to do it. I see 50 guides on OCing for my setup and navigating them is a headache.
By Smokey Go To PostA single light is $48? Who do I look like, a Porsche owner? Is it a surge protector or UPS? If a UPS, you want to make sure it produces a pure sin wave (not approximated) if you want to avoid potential computer issues.

And those lights are only like $35 if you buy them in bulk. I'm sure a BMW owner can afford that. :p
Finally stuffed my Samsung 860 into my case. Quite nice having all this storage space without any mechanical drives. Might opt for an NVMe next, but for now I think 2TB of SSDs will suffice.

It's not super hard, just time consuming testing. Just make sure you've got a good cooler on it. I could get mine above 4.2 but I'd have to up the voltage too much and it started running much hotter. 4.2 was the sweet spot for my chip.

Price expectation is cheaper also... I thought I'd spend like $600+ for this (GPU/CPU/memory) but it might not even be $500 unless I take an unknown expense.
This is kind of an out there question, but does anybody know of an affordable HDMI or DVI KVM switch with audio?

By Kibner Go To PostIIRC, there are a lot as long as you don't need higher resolution than 1080p or higher refresh rate than 60 hz.1080p / 60hz is all I need. There's quite a few out there, yeah, but I've no idea which manufacturers make solid stuff that doesn't stop working after a couple of months of switching. Most of the consumer reviews I've read so far are very hit & miss.
There's a lot of professional / server grade products out there, but I really don't want to spend more than ~100€ on a goddamn KVM switch.
Guess I'll just have to do my research.

I use a DX Racer since at the time that’s what all the twitch streamers were using and if they sit at their computer 15 hours a day and don’t complain about being uncomfortable that’s all I was worried about

What kind of power supplies/cooling setups did you guys who used an overclocked K chip (i5 or i7) have? I'm wondering if I should try a simple AIO water setup like a Corsair H60 (2018 edition). Something that reliably cools a CPU being used for Gaming/eventual Streaming/some video editing.
