I'm just happy that he still managed to keep that Mercedes behind him despite the penalty. If anything it shows that Max can do the impossible with this engine. Under any circumstances Bottas should have went by smiling with that Mercedes on this track. Can't fucking wait for the day he's driving a competitive car.
Coming back to this race after catching up on the footy, two things:
Firstly this race solidify mine opinion on Vettel that he just isn't world class, not on a level that Lewis (Alonso/Max) is. His start is OK, than he wants to pass Kimi on inside, which you know just isn't going to happen. Backs out of it bit clumsy and even has a unnecessary hit with Lewis and than in to the 2nd chicane tries the same . Again Kimi will defend and than when he realises Lewis is making a move on him on the out-side/racing line, successfully in clean air able to brake later he does not bail out of, try to hold on and end up logically hitting Lewis (race done).
Lewis in the same race has a look at the start in the 1st chicane, sees there is no real option backs out of it. Sees a new opportunity in the 2nd chicane perfect execution, passes Vettel. Safety Car restart sees opportunity on Kimi, perfect execution and pass on the out side. Second chicane, sees Kimi understands he's done, pulls out and slots in behind Kimi. Has to wait a long time but when another chance comes he doesn't hesitate and wins the race.
And little things like this happen far to often to Seb.
Secondly after watching top down replay, I think Max got hard done as there was a little and enough space for Bottas to move, but guess that earlier sequence put Max on the penalty bin.

Haas "cheating", so no points for Romain, so both Williams in the points :wow:
Grosjean facing exclusion after technical infringement
Grosjean facing exclusion after technical infringement
Following a protest lodged by Renault about the Frenchman's car immediately after the race at Monza, the race stewards asked the FIA's F1 technical delegate to investigate the case.
A statement issued by the stewards said that the floor of the car was in breach of the rules, as it did not comply with the regulations.
"The reference plane of car number 08 is found not to be in compliance with Article 3.7.1 d) and the clarifications given in TD/033-18 published on 25 July 2018," said the FIA.
The article mentioned states: "The surface formed by all parts lying on the reference plane must have a 50mm radius (+/-2mm) on each front corner when viewed from directly beneath the car, this being applied after the surface has been defined."
The failure of the Haas to comply with the regulations means that it will be disqualified from the results – and means that Haas will move back behind Renault to fifth place in the constructors' championship.
Not that surprising, as Stoffel just hasn't shown enough to warrant a seat. I do understand it is hard to impress when Fernando is your teammate, but all I can think of in two year stint is his drive, when he replaced Fernando before he got the seat, in Bahrain.
Norris is his replacement, up until F2 really good, this season a bit less special. Still very young and with Fernando gone he should have an easier time with Carlos as teammate, although McLaren car will not help.
Their philosophy is searching for new Hamilton or bust. They won't satisfy themself with above average driver, they want top talent even tough ironically McLaren is far from being top team at the moment.
The other halve of the story for those less invested ;)
Do not understand Kimi, as I would not have enjoyed driving around at a back team for the remainder of my driving career, but lets wait for interviews and his reasoning.
Charles, similar to what I thought of Max his early promotion, why not wait a year. So much to learn as rookie and now you have to do it in the high pressure cooker that's Ferrari. Don't doubt the kids driving talent, not sure if he is mentally ready for it. Good from Ferrari standpoint, because they need someone to push Vettel more and potentially someone to take over from him. (to many mistakes)
Respect to Ferrari for promoting the first rookie driver to the main team.
But it's like you said, he will probably be out of his depth and Seb will wipe the floor with Charlie.

By Punished Go To Postwhat's the word "futuristic" I guess
As a 80/90 kid more a fan of the early 90s rounder shapes, this has a bit to many "sharp knees" angles (front wing). Tires will get used to, less winglets is always a positive, still a Halo (no screen) :( . But let's wait until the designer have read the rules and see what they will come up with, but overall positive vibe.
We finally leave Europe behind for the remaining races of this season. First trip is to Singapore for the FORMULA 1 2018 SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.
It is more than a decade ago they added this night race to the calendar and a first wasn't sure of the why. But definitely grew on me and has become one of the races to look forward to, even though you need a little bit of help to get good racing at a street circuit.
Bit higher paces than Monaco and expect Ferrari to dominate, if the weather isn't going to help out Lewis. They were better than Mercedes in Monaco and I think the lay-out will suit them more, as in they are the team that can keep the rear tires working were Mercedes have been struggling (specially on the Hypers). And if Vettel wants that title he needs to start delivering, because Lewis isn't going to falter.
Normally a strong track for the RBR boys, but you can clearly see at the lack of updates that the decision next year all money on Honda integration has already been taken a long time ago. Still they could be a torn in Lewis his eyes if they end up as second fastest team, specially if they can keep the Hypersofts rear tires working.
For those that missed the news. Kimi back to Sauber and Charles Leclerc from Sauber to Ferrari and he becomes the youngest Ferrari driver in ages. Realy curious how Vettel will handle him, as the only other time he was up against someone young talented and fast he crumbled (dannyRic 2014). Will take some time for Charles to settle and if he is mentally strong enough I expect him to be there for a very long time.
One team that's still has to announce their line-up is Toro Rosso Honda and it looks more and more likely we will see Hartley next year (apparently has a contact) and right now my money is on Buemi to make a comeback and be his teammate (see him to often last few weeks, yes I know he is the reserve driver, but still bit to often in the garage ;) ). Would mean young guys in the main team and old rejects in the Toro Rosso, not sure if Marko is to pleased with that.
And there were a lot of rumours of Lance in a RPFIndia, but so far it looks like he will finish the season at Williams. Might be points and money related, or maybe the fact they cannot find another seat for Ocon (this season).
FP1
Mercedes as only topteam on Softs, others on Hypers, Alonso and rest on US.
And Charles doing the media a favour; "you cannot do that at Ferrari"
and one Lewis drift

All tires, short and longrun very close between Lewis/Kimi, Valteri bit slower. Vettel did hit the wall, destroyed cooling, but was on a similar pace as Kimi. RBR slower on single lap Hypers, but their longruns were really good, so do not count them out in the race.
Renault best of the rest, but they did seam to struggle with tire wear in their longrun.
Vettel:
Lewis and Vettel
Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrks:
Ferrari opened up their engine little more and look to have a comfortable gap to Mercedes, but don't think it is as big as it looks (more laps/fuel). Max had some issues on his Hyper runs, so expect him bit closer, but I doubt close enough to trouble Lewis.
Haas with turned up Ferrari engine also drops others to best of rest.
Max not happy:
Magnussen out in Q1 with Grosjean on P4 :topjob:
Sainz looses out and Alonso just not enough for Q3 :(
Lewis what a lap 6 tenths on Vettel and Max ;wow:
run 2 someone is going to hit the wall :P

LEEEEEWWWWWWIIISS
MMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAXXXX
want to see both those on boards must have been mega mega mega laps, the gain they made was massive and Ferrari cannot answer, talk about championship swing if this is tomorrow ???
Perez super super Q session, every time nail it when needed!
full Q result:
Should be great race (start), with Vettel having to make up, Max nothing to loose and Lewis probably not 100% risk against Max and the race pace of the RBR looked good on Friday.
Raceday, let's hope for a similar start as the Mexico GP last year with those top 3 guys fighting it out
without hitting each other this time ;)
without hitting each other this time ;)
I really hope Max plays it smart at the start. That Red Bull was the fastest on race simulation, so it would be both a shame and foolish for him to throw it (and maybe the championship) away in the first corner.

By Spengo Go To PostPerez into Ocon? Wowcan live with Perez explanation (did not knew he was there), but still not smart.
Hope Max don't loose out more after SC restart, RBR has had problems with tire temps and they definitely lack the straight line speed :(
race start:
Vettel vs Max
was close and that's Vettel's race ruined :P , unless we get a SC car and they will not losse to much time for next stop (or Hypers in the end)
That Renault engine driving away, looks 2nd gear for Max

Yeah, his box really doesn't like 1st gear it seems. Had to switch to 2nd and back at his stop.
Strange decision to put Vettel onto Ultras. Looks like he’s struggling to get them to work also.

That's Perez his race gone, shame you get such a big advantage by qualifying worse (11th) and free tire choice.

LEWIS
Q, race start and the race 100% control, great weekend on a track were they did not expect it. Same for Max with all the issues on the engine side, great job, also no silly things he might have pulled of few years back (Vettel/Lewis traffic).
Vettel let down by team tactics, again, although they probably felt it was only way to beat Lewis, but they loose even more points.
We do need 2021 rules, because Bottas behind Hulk and loosing so much grip that you cannot pass a backmarker says it all ;(
Alonos great start and optimised his tire choice advantage and best of the rest and curious how many penalty points Perez will get, remember Max 2 for last week.
That’s a very cool parc ferme for the 1st place.

Results race and championship after today.
Seb still can win it by winning all remaining races, so does not need any help yet.

What a salty tweet.
Boring race / track. Not taking anything away from the drivers, but ... that was just .. blah.
It is just very salty, they see another year slowly slip through their fingers.
you know when you go to a narrow street track with walls that close, turbulent air is always gonna prevent close racing. Add a long pits-street with super low speeds and everyone is going to one stop and has to save tires for a lot of laps. It is like complaining a dry Melbourne race is boring, no shit Sherlock ;)
