By LFMartins86 Go To PostHaven´t seen many films this year but BlacKKKlansman, You Were Never Really Here, Mission Impossible : Fallout and A Quiet Place were great. There are tons of movies that I want to see that are supposedly good like Roma, First Man, First Reformed, A Private War, A Star Is Born, Widows, Cold War, Searching, Sorry To Bother You, The Favourite, Burning, Private Life, Shoplifters, The Death Of Stalin and Eight Grade.
Doesn't feel like a bad year for film at all. You had some great movies in pretty much every genre.
It doesn't need to be a bad year for film to be the worst year in recent memory, it just needs to be worse than every other year. Can you pick out a year that had fewer really great releases? Because I certainly can't
That is a big list of good films. I’m actually seeing the contrary from a lot of critics - that 2018 was fucking great if you look beyond the blockbuster and attention grabbers.

I think this year has been pretty good. Got loads to watch still (Sorry to Bother You, The Favourite, Burning, Roma, Green Book etc) but can't say we've been lacking quality outside of a pretty lean summer.

Thank god you cleansed the thread.
By sohois Go To PostI just saw someone mention this, and it occurs to me that it might very well be correct: Is 2018 the worst year for film for many years? I can't think of a worse selection from my own memory. Perhaps the only film I really felt was high quality this year has been Annihilation, and though December is normally the period for a sudden rush of Oscar contenders, the release slate is still looking pretty barren as far as I can see.
It’s only bad if stuck to mainstream American stuff. Indies and foreign were popping this year
Bumblebee is sitting at 96% in RT. Shame that it's getting released in such a busy season with Spider Man Into The Spiderverse, Mary Poppins and Aquaman all coming out in the next two weeks.
By Apollo Go To PostIt’s only bad if stuck to mainstream American stuff. Indies and foreign were popping this yearI only really watch the latter, that's where the disappointment lies for me.
Unfortunately it gets worse as it goes on and becomes bonkers in a bad way and loses the thread on its social commentary.
Sorry To Bother You was one of the biggest disappointments of the year for me. More ideas than know-how.
By Laboured Go To Postoh nohow are his legs doing that
Man, I wish they could've put me in this movie with Bumblebee, cuz I would've had Bumblebee going full savage on everybody.
By Laboured Go To Postoh noSONI€ WUZ HERE
The new Predator movie is utter trash.
Fragmented as hell. They didn't know what they wanted to do with the movie and decided to pull off a shit action flick with cheap humor.

Yes and its beautiful.
By one point perspective sy Go To PostThe last black and white movie I watched was Frances Ha. It was trashyou're trash.
THere is no way you found Frances Ha interesting man. I like artsy shit but my goodness, I fell asleep multiple times trying to slog through that.
I feel like Frances Ha is one of those movies critics have to pretend they actually like, just like Into the Void.

Jesus stick to manga you damn pleb
Read the Attack on Titan manga, but talk shit about black and white movies made by one of the best directors and arguably one of best cinematographers in the world. Incredible.
EDIT: Damn, thought Lubezki was cinematographer on Roma, but guess Curan did it all.
