Exactly. It’s all politics, fam
A Star is Born
Black Panther
BlackkKlansman
Roma
Vice
All locks, I reckon. First Man, Widows, Beale Street, The Favourite and Green Book all with chances too.
I doubt Roma will get a nomination for Best Picture, too many people with power in Hollywood don't want Netflix to have that kind of award recognition.
It’s getting absolutely overwhelming reviews though. Mudbound broke the seal a bit; they can’t ignore both Cuaron and the praise it’s getting.
The real crime will be when Paddington 2 doesn’t even pick up one nomination.

By reilo Go To PostWhat events?Green Book getting flak for being a white perspective, Paul schrader wants to work with kevin spacey
By n8 dogg Go To PostPaul schrader wants to work with kevin spaceyI was curious about what he said:
“I was sent a script yesterday. A very very very good script which screamed Kevin Spacey for the lead. I told the producer I’d direct it if they would make it with Kevin. The producer responded that that was not possible. I believe there are crimes in life but no crimes in art. Spacey should be punished for any crimes his actual person created. But not for art. All art is a crime. Punishing him as an artist only diminishes art.
I think he meant to say art is not a crime. I have no issues with a director wanting to work with Spacey.
Hmm
Can't agree personally, he's only now facing any kind of punishment for crimes he commited decades ago. Think anyone who works with Polanski is a knobend for much the same reason. As melodramatic as it sounds, until you've repented and shown remorse for stuff like that, you should be blacklisted.

Not sure that makes much sense. Until a year or so ago, Spacey has faced no consequences for his actions.
I still don't get the Polanski shit, it really wasn't debatable that he raped a 13 yr old. Yet he kept getting work, stars and directors on his side. There's a lot of directors of films I enjoy on that fuckin' letter/petition too. Really pissed me off. Still does.

AFP is reporting that a grand assembly of filmmakers, actors and producers from around the world have signed a petition urging the release of director Roman Polanski, who was arrested Sunday in Switzerland on a warrant for a 1977 underage sex case in the United States.List here:

Watched Skyscraper last night on UHD with Dolby Vision, looked great but the movie itself was boring lol
Shame The Rock plays it so safe with his roles, feel he could be like Arnie with the right one.

I would just like to say that Titanic, as told by James Cameron, is still the greatest story ever told.
Get you a love story like that Titanic's, but with a happier ending obviously.
I'm not inspired, you are.

The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance, undermines this tradition: it opens the way for actions of which no one can know the effects.
By Random Ass Username Go To Postyeah that as wellAt least Ed Harris, Nick Nolte and Amy Madigan stayed seated and looked passed off when McCarthy snitch Elia Kazan won his honourary Oscar.

im guessing it'll be Dr. Strange / Antman 2 tier -- nothing offensive, some fun parts, but ultimately meh

The Avengers trailer was supposed to go up tomorrow but Disney gave up on that on the last minute as it will be a day of mourning for Bush in the States.
Sony is apparently putting Spider Man's trailer on Saturday while A4 will be on Friday.
And yeah, You Were Never Really Here is amazing.

Completely kills any suspense (i mean, not that there was any, but fuckin hell keep up the pretence at least) of Spidey being real gone
By FortuneFaded Go To PostAm I the only person who didn't like You Were Never Really Here?
hopefully. Didn’t think it’s a masterpiece - it’s basically a less interesting Taxi Driver - but it has a sublime lead performance, an incredible score and the best British filmmaker around doing her fuckin thang.

I know that. But at least the end of the film gives some illusion. Now we tangibly get to see Spidey fucking around before his ‘fate’ is ‘revealed’. It makes overwhelmingly explicit the lack of dramatic heft in these movies, and no one can ever convince me otherwise. Infinity War was fucking shit, and this makes it shitter. Having these movies be so dependent on each other to have any impact is hamstringing them all.
My top 10 of the year, probably in rough-ish order. Probably been my weakest year for film watching for over a decade; real life got in the way fam. Made Paddington 2 a 2018 release for the sake of it.

First Reformed
Paddington 2
Widows
Hereditary
Mission: Impossible - Fallout
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

I don’t think I’ve seen anything forrun this year. Barely been to the cinema, only watched a film at home the last week or two. Think them and Black Panther/Infinity War have pretty much been what I’ve seen
Saw Your Name on Saturday and regret not seeing it sooner. Easily one of the best I have seen in a long while.
foreign movies were crazy good this year.
also y'all need to watch the tale. saw it with the director in audience (the movie is based on her life story). powerful stuff.
