It's one of the best films I've ever seen, but I'll never rewatch it

Ant-Man and the Wasp is a mediocre film.
But that scene when Michael Peña gets the truth serum and we see the actors play out using his voice is one of the best things I've seen in a long time lol

Caught The Ballad of Buster Scruggs at the London film festival. It's very good overall, but since it's an anthology of stories I'll break it down into the different parts. I can't really say what the linking themes are between the parts, save that they all seem to be vaguely tragi-comedies and are all Westerns. Except part 4, which isn't tragic.
Parts 1 & 2 are both basically pure comedy. I've not thought much of Coen Brothers comedy in the past, but generally Buster Scruggs is actually funny so these both work quite well, and they're nice and short as well unlike 3 & 4. Part 1 is the stronger of the 2.
Part 3 veers far more into the tragedy aspects; it's fine, but really it could have been done in 2 minutes since the only part that matters is the ending, instead of being dragged out.
Part 4 is just kind of weird. I'm gonna go ahead and spoil it, since, well: This is the plot. A man goes into a valley to search for gold. He finds some gold. Then he leaves. That's pretty much it. Except that it goes on for like 15 minutes.
Part 5 is the longest and most fully fleshed out story. There are still plenty of comic moments but it's probably the most serious of the bunch. I quite liked it as a short story, though the core plot is fairly standard and you'll guess what's going to happen having seen the previous 4 parts.
6 is the most unique of the bunch, and I won't say much about it since it's better not to know anything.
So to sum up 1, 2, 5 & 6 are all good, 3 & 4 are merely fine. Overall well worth watching, even if you've not liked the more light hearted Coen brothers entries in the past.
I also say Shadow, by Zhang Yimou is anyone cares about that. I enjoyed it, though it's basically just Hero/House of Flying Daggers once again - Medieval China, everyone betrays everyone, crazy martial arts, sumptuous cinematography, etc.

Saw Tron Legacy last night. I see where the praise and criticism come from. Plot is kinda bad and very predictable. Action scenes are lol worthy in actor execution. Music and visual design are aces though. Do not regret watching.
Next movie to catch up on with the gf is the new Bladerunner.

Laurie Strode the Gawd. She was channeling the same damn hate as The Shape. Lmao. This movie was a tale about 2 goons that had beef for 40 years.
I don't know how I feel about Halloween, critically, but I was very entertained.

First Man was decent. Technically kinda marvellous all around; Chazelle has the chops to shine outside of his usual wheelhouse, the score was magnificent, and I fuckin’ love seeing quality TV actors like Wigham, Stoll, Pornstache et al pop up in small roles and give bit-part characters more depth through nuance alone. I think in terms of the story it told however, it’s fairly standard biopic fare. There’s nothing interesting in the way that story is told; it should have been more about the awe and wonder of what Armstrong had accomplished rather than a technically proficient but emotionally restrained white-knuckle ride. Chazelle decides to go all close-up on shaky nuts and bolts so the visceral and dangerous nature of space exploration is the emphasis, whereas I like my space shit to be more like ‘yo fuck we in space’, a la Interstellar. Not enough sweeping vistas until the final 20 my brehs. Stuff on the moon itself is excellent, though; contemplative, meditative, and I’m sure some other ‘tives’.
it should have been more about the awe and wonder of what Armstrong had accomplished rather than a technically proficient but emotionally restrained white-knuckle ride.I don't think the story was ever going to be more than that. It's exactly the story that Armstrong himself would've wanted told, and it's why he only ever allowed that biography to be authorized by himself. Armstrong disliked being seen in the spotlight and looked upon as a "hero".
His family even pointed out that he was a "reluctant hero" in his obituary:
Although FWIW I agree with you that I wished there was more fanfare around his accomplishment, but I can see why they went the route they did.
Neil Armstrong was also a reluctant American hero who always believed he was just doing his job. He served his Nation proudly, as a navy fighter pilot, test pilot, and astronaut. He also found success back home in his native Ohio in business and academia, and became a community leader in Cincinnati. So once you view the story from Neil's lens, it makes a lot of sense.

I need to see some stuff I watched back in the day in HD, mainly Chinese fantasy/historical drama but god damn I wish I could just stream it. Might have to blow some loads on blurays. Someone needs to get their act together and get stuff like Hero, Curse of the Golden Flower, In The Mood for Love, 2046, Red Cliff etc on a service and I don't mean paying 4-9 bucks to amazon for the privilege of a day rental or digi copy.

Yup. I even watched some tubes although they were bereft of subtitles about the making of the clothes. O_O.
Kore-eda's Shoplifters was really great, does actually 'make u think' by the end. Much better than Third Murder.
First Reformed was excellent; feels like a smaller, more intimate companion piece to Silence in regards to its themes. Hawke is genuinely stunning, carrying so much pain and conflict with such subtlety; this is no blank slate performance a la Gosling in First Man, where lack of reaction are mistaken for restraint and repression.
Venom was... not great? But I can see what Hardy meant by that they took out his favorite parts because the interaction between Venom and Brock was great. I think there might be a decent movie somewhere in here with the right editing. It's just that anything not involving Hardy and Venom was truly poor.
Just watched The Final Master (Netflix) and it was pretty interesting. The plot gets a little bit "wut" but it honestly reminds me of a Jarmusch film, in a good way though. Great shots too.
Really have no idea how or why Suspiria 2018 was 2.5 hours long. Think it'll require a rewatch to try and justify it.
Halloween was solid, but it's a film everyone has seen a hundred times before.
I've said it before: The series needs its Resident Evil 4 and God of War moment. Put Jake Gyllenhaal in the mask and let him actually talk, let him actually run.
The fact that the current Meyers is mute, never runs, etc is really old at this point and it's not scary. And he isn't interesting as a character.

Wasn't that interested in watching this but stumbled into a couple of reviews that called this the best direct to video Hellraiser (which isn't exactly a glowing recommendation) and I've already watched every single shitty sequel so what's the problem with watching one more.
This is definitely a step up from that unwatchable piece of crap that was Revelations but it's far from the best direct to video Hellraiser, Inferno still is my favorite of the shitty sequels and I only found out recently that it was directed by Scott Derrikson.
This is a low budget movie done for 350k and it shows. The special effects are OK but the whole thing has a cheap look to it. The plot is a bit shit, it tries to expand the Hellraiser lore by introducing the Stygian Inquisition, whose job is to process the souls of the sinners.
Could have been an interesting idea but the movie uses it as an excuse to do some gross out scenes and put some tits on screen.
3 detectives are investigating a serial killer whose murders are based on the Ten Commandants (how original), Pinhead is a bit of a dick, there are some heaven stuff and some cliche twists.
There are some decent ideas in this, a bigger budget and better actors could have helped it a ton.
Oh, Heather Langenkamp from the original Nightmare On Elm Street is on this, I barely recognized her as the old landlord lady.
EXCLUSIVE: While he has been eyeing other projects that include a coming of age Merlin movie at Disney, Ridley Scott has begun forward progress on a sequel to Gladiator, the 2000 film which garnered 11 Oscar nominations and five wins including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe. While Crowe’s Maximus character met his end in the classic original film, Gladiator 2 will follow the continuing story of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen),https://deadline.com/2018/11/gladiator-sequel-ridley-scott-maximus-peter-craig-writing-paramount-universal-1202494152/
