By Fenderputty Go To PostA permanent tank blows. You've been conditioned through years of hell as a Knicks fan.Especially now that the lottery odds are so much worse. I can't recommend anybody straight up throw years away. The Wolves tanked for the better part of 14 years. It's a lot easier to say, "They should tank," than to actually watch your team do it.
The Wolves didn't even escape their tank hell until they lucked into Towns and then turned a bunch of assets into a superstar player. This shit is hard to get out of.

It creeps into your culture in ways you can't control. You hire joke coaches to run your team during a tank and fire them. That doesn't look good. You never build a winning culture. You become seen as a joke etc etc.
I would trade a tank for a 6-8 seed treadmill any day ...
I like how the Mavs are doing it. Stability with guys like Carlisle, Dirk, and whoever(JJB/Devin/Cuban/Wes). The young guys are getting burn and trying to win, but the team just sucks.
The culture of losing thing is very real. You can draft kids that all played for winning colleges or on good Euroleague teams, and then they get to your team and become one of the regular losers. Everyone that's already there is used to it and new faces just come to accept it.
You can try to bring in vets to fix it, but most of them don't want to go to your team. Vets that are willing to play for a 20 win team aren't good enough and don't care enough to actually address problems in the locker room.
It's an almost impossible cycle to break out of. You need such insane luck. If Chicago hadn't been willing to part with Butler for 50 cents on the dollar, there's no doubt in my mind the Wolves would still be among the dregs of the league.

I like that the Mavs have alot of hardworking hungry young guys and that effort prevents tank culture. Having Dirk and Rick Carlisle of course matters also. No tank commanders or guys terrible at the game of basketball on that team.
Now... you want a deadly combination of that?
At the time I was clowning DY after that last game but I was later on so pissed how that ended Paul Silas's coaching career. His work in the 90s-early 2000s was largely overlooked.
Like, I legitimately wouldn't even argue that the Warriors became this good by tanking. Neither Curry, Klay, nor Dray were Top 5 picks, and Iguodala and Bogut were acquired via free agency or trade. Let's not go into the Durant bullshit, they'd still be winning 60 games without him.
Then you got the Spurs that have consistently been 50-win teams despite their only Top 5 pick in the last 20 years having been Tim Duncan, and again, Kawhi was not a Top 10 pick, and Aldridge acquired via free agency.
Ditto for Houston and how they stay alive via free agency and trade. Same for Boston. Even Toronto wasn't built on a Top 5 draft pick foundation and they're #2 in the East right now.

It's not the reason for their success but the Warriors absolutely tanked to keep their pick to get Barnes.
By s y Go To PostHarrison Barnes contributed to the Warriors winning more than KD ever has..sy preachin, but he aint reachin.
Tank and end up with Harrison Barnes. Truly a harrowing tale. And really one that's not uncommon.
There were so many times the Wolves pissed away a season and got rewarded with a bad ping pong ball bounce and Derrick Williams for their troubles. Win 15 games, your prize is an old Wes Johnson. Sorry about the 29 win season, here's a Kris Dunn.

There was scuttlebutt around the draft that if Warriors took, say, Andre Drummond instead of Harrison Barnes, Portland would've drafted Barnes instead of Damian. Just kill me. There's an alternate universe where this exists.
The reason the Hornets suck now is squarely on Batum and our FO/Coaches being too bitchmade to bench him

Ahh but in this alternate universe, their worse record causes them to land at #6 in the 2013 draft, and not really liking what is there they decide to trade back for the #14 pick where they take Giannis, the #25 pick where they take Gobert and Devin Booker at #11 from the future first they also got.

Can I just say that I want Jeff Teague banished to the phantom zone.
I actively despise watching him play basketball and if they don't move him in the summer, I'm going to lose my mind.

the losing culture thing is true to an extent--see fournier and vucevic. they put up stats and generally look okay but they've got so many losing habits (that they both enable as they play alongside one another) that they're useless on the magic beyond padding their own numbers.
that said, it isn't absolute--the warriors sure as shit escaped that. remember this was the franchise that paid 10 million a year to corey maggette.

Why would clippers do this, is the pick worth it

No way they'd move a pick for a Lou Will rental. Not that it would make any sense for the Clips to be sellers right now anyway.
Lou and Deandre are free agents in July. If you can pick up assets for guys that could well leave in five months, that makes a lot of sense.
This doesn't mean Tristan Thompson.

I can't remember the last time I saw a playoff team sell off guys to fall down into the mid-lotto at best.

I'm telling you, the Spurs are surrounded by a dark aura of evil magic.* They make strange things happen. Any time Toronto beats them it's a miracle win, even with three of their key guys out.
*Magic may not actually be evil.

The Spurs black magic knows no bounds. There is no way they should have the record they do right now with that squad. Pop is a wizard.
I see D'angelo played tonight. Didn't do so well though.
By reilo Go To Post
Yeah, he hasn't got star potential and I think some dumb teams think he does.
Hood's handle and athleticism are extremely average at best. He's just a shooter.
