How arrogant of man. People are praying RBG stays on as a judge, to save the country. She's up there in age and can't retire, because we've collectively decided to not give a fuck. Because the majority of this country doesn't have the word empathy in their self centered ass dictionaries. If she wanted to take her ball and go home, I couldn't even be mad.

One thing you gotta hand it to Trump: he sure knows how to take every opportunity to relish in every small (and bigly) victory and rub it in everyone's face. He doesn't just merely rub it in everyone's face, but takes it to the next level by antagonizing all his enemies old and new all over again. He's the master at this shit. This is a man that has turned every career politician into his bitch.
When's the last time Democrats ever took home the W (instead of their recurring L's) and then used it as the ultimate opportunity to just gleefully piss in Republicans' cereal? You can't tell me when, cuz it probably never happened. That's why Democrats will always have an enthusiasm gap. This blue wave isn't going to be for Democrats so much as against Trump. You can't even tell me I'm wrong.

If liberals cared as much as they say they do about voting and rights they would have made efforts for convicted felons and prisoners to still have the right. Can't really talk about classism and racism and then leave out a big part of the picture with disenfranchisement being chill shit.

If the Supreme Court does overturn abortions, would the evangelicals finally begin supporting universal healthcare, on their terms?

They might, if overturning abortions had anything to do with actually protecting human lives and wasn't chiefly about regaining absolute control over the personal decisions of every single woman in the country
By Smoke Dogg Go To PostIf the Supreme Court does overturn abortions, would the evangelicals finally begin supporting universal healthcare, on their terms?lmao abortion was never about the fetus lol. it's that women dared to make choices about their own bodies.

Why should felons have the right to vote?
By Kidjr Go To PostWhy should felons have the right to vote?Look at it like this
We put more people in jail than damn near every other country for a reason lol
Even more hilarious when incarceration is our legalized slavery loophole as well.
I'm generally of the same mindset as you are regarding voting rights for those in jail, but considering there's more ways than ever to end up behind bars then it's something to get out ahead of. I'd not be surprised at all if unpaid parking tickets barred people from voting in the next decade. A drug charge for example shouldn't keep you from voting on welfare reform, etc.
By Kidjr Go To PostWhy should felons have the right to vote? Why should they not?
That's....
Generally speaking, most don't even like known "non violent radicals" voting. Why on Earth should someone tried and found guilty of starving foster kids have the right to vote? 😂
People should have the right to disqualify themselves from certain privileges when appropriate and necessary. Otherwise, it's a fact that they will not value it.

Just my two cents, I guess my view is by breaking the law the consequence of that means removing access to certain aspects of society. Freedom of movement, decision making privalages and I include voting in that. In the most basic form, you choose to operate outside the parameters we've set in our society so you can no longer get access to certain rights.

I hear you and there's a whole host of other issues with prison imo and I can maybe even get behind that tbh. If our decision making that shitty at putting people in jail then sure, thats better solution I guess but still doesnt change my fundamental belief that in an ideal world I dont think you should be able to vote as a prisoner.
Once you serve your debt to society you should have your rights... there really isn't a single valid reason to say otherwise...

Sure once you're free you can vote 100%

I guess we just see different to different things, KidJr. A lot of countries don't see the prison time as the loss of your right to vote while others do (UK and US being an example, although UK has changed their laws slightly)
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20447504
but some states make it really hard for felons to get their rights back... think when people complain about felon voting that is what they are talking about
ohhhhh my bad sorry totally missunderstood, they 1000% should get every right back once the time is served. Even on Parole. I didnt even know that was a thing (not getting your right to vote back)
No problem mate, out of interest why do you see it differently?

By blackace Go To PostOnce you serve your debt to society you should have your rights… there really isn't a single valid reason to say otherwise…Eh. Depends.
I think certain things should lead to you being categorically barred off. Maybe even permanently.
A lot of stuff is just petty though.
By Kidjr Go To PostNo problem mate, out of interest why do you see it differently?Probably because of how I view prisons in general, as I don't think it should strip you of all your rights. Losing liberty (physically) does not equal rights to lose their vote in my opinion.
By DY_nasty Go To PostEh. Depends.most of those things get you mad time... maybe treason could be an exception... but I believe if x amount of time is the debt and you are deemed worthy to live in society you should be able to have a say about society

Nah, or maybe share some examples because there is nothing that goes beyond debt served that I can think of.
We make sex offenders register. Time served doesn't equal rehabilitation - and the US in particular doesn't prioritize rehabilitation. Hate crimes, Certain financial, organized crime related things.
Time served shouldn't simply be the end of it.

We follow junkies from the hospital, we monitor those who have a history of extortion, etc. Losing the ability to drive your car without breathing into the monitor goes beyond time served as well.
I will however say that one of the biggest flaws in democracy is people who should have no voice at all get one for free. But you know I Hardline on certain things...

I want to agree with this and on some levels I do, just think you'd be getting involved in some dangerous territory deciding who should and shouldnt have a voice because more often than not, shit isnt as black and white as good or bad.
That's kind of the point of a democracy... even people who believe in the craziest of things get a voice
Democracy ain't perfect lol.

But what if we did away with crazy people entirely? And by that I actually mean, what if we incinerated the all of old people?
