Who's your congressman? Who's your senator? Who's your governor? If you don't like what you're seeing, vote them out. Jesus christ I'm so sick of you bellyaching over Dem and GOP in equal measure when you've never for once proposed a solution. 48 out of 49 democrats voted against this dude and somehow they and the GOP are a match made in heaven?
Schumer f'ed up by not getting his caucus in order and that's on him, but explain to me how Heidi Heitkamp and Claire McCaskill are also feckless idiots?
Been voting since I was legal, even for the democrats, who have helped consolidate more and more power in the fed and the executive branch especially and look how well it's turned out. Don't try to lecture me.

Vote for a far left candidate in your state primary then. There are no shortages of them around. Lucky for you they're all caucusing with the democratic party, so If you don't like what the democratic party looks like now, go change it.
Someone at some point is going to have to remind me what good Joe Manchin is if he keeps siding with Republicans on the most important matters.
By Pac-12 Go To PostSomeone at some point is going to have to remind me what good Joe Manchin is if he keeps siding with Republicans on the most important matters.According to 538, he votes with Trump 61% of the time. Would you rather have a Republican in his seat that's going to vote with Trump every time instead? Like, Manchin voted no on the health care bill, he voted for net neutrality, he voted no on the tax bill. These are all within the last year.
I will always be in favor of the 50 state strategy, even if it means having uneasy allies like Manchin.

He sided with them on healthcare and taxes. He’s the mythical socially conservative fiscally liberal politician. He sucks but it’s WV. The progressive who tried to primary him didn’t fair so well.

By Pac-12 Go To PostSomeone at some point is going to have to remind me what good Joe Manchin is if he keeps siding with Republicans on the most important matters.Until the democrats can win the median senate seat, which is like NC, FL, PA, MI, they need people like Joe Manchin.
I said this a page ago and I'll say it again. This is our payment for the sins of 2016. Voting matters and both sides'ing this shit only results in more conservative outcomes. If RGB's health goes south and Dems don't take the senate in 2016, the courts will be gone for 2 decades or more. Pray the blue wave is real.
The Supreme Court, as a whole, has done far more to damage the United States than to save it. Honestly the less legitimate they become the better it is for our democracy.

People can view the institution poorly and question it's legitimacy, but the power they wield is not part of that. Dems shouldn't even go after Kav. Leave him be. Blow up the legislative filibuster and put two more justices on. When they eventually retake power.
lol I'm sorry but "go vote and swallow the shit sandwich" doesn't seem to be a solution.

What else do you have? Armed insurrection? Move out of the country? The very least you can do if you purport to support progressive causes is to throw your support behind them when they announce a run. For starters, you could do a lot worse than Sherrod Brown and Tammy Baldwin.
I refuse to believe there aren't progressive candidates he can support running for state legislature in his district.
Like, both side centrist people like Mark Warner and Bill Nelson didn't just pop out of the ground. They were local politicians first and then moved to the national stage.
There’s no saving this country. We’ve allowed this stupidity to spread for far too long and it’s incurable. Everyone is guilty of letting so much shit slide throughout history and we’re a country that idolizes the wealthy (the people making sure we’re upper lower class citizens)
We’re a country where people are happy to make $50 on their paycheck while paying $200 more in healthcare or on groceries

Can't keep dropping the ball by doing obvious shit like propping up Schumer then asking for more passionate voting. It's been done to death in here but maybe saying the dems suck only when there's no other recourse is part of the problem. It's jacked when you can look at every major talking point from the Dems in the past two years and almost always be able to locate *exactly* when they fucked up.

Backing up for a minute here, I honestly don't know how you can look at what the Tea Party have done to the Republicans in the last 10 years and arrive at the conclusion that it's impossible to shape the Democratic party in your image. No one here likes the tea party, but like, there's a template that works. Right now.

The Tea Party wasn't just wholesale embracing the crazies either. There was money, high end support, etc. The left isn't going to get that kind of momentum going because instead of clearly defined goals and objectives with certain groups, there's this accepted cannibalism that goes on when someone's solution or project isn't perfect enough.
I'd be all for it but they can't even let Maxine Waters live lol

Thing is there's a lot more money behind the Tea Party than the left wing equivalent. There's no Koch brothers putting resources into the DSA. Plus the conservative media was willing to fuel the right wing in a way that MSNBC never would. There's a lot of institutional powers invested in keeping the Dems as the moderate party and only a huge amount of grassroots activism can challenge them.
I'd just like people to acknowledge the active attempts to squash that type of thing out within the left
Berniecrats need to run in either very blue districts (where the constituents will have nothing to lose) or in very red districts (where again the electorate runs no risk of being sabotaged).
Then they need to keep fucking up the DNC's Hillarobots in the presidential primaries too.

By HasphatsAnts Go To PostI think it’s absolutely fair to say that voting alone doesn’t solve things. You need to organize and protestYou gotta at some point acknowledge that this is like asking people to pull up their voting booth boot straps
You can protest your heart out. But when the people you get into office either dismiss how they got the position, patronize the fuck out of you, or start greater gooding it up then it might be time to look at the institution itself likely working as intended.
I have a legitimate question I need to posit, if you keep compromising with rightist shit why would you earnestly expect less of it to follow?
N
But that’s the whole point. The constitution itself was written to have a conservative bent to begin with. The system working as intended meant that only landed gentry could vote, until that was no longer the case. Women couldn’t vote, until that was expanded. Cartoon villains could own people and work them to death until we fought a war over it. Voting bootstraps may not get you everything you want but taking your ball and going home certainly doesn’t get you anything whatsoever.

I'd be 100% with you if there wasn't this consistent obliviousness when it comes to elected officials swerving off on the people who put them in office. And it's not some federal level thing exclusively either. Just like the article posted regarding the stuff in DC, there's a huge problem with voter priorities being tossed in the bushes. It's what effectively clips many of the tea party-esque stuff from even gaining momentum. So I can't really roll with you on that one.
I'm not saying that Manchin is some deciding factor in all this and I'd hope my argument isn't interpreted in such a way. I am however going to reiterate that there's some serious consistent failings from the left, even without the actual seats in Congress that they've been clamoring for.
When you want new blood in and the old guard has been determined not to budge since before Obama got in then there's only so much voter enthusiasm can accomplish.
Edit: also fuck Schumer. But I been saying that

This killed me though:
"Building a big aqueduct uphill into a mountainous region would be both costly and difficult, and people don't want their water spent that way,"
Imagine that meeting.
NASA: We're gonna die die, if we don't cool off that volcano. So, it's gonna cost money and a lot of water, but we'll save humanity.
People: Nah. Hard pass on that...all of that really.
Sounds about right. The other gem is how it mentions there’s people in need of water so it would be controversial to use it this way
