How about $30K? That’s all I need for this beauty.

Yeah, they nailed the look of the car with minor changes. It's going to be a beast with that detuned GT3 engine.
Well, Volvo certainly knows how to make an attractive car, I'll give them that. New V60 wagon is some hot stuff. Hopefully it comes in electric blue.

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology estimate that 1,200 people in Europe will die early -- each losing as much as a decade of their life -- solely because of the excess emissions generated by VW cars sold in Germany between 2008 and 2015.

Boy the Model 3 is even uglier in person. I'm not sure how Tesla messed that up given how the Model S is a legitimately good looking car.

I actually disagree. I thought it was pretty ugly when I first saw it too. But since I've been seeing them more and more, it's grown on me.
Obviously, the Tesla Model S looks amazing and Model 3 doesn't stack up. But I think the Model 3 is eye candy compared to the Model X. Then again, I like "old man" cars like the Buick Lacrosse, so I don't know, take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Anyone going to the New York Auto show next month?
I use to go to the NY press days and they were amazing. None of the cars were roped off. You could sit inside damn near everything, including some of the concepts.

So nobody's buying Corvettes.
I guess the perception of driving a higher-end Miami rental car is not the best proposition. Thousands of new 2017s have yet to be sold, with incentives reaching over $10,000. As great of a car the Corvette is, I think the Corvette name plate has lost its luster. Its production volume is exceedingly high, and its exclusivity is absolutely null.
I wouldn't be surprised if the C7 ends up one of the longest running Vettes since the very troubled C3, which ran for 14 years and then the C4 with its tired 13 years.

I think the Corvette has the same problem as the Toyobaru... everybody who wanted one has one already. Most of the Corvette buyers are 40-somethings who grew up dreaming of owning one... now those some 40-somethings have the money to get one and that they did.
Speaking as somebody in their late 20's, if I could afford a Corvette, I'd love to own one... but if I could afford it, I wouldn't get one. I'd rather buy a base model 718 Cayman with that $60k. And tbh, I think a lot of enthusiasts like us would swing for the Cayman instead of the 'vette.

Well, I've never been a big fan of the Corvette anyway, even when it didn't have the "sports car for older guys" stigma that it does now. Like a lot of American made cars the performance to dollar ratio is excellent but it has just never been a car that I really desired. Some of that is down to the styling, which has never been my cup of tea (and even now I think the current gen Camaro is better looking) and some of it is down to the fact that I have moved away from muscle cars as I have gotten older.
Obviously the Corvette still has an audience and is still important for GM but that audience just may not be as big as they want it to be.
Obviously the Corvette still has an audience and is still important for GM but that audience just may not be as big as they want it to be.
By and large, the issue I have with the Corvette mirrors the problem I have with the Camaro and GM in general.
With the Camaro, you're spending real car money since they're high 40s and up for the "performance models," but they have a rental car interior and poor interior ergonomics. I expect you to nail all the basics at that price.
With the Corvette, you're spending money that warrants bringing home something truly special. And somehow, they still haven't nailed the whole package.
Drivetrains are damned important, but you live and die on the little stuff. And if you can't make your special cars truly, completely special down to the lower door trim and volume knobs on the stereo, go home. You don't cost cut something you expect people to view as exclusive.
The V6 Camaro is probably secretly GM's best car, especially if you get a lightly used one in the 20s or less.

By reilo Go To Post992 interior:I'll reserve judgement until I see the finished product. That picture makes the interior look pretty low rent and I am sure they are not going to release the 992 911 with a low rent interior. At least I sincerely hope not!
That looks like a modern re-imagining of the 964 interior.
I mean it's pretty similar to what the Panamera is doing:
Once all the bits and ends are added it'll look great I reckon.

Yeah, the entire steering wheel assembly is missing the plastic housing that encases it, for starters.
That interior is so cluttered that it's hard to get a good idea of what it looks like. I'll say this much: it's not as flowy and pretty as the Panamera's, that's for sure. The Panamera has one flowing center stack. The 911 is very angular by comparison. The 911 is also going to retain a lot of buttons, as luxury touches are NOT what this car will aim for.
Love seeing that stick shift, though.
I'm going to Tavarish's house tomorrow to see this ridiculous salvaged Gallardo that he bought in person. LOL.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostI'm going to Tavarish's house tomorrow to see this ridiculous salvaged Gallardo that he bought in person. LOL.Yeah I cant believe he bought that thing. It's got a bunch of go fast parts bolted on (from a reputable shop, but still) and it's got a salvage title from the engine fire. If it were bone stock with a salvage title it would be one thing but with all of that extra kit on there it seems like it would be a nightmare to get running correctly.
At any rate, it is a Gallardo and I wish him success with it.
I saw the car yesterday. The thing about Freddy (Tavarish) is that he knows his shit. And he finds this Gallardo to be easier to work on than other cars, because of how everything is basically all in one location and access is pretty good. Right now the car is totally taken apart. I think at the very least, he will get this thing running and driving.
The original owner of the car is pissed at him because Freddy stated he doesn't quite buy the story of it catching fire during a gas fill up. I'm not so sure I buy it either. I saw quite a number of other warped and melted little plastic and rubber bits, as well as yellowed paint on on the passenger side of the car, meanwhile the original owner says the fire was on the driver's side.
Furthermore, this car was bought from an insurance auction and the guy is taking it too personally, especially since Freddy's actually never met him. His theory is that it must've caught fire on the dyno and quickly put out. I don't personally think the fire lasted anymore than 15-20 seconds. And you can see crevices in the bay where the white residue from the fire extinguisher settled.
I recommended he just get the car running without the turbos for now, and that's the plan. But there are so many wires torn and cut for no good reason, that may be a massive challenge. I'm actually really excited about the whole thing, I think he will get the car running, personally.

Sounds like he needs a new wiring harness?
Also gas fillup sounds like total bullshit. If that had happened that would've been impossible to extinguish.

It's beyond wiring harness. A lot of these may not even be factory wires and such.
The way the original owner describes the fire is he was filling up on the car on one side, and the fire started on the other side. That usually means there's a leak somewhere. And because of how janky and loose the fuel line is, it wouldn't surprise me if that's where the leak happened.

So my car started acting up yesterday on the way to Tavarish's house...it started to buck and hesitate between 1K-2K RPM. On the way back home it drove fine. And fine again at night.
But today, I took a very short 1/2 mile drive and on the way back it started doing it again. Ugh. Tavarish thinks it's the spark plugs. I hope he's right, because I'm about to order some. But I'm also worried about it being a transmission issue. My extended warranty runs out in exactly 1 month. :|

2012 with 37K miles.
I ordered new spark plugs and filters.
...air filters require taking off the wheels to get through the wheel well. >:(
Also going to the dealer on Wednesday to see if they can read any DTCs.

Got my car back from the shop. Stellar work, swapped the passenger door + fixed front left wing and repainted the bottom of front right wing where the paint had started to come off due to stone chipping etc.
Now all thats left is the hatch. They told me there is no point in getting it repainted because its probably corroded from the inside and needs to be replaced. Once its warmer I will try to take the inside plastic off and see how bad it is and hope it gets covered by the body warranty

I still prefer the hatchback body style to any other though, I think. What kind of car did you have again?

The hatch is designed in such a way that it accumulates water where it connects with the bumper and its always wet there. The problem is that there seems to be a fault where two sheets of metal were rolled together at the bottom of the hatch and water got in from there.

Thanks. Yeah, age is often the factor for replacing certain things on a car, as opposed to mileage. So I hope you're right in this case. I hope it's something simple like plugs, MAF, or filters.
By reilo Go To PostIt's not fantastic but it does have some lines and angles that I like. And it is at least a little bit of a departure from the current A6 styling so at least they are putting in a little bit of effort this time around. It looks like the cabin might have 3 (THREE?) screens? Virtual cockpit, multifunction display and then climate controls below that? Before long new cars will no longer have physical buttons but only haptic feedback touch controls and screens everywhere. It's the future! (I'm not sure I like this future)

Jag is at the dealer. It didn't hiccup once on my way there. They are going to clean the throttle body and MAFs. Install the new plugs and filters. And then run diagnostics for any misfires anywhere, etc. Supercharger snout came in too, that's getting replaced. Car should be good to get its full 630HP on.
Oh yes, it's happening.

Well, it's taken several years of planning and saving but our garage project is finally about to start. Our contractor team came to our house and went over final plans with us this week and should be breaking ground this month. We're doing a 40' wide and 26' deep detached building that will have 3 bays and room along the back wall for a work bench.
This is the big step that has to happen before I invest in any kind of nice / expensive / performance car and finishing it up will get me to the step where I am actively saving for the down payment on the car. Once I hit 20% of the vehicle cost (which will be my down payment) it will be "go" time.
I'll take some before and after pics and post them because it is going to be a pretty radical transformation of the space (which is now a sloped and tree covered natural area).

Kudos to him for taking on such an ambitious project. If he manages to bring the car all the way back in his garage on his budget, it'll be one of the most impressive achievements I've ever seen from the amateur auto enthusiast community.

Yeah, a vehicle requiring you to avert your eyes from the road to adjust HVAC and music settings... let's go with no thanks on that one. My guess is the "no buttons" thing in cars is a fad and it'll get axed eventually. I like touch interfaces for a lot of things, but this isn't one of them. Very convenient for stuff you throw in a pocket or a backpack and twiddle on occasionally, though. Sign me up for the old man club, too.
I definitely want to see the garage, too. I'm about to rent my first house in probably more than 20 years and move in with my lady, and this place has a one car garage that, were I buying, would almost certainly get converted to house a couple of them and probably some shop space, too. I'm pretty stoked on the new pad as is, since it has a yard with gardening space, an unfinished basement, a back patio and a single car garage. Finally actual space, gonna make it put in work.
