By zfzmikey Go To PostI was being tongue in cheek, talking about the switch in Oregon.I found this handy guide this morning on the PCA website. The nice thing about the GTS is that it was only made from 2008 - 2010 which was right at the tail end of the 1st gen production and those are the more desirable cars for a variety of reasons. https://www.pca.org/news/2017-03-17/model-guide-first-generation-cayenne-2003-10
But, no, you used to sit in your warm or cool car while someone took your card and then pumped your gas.
I see so many around here too, kicking around with clearly 150k+ miles.
We'll see if I can convince the wife to sell the horse trailer for a bumper pull so we can also finally sell our Tundra. Would make a Cayenne + bumper pull pretty achievable.
Definitely don't need it to be speedy, but the extra towing power from the GTS would be nice.

I drove the old facelifted (MJ2009) Cayenne S for almost 6 years (loved it) but sold it last year after getting something a little sportier plus i didn't need the big trunk anymore.
If you have any questions i'll answer them gladly. :)
The difference between the 1st gen (non-facelift) Cayenne S and the facelifted S is almost neglectiale. It was still basically the same car with a different bodywork plus the fuel injection changed. Performanc-wise it didn't make a difference. The GTS (only facelifted available) did everything a bit better and (for me very important) looked better since it shares the front-bodywork with the turbo and turbo S. All S and GTS models share the same NA 4.8l engine (wonderful sound) and are hungry when driven hard.
Be sure to get one with a 100l tank for enhanced enjoyment before having to drive to a gas station to pump gas YOURSELF! ;)
I never had any real problem with my S. One thing to watch out for are the stainless steel skid plates (front and rear) since the parts that are holding the plates corrode over time. Better to check if a potential car has them.
Furthermore i would not recomment getting a V6 Cayenne. They aren't fun. The engine is simply not powerful enough to move that kind of weight adequately.
I haven't driven the V6, just the diesel but I'd advise avoiding that one as well. That guy's too big for anything less than a twin turbo V6 or a decent size V8 (AKA the S model and up.) The added torque of the diesel makes it take off from stoplights pretty good but highway passing just isn't anywhere near where it needs to be. Great gas mileage though.
A NA V6 is only really good for compact and smaller SUVs and even then it better be at least 285HP and have good torque.
Then again, you might not want to listen to me. I think most of America's most popular SUVs are too damn slow, including the Rav4, CRV, CX-5, X1... you get the idea.
My feeling on SUV acceleration is you figure out what it takes to be able to pass and merge relatively trouble free with 4 adults and a bunch of rec gear in/on the car, what size you need to fit that stuff and do the math accordingly, gas mileage be damned.

Thanks all! Not too concerned about speed, this is a 3rd car/beater/tow rig. If I want fast I'll drive the M5 or Chall SRT8 :)
Lucky for me, there's an amazing German specialist shop in town too, so I think if I find one that's been well maintained, I can go fairly high on mileage too.
The main thing I need to find out is if the manual alters the tow rating at all. Would be sad to go auto.

I've never actually seen a 4C in person before. Guessing they're pretty neat looking though.
I saw a loaded black current gen Turbo S today, for probably the first time. I've never seen anything appear and disappear that fast in my lifetime, but then the guy drove the thing like a freaking maniac. Was kind of mind boggling watching him make the Mercedes disappear.

By BubbaKrumpz Go To PostSaw a 4C up close today. Pictures don’t do that car justice at all.Yeah those little things are miniature automotive works of art. I wish I could justify a pure, hardcore sports car like that for my next car purchase but I can't. One of those (probably a 4C Spyder) would definitely have a place in my dream garage though.

I snapped some pics but imgur is trash to upload photos.
Went to the little auto show they have here and got to sit in the CTR. It feels really solid. The red interior is actually not bad and flows well. My gf really liked it and says we should get that down the road. My gf also really liked the rc350 and tlx a-spec. Surprised by how well the tlx looks and feels.
My parents are driving up from San Diego and my mom sent me a picture of a Pagani Zonda and a McLaren 720s driving about.
Anytime i see an Alfa Romeo Gulia I'm either on the move or it's parked somewhere far. Shame because I really do wanna see that car up close.
The 4C is a rare example of an American model looking better than the European counterpart...because those Euro headlights are fucking ugly as sin.

But, no, you used to sit in your warm or cool car while someone took your card and then pumped your gas.
Sounds like pretty bad business, no opportunity to sell junk from the counter if they dont come to pay.
As long as there isn't a line you can just pay, lock the car and go get your stuff while they fill the tank for you. It's kind of nice, actually. Plus the pump almost always has a card slot on it, anyway.
Yap. Or sit in your warm car while it's well below freezing out.
Jokes aside, all the places I fill up at still have attendants. Haven't actually had to pump my own gas yet.

In NJ you can't fill your own gas...but I still did. LOL.
I'd get out of the car quick, and get to the pump before the attendants can get there. Put the pump inside the tank, and wait for the attendant to come up to punch in his code (if he has to). I don't let them touch my cars, because I see them pull those nozzles out and spill gasoline on the car.
Nope.

Can someone explain why do US models have those weird rubber things on the rear bumper?

5MPH crash compliance.
Tandem drift car refueling is some seriously crazy stuff. That dude has balls of steel to be willing to hang out a window like that.
In other news, all these articles about the G-Wagon are making me remember the Mercedes truck and reminding me that they should have just chopped a G-Wagon, extended the wheelbase a bit and put a bed on it instead. No idea what they're thinking with that one. I guess it's probably a bit cheaper that way, but not by much.

That image confuses me for some reason. My mind keeps trying to see three different types of vehicles and it just makes me go "huh?".
Saw a black CTR on my commute today... and it definitely does look decent in black coz the shenanigans(fake vents, etc.) are all "hidden" by the paint.
Then on the way home, I was trudging along a FoRS in stop and go traffic.
Now I just need to see a mk7 Golf R on my commute and it'll be complete lol.

Of course the town where I work is mostly either pick up trucks or german luxury cars (if you belong to one of the many doctors or lawyers) so stuff like the FoRS is very uncommon.

NHTSA lists crash test data for 2018 Mazda6 with all-wheel driveAbout time. They need to introduce a new higher horsepower engine with it though.
^Fuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
Good luck man!
Been trying myself to get into Toyota’s HQ here in Dallas but they apparently outsource most of their marketing so there’s no need for an internal photographer/videographer at their HQ. :(

Lol! Pay is alright and I’m mostly doing it because I want to go back to school and my current job doesn’t allow for that.
Jalopnik posting those rally videos today is dangerous...
I really really want to turn my GTI to a rally car now lol.
I'm super tempted to buy some Rokblokz and save up for rally white fifteen52 Tarmacs...

They posted about a guy who rallied his gti a while ago. I love rally, I wish I could do it but my gti is the only car I got.
By reilo Go To PostAbout time. They need to introduce a new higher horsepower engine with it though.Isn't it getting the turbo 4 that makes like 227hp and 310 pound ft of torque? It's no BMW 340i xDrive but it is a step in the right direction.
Being the enthusiast that I am I (like most of you, probably) spend a lot of time thinking about, reading about, watching videos of and daydreaming about cars. It's honestly one of my favorite hobbies. And hopefully within the next 2 years I will be able to find the (nearly) perfect next car for me and have a great, secure garage space to park it in (our construction meeting with the contractor should be next week!).
But as I'm still driving my 2008 MX-5 as often as possible it strikes me that there is a vast difference in what I want and what I actually need. In reality, the MX-5 does nearly everything I need a car to do (which is get me back and forth to work and have enough room for light grocery getting once in a while) and at this point is probably worth quite a bit less than $10k. The MX-5 is small, cheap, reliable, efficient and fun but of course, I want more. A lot more.
And there may be some self justification going on here but I don't think it is just greed in me wanting more. I have a list of requirements for a vehicle that will hopefully blend some of the best parts of the MX-5 (agile, responsive, great handling, fun to drive) with some of the best parts of our Lexus GX (refined and luxurious) with a few new qualities thrown in that I don't currently have access to (like a great stereo, powerful acceleration and a dual clutch gearbox). Oh and the seats. The seats have to be awesome for my long-legged self which is probably the biggest failing of the MX-5 for me.
So it isn't so much that I particularly want to spend a ton of money on a car or that I even want to buy a certain make and model because of it's brand name. It's just that even though my actual needs are simple, my wants (my "wishlist for the nearly perfect vehicle") are so much greater. And that brings me to this question for anyone who cares to answer and has put some thought in to it; what does your "wishlist" vehicle look like? What's your ideal "next" car?
I still don't know what mine is yet but then again I have plenty of time. I have a list (and definitely the Macan GTS is stil on that list) and will continue to refine that list as I see what develops over the next year but at this point, anything could still happen.

My ideal car would basically be a RWD GTI.
6MT, RWD, decent power while also being fuel efficient and can carry a family as well as stuff when needed.
The closest to that is probably a 3 series but I also want some semblance of reliability and a low cost of ownership.
And tbh I think the GTI is the perfect car for me as a daily driver and I can see myself dailying a GTI until I die. But I might take a dip in the world of Porsche’s next if possible... I still want to daily a 911 for shits and giggles lol.

By jongkookie Go To PostMy ideal car would basically be a RWD GTI.Yeah a RWD GTI would be pretty much perfect, wouldnt it? And it seems like no matter what car it is they all have one or two things that keep them from being truly perfect so in the end it comes down to which one does the best job of compromising.

My next ideal car will be RWD, Coupe, V8, and either German or British. Not sure about transmission, I feel like that'll almost be out of my hands. I'll also find it possibly acceptable to get AWD if it has a severe RWD bias. We'll see.
Yeah, ima agree with Jong that my ideal car would be a rwd gti. I don’t mind fwd as much due to the gti just being kinda fun to drive around and fwd cars have gotten much better imo but rwd is a million times better.
I also don’t mind dct transmissions at all so I’m pretty open to any car as long as it’s reliable. The CTR would definitely foot the bill if it weren’t for how outlandish it looks but even then I would choose it over a Golf R if I had the money.

Sadly, no such thing as a RWD GTI exists. Probably the closest thing available in the US is an E400 wagon, and those are way expensive. It's really a damn shame we never got the RS4 wagon, because those things are dope as hell.
Particularly the second gen one with the 420 HP V8
My car ticket is probably thoroughly punched for quite a while, but in a couple years a cheap used skate sized truck is still in the offing. I had to settle for 2 vehicles: one to haul stuff and the other to haul ass.

Good topic Matman.
I think it's pretty much impossible to get the perfect car. For me, the two (or three if you're a family/couple) car approach is the way to go. Utility vehicle, wife's vehicle, and my vehicle. About the only thing I'd consider getting rid of my M5 for is a 911, likely a 997 S. But of course being an obsessed auto guy, I'm sure that can change.
List of things:
Backseat large enough for 2x40lb dogs and/or carseat
Manual
Great steering feel
V8 if front engine, 6 if mid or rear, NA preferred but not totally necessary
Rear wheel drive
Space enough for 1-2 bags of groceries
If things go to plan, it'd be nice to have 4 cars sometime in the nearish future.
1) Winter beater/some utility (Macan, Evo X, GLA45, F-Pace, 1st gen X1 35i M-Sport)
2) My car for nice weather (911)
3) Wife's DD (Her Challenger)
4) Tow rig/Utility (Diesel truck)

They did. Upper models now have a turbo-4. Makes 250HP and 310TQ. That with AWD + tunes might see Evo and STi owners slowly migrating over to Mazda.

Wow, they fixed the ugly!
These basically Lemans/F1 type project cars are interesting from an engineering standpoint, for sure. Nifty, but also less practical that a Ferrari 488GTB. I often wonder who they're for since you need a racetrack and the proper experience for them to be worth anything at all.
I was going to bring up the Mercedes A45 as another fun car we don't get here as an upmarket GTI, but then those are FWD. Killer hyper hatches though. And I have no idea how the GLA45 qualifies as an SUV, at all.

By BubbaKrumpz Go To PostGot the job at Toyota as a driver 😎Congrats! I have a lot of respect for Toyota as a manufacturer and their "kaizen" method. They may be best known these days for mostly boring cars but stuff like the GT86 and LC500 (as well as the LFA from a few years back) show that they still know how to make a proper driver's car. I hope the job treats you well!
