I wish the lower center console was just physical controls.
And, yeah, Porsche does have a MyScreen feature where you can create your own screens using controls/elements like contacts, messages, time, temperature, music, etc. The screen is in a grid format and each control takes up a certain portion of the grid. The same control can have different layouts depending on what size grid version of it you are using. Music and contacts are key examples. They have layouts that take up the whole grid (let's say 2x3, though I don't remember exactly), or partials of the grid like 1x2, 2x1, 2x2, etc.
It uses a drag-and-drop interface to create them. On the 2019 Cayman, you can have up to three custom screens setup like this. You swipe to change between them.

Do y'all think Porsche would offer an employee/fam&friends discount on the Taycan when it comes out?

If you wish to cry at the cost, the configurator is now live:

I made a really awesome Turbo S that was Carmine Red for like 220K.

How else am I supposed to own these?!
But no, really, if I had the money, I'd go for a Singer 911. This craftsmanship is dumb good.

Taycan looks great. But they missed the mark on a number of claims, such as range and charge time. Also the price is crazy. Didn't they say the car will start at $65K as the entry model? Why not debut that, as well? EV people don't necessarily care about specs and performance (which the Tesla seems to be better at anyway). A ~$70K Taycan announcement would've been a great way to eat at Tesla's Model S shoppers.
Idk about this, personally. It'll probably sell well. But when Tesla refreshes the Model S and 3, Porsche will be further behind.

Never heard $65k, always heard $90k+ for the entry-model. Makes sense to go for the higher-end model for the margins alone, since that car never goes unsold for them. Even the Panamera starts at $86k. $65k for the Taycan would be nuts -- that's Boxster/Cayman prices.
Also, Tesla has shown zero indication of refreshing the Model S. Musk has said time and time to not expect a refresh. Maybe we'll see a new model soon, but thus far zero leaks or indication about it. Don't be surprised if they drop it.

Isn't everyone behind Tesla when it comes to their electric motor efficiencies? Going to take a while before people catch up.
It's a bit of an uneven comparison. The Taycan has a 93kWh battery up to a 280 mile range, whereas the equivalent Model S that has a 90kWh battery and a 270-290mile range. They're close.
People comparing it to the 100kWH 370 mile range of a P100D are a bit disingenuous. I imagine Porsche will also improve upon that number -- they are kings of the refresh cycle.
One thing is for sure though: I don't expect body panels to fall off in the rain or the door handles to stop working and body panels to be misaligned in the Taycan.

“We’re expecting a price somewhere between a Cayenne and a Panamera,” Robert Meier, Taycan model line director, told Automotive News Europe. Meier is referring to the German market, which puts the base price between the Cayenne's 74,828 euros and Panamera's 90,655 euros there. Considering the same figures for the American market puts the number between $65,700 and $85,000.
Entry level is going to be priced around ~75K-ish, likely.

This, and even if it weren't true the Turbo S is bristling with standard performance gear and optional goodies the Model S simply doesn't have. Stock, it's got 10 piston carbon ceramic brakes, 4 wheel steering, 305 section summer tires on the back and a 2 speed auto transmission plus a way more sophisticated battery cooling scheme. The brake regen max is also like double the G load and I'd imagine the ediff is probably much more complicated too. The fact that it charges much faster and has a significantly higher charge ceiling is great as well.
That's before you option on all the other stuff you expect a luxury car to have that the Tesla just doesn't like heated cooled and massaging seats and all the other wacky stuff like the 10 inch passenger screen.
It's pretty damn obvious why the Porsche is more expensive and they'll definitely be able to make a case for it at the dealership.
By Christberg Go To PostIt's pretty damn obvious why the Porsche is more expensive and they'll definitely be able to make a case for it at the dealership.
It's really not. It's overpriced comparatively and including what you just posted.
Which is fine, the Taycan is probably going after a different market of consumer.
Oh, it's overpriced, alright. They've got a whole pile of R&D to recoup, profit margins to maintain and Tesla doesn't at this point on the Model S. It's a very old, very mature design. Doesn't mean they can't justify the cost difference here though, via exclusivity and features. Once you get north of 100K you're looking at halo car stuff and Porsche markets to that crowd better than most.
The Model S is in dire need of an obvious refresh. Too many of them on the road now, and it's lost a lot of its luster as an exclusive vehicle.

But it's not overpriced for a Porsche. Porsche shouldn't be chasing Tesla -- that's not their endgame, at all. They got bigger fish to fry and are looking a decade into the future, and not trying to be price competitive with a relatively new entrant in the luxury car manufacturer segment that does all the luxury stuff substandard.
Also, a fully loaded P100D is over $130k new. Now that's insanity.

TOKYO — Nissan Motor Co was embroiled in another scandal over executive pay on Thursday after Chief Executive Hiroto Saikawa admitted to being overpaid in violation of internal procedures under a scheme designed by ousted Chairman Carlos Ghosn.Ghosn apparently even got the Japanese CEOs in on it.
An internal investigation found that Saikawa and other executives had received improper compensation, a source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters, raising doubts about Saikawa's pledge to improve governance in the wake of Ghosn's arrest last year for alleged financial misconduct.

Porsche isn't going after Tesla, if they really wanted to make a cheaper car or go after Tesla they would have taken a completely different approach. But you just know the Taycan will have better quality and handle better. Just because it's a damn Porsche.
Also, a fully loaded P100D is over $130k new. Now that's insanity.
This is Porsche wanting to set a benchmark for all the others to try to beat.
The biggest problem are the charging stations as I see it.
Charging infrastructure is problem #1 for anyone entering the EV space. Tesla is far ahead of everyone but even they are woefully insufficient. It's a longterm problem that just needs time and better tech.
The Taycan represents the first of many Porsche EV. New Macan and 718 are both going electric. 992 is getting hybrid variant. The infrastructure will improve. Every Porsche dealer in the country is spending millions installing superchargers. VW is investing billions in Electrify America, a network that is growing every week.
These things are gonna sell like hotcakes. People that value build/material quality and driving dynamics will pay the premium over Tesla. I've already got 3 Turbo and 1 Turbo S builds submitted today and I'm 1 of 10 sales people at our dealership.

Pretty much what Evo X said.
I don't have specific numbers coz I don't work in sales but from talking to some in sales, it's been a hectic 2 days.
Also it's probably common knowledge but I've noticed that most, if not all, Porsche buyers don't skimp on the options. In a way, I agree that it's overpriced but the customers themselves don't help erase this notion and that imo gives Porsche the ability to charge a bit more. But on the other hand, buying a Porsche just feels fucking special. I've had the chance to observe a couple of deliveries and my god, they treat you like a fucking king or queen... it's pretty damn cool and makes me really want to buy one(even tho I probably won't get the same experience coz they know me lmao).

Speaking of Porsche EV investments:
Porsche and Rimac are strengthening their ties, as Porsche ups its stake in the Croatian electric supercar company to 15.5%. That’s up from the 10% stake Porsche snagged over a year ago. The larger stake in the company points to Porsche’s confidence in what Rimac is doing, and its desire to be partners going forward. Timing for this announcement couldn’t be a happy coincidence, as Porsche just revealed its first fully electric car earlier this week.Happy for my Croatian brethren
By rossonero Go To PostCould you elaborate on that? I want to dream a little bit.
Lol, ymmv of course but it starts with a phone call, saying your car is here.
The car gets detailed and looking sparkly clean, a staff photographer comes in and takes a few glamour shots when it's in the delivery bay, hands it to the salesperson who will email or text the photos to you 30mins to an hour before you get there. The car gets covered and roped off after that and is only unveiled once you get there.
There's no red carpet but once you arrive, you're escorted to the car and the cover gets removed while the staff photog is taking pictures as all of this is happening. Those pics get posted on social media(if you allow them of course) and shared to you when the editing is done. After you finalize the paperwork with finance, the salesperson will go through every nook and cranny of the car with you, so right before you leave you pretty much will know every single detail about your car.
So you'll know what each button does, hidden features, answer any question you have, adjust the height of the liftgate to your choice... stuff like that. And if the customer is a lady, you get flowers too... dudes, well you get a cool car I guess? Lol. Also on top of all of this, you get access to dealer amenities like free expensive ass coffee(that the employees technically aren't allowed to get lol), cereal/m&ms/snacks, or if you love sugar you have an unlimited supply of Coca Cola products within reach.
Anyway, after all that you finally get to go home and drive it. About a week or two later, the salesperson will email you a simple how's it going, any questions, blah blah blah, and a link to all the pictures that were taken that day.
That's pretty much it.
There are obviously caveats to this tho, so if this is your second purchase or so then the photography shenanigans usually don't happen unless you bought a really cool car or ask for it. Of course you can also refuse the photography shenanigans and skip all the extra stuff if you want.
The coolest one was a delivery of a 911 Carrera T a few weeks ago. Customer was an older dude driving a 996 as his daily and bought the T to replace the 996 but the coolest thing is that the salesman he bought it from is one of the instructors at the local PCA and offered the customer a track driving lesson with the 996 at the next PCA meet. I dunno if it happened already tho as I don't keep up with their events but either way, that's a pretty damn cool offer imo and I'd definitely take it if it was offered to me.
And for like the first 3-4 months, the company sends you just little knick-knacks and stuff about the car through mail once a month or so. They also send you the Porsche magazine "Christophorus" which is honestly pretty nice to flip-through.
When I was getting my Cayman serviced for a recall notice at a local dealership (not the one I bought it from), they certainly treated me amazingly. Free drinks and snacks, of course. They also let me sit in a mid-aughts GT3 RS on the showfloor. Some guy in Baton Rouge had apparently bought it and mostly just kept it in a warehouse so it was nearly brand new quality. Definitely felt much more like a race car than a sports car.
e: i still get a kick out of how the ignition key is in the shape of the car; it's just a really nice touch that makes me smile everytime i see it

On the topic of EV range:
Will be curious to see how Teslas are going to hold up in the used market five years from now versus other EVs.
Audi took the time to explain to me what non-Tesla EVs are bringing to the table
Essentially, the diagrams they sent over of the Audi E-Tron suggest that it’s built to handle some serious abuse. And in some ways, range had to be compromised to ensure long-term durability
Take, for instance, the cooling system. The E-Tron individually monitors and cools individual battery pack modules to keep them between 74-95 degrees Fahrenheit. If one of them has a problem, you can also replace a module without having to mess with the whole pack
But a 5kWh battery difference doesn’t nearly explain a 166-mile range deficit. Cooling, aerodynamics and weight obviously contribute, but the biggest factor is that Audi does not let you access the full battery. The E-Tron automatically walls off 12 percent of its battery, leaving you with an 83.6 kWh usable pack.https://jalopnik.com/why-no-one-is-beating-teslas-range-1837952903

I wonder if any Tesla batteries have started to swell from users not using the optional charge wall but still driving the car hard and often.

😂oh Tesla
Who knows what else they did
This clearly isn't a stock Model S P100D, though. Up front, the lower grille opening has been enlarged, probably to improve cooling for the motors and batteries. It has subtle fender flares at each corner to house much wider wheels and tires. Our spy photographer says the tires were Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, which are semi-slick competition tires that are street legal. At the back is a fairly pronounced lip spoiler.Who sends a modified car to claim a road car title 😂
While there's nothing wrong with running a modified car at the Nürburgring, the problem here is that the Porsche Taycan was driven in a stock form.

I guess it’s some sort of high performance prototype chassis upgrade. So as is, means nothing since the Taycan was stock other than a race spec seat.
