Going to LA next month and am I crazy for wanting to rent a manual tranny car for the weekend I'm there?
I'm looking at Turo and a couple of cars are calling my name like a Fiesta ST, Ecoboost Mustang, BRZ, Civic Type R...
I'm sorta hesitating coz I've been through LA's traffic and it's a goddamn nightmare(especially coming from LAX to downtown where I'll be staying). I'm also going to be in town for a music convention/concert so parking might be an issue as I'd rather not walk home at night lol.
I was there last year, same time and same reasons, and I managed to survive just by Lyfting a lot. But part of me does kinda want to rent out a car just in case I'd rather be somewhere else.
I hope you went to that Hawaiian barbecue place in that shopping strip. I live so far away from it these days that I haven't gone in a long time but that's one of my favorite places to go grab a bite if I'm in the area.

By Kibner Go To PostSaw this McClaren when getting a bite to eat.

I haven't actually eaten there, yet. I'll see if maybe I can try it in the next week or two. Have leftovers from this weekend and then QuakeCon this week, so it may be a few days.
LA traffic fucking sucked when i was there, glad to have had an auto. Can only imagine how many ruined clutches that place has claimed
Yeah, when I was there last year it took me almost 2 hours to get to my hotel in downtown from LAX.
I still might do a rental but probably just a cheapass econobox unless Turo has something nice with an automatic lol.
Definitely try it out. The Loco Moco or whatever it was with the burger patty and egg on top is legitimately amazing.

Do you have free time? Like an opportunity to dive up PCH and through Malibu canyon? If so, manual could be fun. If not, and you’re just getting from A to B, get an auto
Chances are you'll be behind a bunch of slow ass moving rented convertible Mustangs in Malibu canyon to enjoy the manual anyhow.
Early morning drive as the sun comes up should be empty on a weekend. He's east coast so 6Am should feel pretty late to him., but yeah there's still a chance he'll hit traffic there too depending on the time he goes and direction.
You could always do A Mount Baldy run through Azusa canyon too if you have a half a day blocked out. No traffic there and lots of turns and good views of the valley.

Guys...I landed a STEAL for my 370Z and it was total dumb luck.
Woke up Saturday and saw a Nismo S-Tune exhaust for sale $450, had 80k miles on it. So I jumped on it, guy lives 160 miles away, but I'd just so happen to be going there this week (Palm Beach). So I said I'd pick it up.
Somebody messages me shortly after and says he has a Nismo exhaust and will be in Orlando shortly and he could drop it off. Same price, but has 20K miles on it. I realized that the original post I saw was an ACTUAL S-Tune exhaust, which I'm not a big fan of (y-pipe is a little restrictive) and the guy who contacted me had an actual Nismo exhaust from a Nismo 370Z. Factory Nismo exhausts have an x-pipe section in the middle, ditching the y-pipe, which makes better power. Both are actually very expensive exhausts new.
The Nismo usually sells used for like $800. I scooped it up for $450. I'm pretty pumped about that.

Nice! Hope it keeps or makes that distinctive VQ sound, I honestly get the urge to get one everytime I hear a Z or G on the road lol.
I'm thinking about doing this tbh. I should be free Sunday morning, so I was thinking of maybe heading down to Malibu to grab brunch, enjoy the sights, then get back to downtown LA around 6PM for a concert. I'd love to go stereotypical and grab a convertible for this but eh, I might just grab any kind of cheap rental I can find especially if reilo is spot on lol.
I don't really have a set schedule for this trip. All I have is a place to stay, a registration for the convention I'm going to, and then tickets for a 2-night concert at the Staples. Everything else is literally gonna be a on-the-spot decision and I'm only doing it this way coz I spent my entire weekend at the convention last year and I fucking hated it besides some events that I couldn't miss.

I mean ... for a short day, I woukd probably get an auto convertible and drive up / down PCH. Like from Malibu to Laguna. Eat some good Mexican on the way. Stop at random spots and take pictures. If you got time drive it back and if not do freeways. It’s a really cool drive, albeit long one with signals. Lots too look at though.
I'll actually be there for like 3-4 days.
I get in Friday in the morning, and leave Monday at night. The concerts I'm going to start at 8PM on Sat/Sun, so I actually do have a lot of time to do whatever.
So far Malibu/PCH, Griffith Observatory at night if possible, Petersen, people watch at Venice beach, and eat tons of food are on the agenda lmao.

Griffith Observatory is wonderful. Don't get there at night, get there just before sunset or sunrise. Watching the colors change across the landscape of the city is amazing.

Yeah, it should sound great. My car also doesn't have cats on it and sounds better than stock. The exhaust is definitely the one thing they fucked up on the 370Z compared to the 350Z. But I blame the displacement and high redline. Throws everything off.
This is neat: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a28482314/electric-ford-f-150-prototype-million-pound-payload/

Electric F-150 towing 1,000,000 pounds.
Electric motors are the most efficient mechanical motor on the planet. How long can it haul 10K pounds though? Can I tow my boat to Lake Mead from LA without charging?
This is the dumbest thing I've ever read.
A. If there's a generator on site, it's to supplement temp power for other trades. IE, they're not just paying around. They're being used.
B. No site owner / GC is going to let some sub foreman / general forman charge their trucks all day long. Regardless if it's temp from the city or gen power. Both cost money.
For what it's worth, there's generally no shortage of industrial generators on construction sites, which might be advantageous to an enterprising owner of an EV pickup.

Once it gets moving it's not really a problem. Having correct gearing would be the most important. Realy need to have a breakthrough with battery packs.
By Facism Go To PostFender has a boat.
I will very soon if my job profit doesn't take a nosedive in it's final months. Should everything work out, I'll get a pretty damn large bonus next year at the same time I get my tax returns at the same time my wife and I get paid three times instead of 2 in a month. When / if it happens I will post pictures. Boating is one of lifes great pleasures. Don't care if it's a lake, river or ocean.

Not really. My Tahoe can get 22-25 MPG on long desert drives with the engine kicking into 4 cylinder. It will never kick into 4 cylinders when towing and the load kills off the line. Towing I'll be happy to get 10-14 mpg depending on grade and wind.
I’ll likely never own a sports car.
A. California mortgage
B. A Panamera or S Class AMG are way out of my price range. Probably because of A.
C. I like comfort. My lower back is better now that I’ve dropped a bunch of weight, but I’m getting old. Lol I’m not even sure I can fit in a Panamera. The Macan Turbo my bro had was way too small lol.

Yeah the boat I would get will be used and in the 23’ range in size. They’re still a luxury in the sense that it’s purely for pleasure and represents some disposable income, but shits relative. You can get an old river boat with a jet drive for weekends and it will cost you less than Smokey’s TV.
Jag.
Also my back hurts after two hours in my Tahoe with lumbar support full lol. The remodel kinda ducked me up.

If you want to just take it on a lake jus get jet drive style boat like a seadoo or a stern drive style like a colbalt for a small family. Get used if you are cost conscious. Just know that a boat is purely a luxury buy. You will sink money into it like crazy. One thing I will say is that your kids will love you for it. The memories most vivid in my life are boat days. Nothing is better than the sound of water to relieve stress.

I want a boat because of growing up with one as a kid. I loved water skiing and wake boarding. Kinda want a chaparral sunesta deck boat so I can take a family with mine. Like bro/sis or my wife’s.
We’ve always had one in the family, but it’s time I get my own. Borrowing your dads 60k boat isn’t easy lol
