By NinjaFridge Go To PostDo cars in the US have to take a road worthiness test like the MOT?
Not really. A lot of our states are pretty lax with that. Some states like California and New York are a lot more stringent, but in Florida you can register damn near anything. It's why almost all Nissan Skyline GT-Rs are brought through Florida. FL DOT doesn't care it's a Japanese import that's not older than 25 years.
One of the lights above my rear numberplate wasn't working and it was a mark against me. There were a few other problems too but if I had failed because of that light alone I would've lost me mind.
The Porsche dealership was nice as hell when I took the Cayman in for a recall notice. Saw a pristine 2007 GT3RS while waiting. The dealer said some guy bought it new, kept it in a warehouse, and then decided to trade it in towards a newer one. Hadn't even been redlined, yet.
Hmm.... I think I will try out this cable in order to get USB playback in my vehicles since the bluetooth in my phone can be flaky: https://gromaudio.com/wirelinq/
been gone for a minute. Did carbon cleaning on my intake and changed my injectors as #2 had failed. small leak coming from the water pump so that'll be next on the fix list. will probably be passing my car onto my sister next year as she's heading off to college. Thinking of either picking up a Veloster N or CTR by the end of 2020 but we'll see.
I'd love to get an electric car but I don't have the money for a model 3, which i don't really like, and all other EVs are pretty bummy.

Yeah, still not quite there for a good mass-market EV.

Getting an estimate for ceramic coating on the Cayman today. Also a quote for something called GlassParency. It requires some (free) maintenance every three month, but should act like permanent RainX.

The latest report from Auto Express claims the following G80 M3 details:
Debuts in September at Frankfurt Auto Show (presumably the concept G80 M3)
Our info has production beginning in 2020
Entry level models will develop 480bhp, while the more powerful "Competition" flagship will produce 510bhp
Our info indicates three models and power levels - 444hp (Pure model), 475hp ("base" model), and 500hp (Competition model)
Selectable four-wheel-drive system like the M5, allowing the driver to send all of the engine's power to the rear wheels
Our info indicates some versions will have RWD, others xDrive; both manual and automatic transmissions will be available
Lighter and more agile due to adoption of BMW’s new CLAR platform

Saw one in Costa Mesa the other day. Good looking car. Looks like only a short person can fit in it.
So my s/o’s uncle bought a CTR last year and kept it pretty much stock other than an exhaust. He recently went stage 1 and the car is fucking ridiculous. Crazy amount of wheelspin. He gave me a chance to drive it and it took me a while to get accustomed to it but once I got the throttle down it was a whole different beast and a lot of fun. He’s gonna be getting new tires, wheels, and upgrading mounts so that should definitely help put the power down.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostWhat's a CTR? :|I assume a Ruf CTR? At least, that is what google gave me when I searched for "ctr car".
Edit: Civic Type-R?
Highly unlikely. RUFs don't exist in the US and nobody mods them because they are beyond expensive cars.
I'm pretty sure it's Civic Type-R. I checked the forums and a lot of people refer to them as that.

I just found out that chalking tires to determine if a vehicle has been parked too long is considered unconstitutional:
I legit would be part of a lawsuit for this. This shit is such a huge money maker scam for any city. Recently SF converted the four-block radius where I work from 8-hour parking limit (free) to a mix of 4-hour parking limit and paid parking. And the ramp-up in parking enforcement since then has been comical. It's purely a revenue-generating scheme.
The unusual decision by a unanimous three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit said chalking tires for purposes of parking enforcement — without a warrant — violated the Fourth Amendment’s bar against unreasonable searches. It reversed a U.S. district court, which had rejected the argument and sent the case back for reconsideration.https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/mich-city-asks-appeals-court-to-reconsider-ruling-on-parking-enforcement-technique/2019/05/06/13984ca8-7045-11e9-8be0-ca575670e91c_story.html
The low-tech method of determining whether someone is parked beyond the posted time limit has been a staple of parking enforcement for decades as well as a stable source of revenue.

Once the favored engine configuration for luxury and high-performance cars, the inline-six suffered a bit when the transverse (east-west) engine configuration became popular during the shift to front-wheel drive cars. The packaging benefits are obvious – no driveshaft or transmission intruding on passenger space or rear differential on cargo volume, plus turning the engine 90 degrees meant the front of the car could be shorter. But the inline-six is slowly, slowly crawling out of near-obsolescence, notably in Volvo, Jaguar-Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz products. Add Mazda to that mix: An investor report first spotted by Jalopnik and confirmed by Mazda reveals that the company is developing a Skyactiv-X and Skyactiv-D inline-six that will be installed longitudinally (north-south) in a new "Large Architecture" platform.
And as we mentioned eariler, they'll be arranged longitudinally, unlike any other Mazda save the MX-5 Miata (and the long-departed rotaries), in a new vehicle architecture. As part of a medium-term plan over the next six years, Mazda will develop some unspecified vehicles on what it calls the "Large Architecture". These vehicles will have 48V mild hybrid and PHEV capabilities, and be able to use a version of Mazda's i-Activ AWD system.
A rear-drive-based, inline-six powered vehicle or family of vehicles would put them in the same premium space that Genesis has tried to break into, and luxury brands like Mercedes, Lexus, and BMW already play in.Oh yess
Weird. Mazda is going to go RWD? Very weird. I wonder if this will be for future hybrids that'll be motor powered for the rear wheels, and front to be electric power.
The MX5 is already RWD and they have RWD DNA with the RX series. Them bringing it back isn't so weird. I imagine the Mazda3/Mazda6 will become AWD standard (Mazda3 now has AWD on their Signature Trim) and these "premium" larger vehicles will go RWD. Much like Hyundai did with the Genesis.
Sure, the Miata has always been RWD. But the RX8 has been out of production for a long time now and typically companies like Mazda stay FWD for packaging reasons (more interior space) and keeping costs low. I hope it pays off for them, but it is a huge risk and I suspect it'll only be for a car or two as an experiment.
Toyota is playing us with the new Supra. I went from being upset with this car to realizing it's pretty damn awesome...just needs an MT. You can watch this, among other videos. But Mat Watson did the first 0-60 and 1/4 mile with it:

The obvious changes are on the exterior. The front fascia is more aggressive with a version of the corporate hexagonal grille. The headlights are more angular on the grille side, and they receive aggressive LED daytime running lights that look like angry eyebrows. Along the flanks there are more exaggerated creases over the wheel arches, another cue borrowed from larger Audis. The new taillights' stylish LED elements reflect the front design.
The interior is mostly unchanged from the previous model, but it does get a new infotainment system. The old Audi interface with a big rotary knob is gone in favor of a touchscreen. The screen does feature audible feedback. It also appears to have a similar layout to the dual-screen system in larger Audis.
Three transmissions will be offered worldwide, too, including a six-speed manual, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an eight-speed conventional automatic. One of the engines is an interesting 3.0-liter V6 diesel for the S4 TDI. It makes 341 horsepower, 516 pound-feet of torque and does so with an electrically-driven supercharger. This is made possible with a 48-volt electrical system that also operates a belt-driven starter/alternator that makes it a mild-hybrid.
The new headlights look much improved and closer to the last generation, which I think is a welcome change.

Pretty fucking cool regardless. Mods are gonna take this car into the 11s easily.
Also, I don’t like that front end on the Audi, I think it’s ugly as hell.
Just some of the cars coming to my Cars & Coffee this weekend:
1956 Jaguar XK140
1967 Porsche 911
1986 RUF BTR
R34 Nissan Skyline Spec V-II NUR (this particular car was celebrity owned, you can do your own research)
SuperPerformance Ford GT40
Viper ACR-X
Viper ACR Extreme
AMG GTR
And 25 other exotic cars I have reserved spots for Murcielagos, Aventadors, GTRs, Vipers, Z06s/ZR1s, and some other stuff.
Expecting over 100 cars again. But looks like quality of exotics will be the highest ever.

Jesus Christ 12.3? Seriously underrated. Gonna be running 11s with better tires and light mods.
Tires are not an issue for the car, it's on Michelin Super Sports! So it's got amazing off-the-line traction, as evidenced by the low 12s it's running. But once people JB4 the ECU? It's going to be over - it'll be running 10s and 11s. The VR30TT in the Infiniti Q60 is already running those times with some light mods and it's 600lbs heavier than the Supra and handles nowhere near as well.
I think I'm starting to believe Toyota when they said they wanted to build an amazing handling car and encourage people to mod it. If people are going to mod the hell out of a car's powertrain, why spend money on building one if people will modify it anyway, right? It just needs a damned manual.

I keep seeing Buick commercials and keep wondering who keeps buying them, and apparently China bought 1mil of them in 2015, wtf
China has had an infatuation with Buick for quite a while now. It's single handedly kept the brand alive for GM. Weird as fuck, I know. But they look at boaty barges as pure luxury cars. Including Lincolns.
Speaking of, my brother just got an absolutely fully loaded Lincoln Navigator for the family. Daym. That's all I can say. Easily the best car in its class.
He traded in his Merc GLS550, which was a heap of unreliable shit at 70K miles needing an all new motor, among other never ending issues prior to that. He'll never buy a Benz again LOL. Crazy story behind the engine fiasco, if anybody wants me to detail it out.

Okay, so first let's travel back to about 8 months ago. My brother calls me and is like "hey...my car is shaking when I start it, it's pretty noticeable, even Danny (his son) noticed and asked why is the car shaking?" I told him the most common thing is usually a coil gone bad or about go bad. Take it to the shop. He never did that. Idk. I guess it got better or went away, idk what happened there. He just wanted to get rid of the car and order a Navigator at that point.
So about 8 weeks ago, my best friend went to go get a trade in value on my brother's 2013 GL550 from Lincoln. He's in private car leasing and sales, so this is his job, btw. Anyway, he gets the trade-in from Lincoln, it's something like $29K. He places in the exact order of the Navi my brother wants, and he leaves. As he's driving, he notices a check engine light. Calls my brother and my brother's never seen it. The car seemed to be driving perfectly fine, so they thought it was probably nothing. But my friend took it to his Benz tech at a private shop who scanned the code and it returned a bucket of codes.
So my brother figured if it's driving okay for now, he's going to wait a day or two, get an appointment with Merc and get into a loaner (he has a family of 6, after all). He drops off the car, gets a brand new GLS550 with 6 miles on it, as a loaner. They run all of the diagnostics on their hardware and a lot of the stuff is oil related. But everything they're looking at...is fine. So wtf? 6 weeks have gone by and he's still in this loaner. Put on over 1200 miles on it. The engine has no leaks at the common areas that are easily fixable (like seals and such). Everything looks pretty okay. My brother is fed up with Mercedes and the car, because it's been nothing but a nightmare since they've owned it.
So they tell my brother they'd like to dig deeper into the engine, check turbos, compression testing, among other things. They got low compression readings in a few cylinders. They find stress fractures in them, but in addition to some other things that I don't recall. They tell him the car needs a new engine. Cost? Totaling $35K parts and labor. LMAO. Apparently this jank ass engine costs like $27K brand new. Wtf?
Mind you the car just got a trade-in value of $20K. It's a 6 year old 80K mile GL550. So he's even more livid now, and wondering if they're trying to rip him off? Why did it take so long to figure this out? Etc etc. He tells them no way he's going to pay that for car that isn't worth the money. Asks for the corporate warranty number in order to figure this shit out himself. 8 weeks now, still in the brand new loaner. But Lincoln calls and says "hey! Great news. You're Navi is coming in 3 weeks early! It'll be here on the 16th of May" :|
So he speaks to corporate, explains that this car has been awful since day one, and all the issues it's had. He also told them he's looking to buy a new-body GLS550 or 63AMG, but obviously now the dealer won't take the car as a trade-in for what it's worth. And after numerous back and forths, they told him they'd provide the motor, final sum out of pocket would be: $6600 for parts and labor. He agreed. Got the car fixed up last week, same day as the Navi came in.
Needless to say, he had the car with its new motor for like 2 days, until it was traded away. Moral of the story: Mercs are trash. Even my dad hates his new E-Class.
