Better - it's kind of the same thing but Dark Soulsier. There are a lot of fights that are just whatever after you hit a certain strength (though I haven't tried the hard mode yet) but the Lynel and guardian fights can get pretty intense.

Yes, definitely better. You can actually die if you're careless or don't have a good strategy going into a fight. Choosing the right weapon can make a difference as well.

Some enemies are quite formidable too, even once you're powered up from advancing in the game.
