By Bold 2 in One Go To PostThis game is a case study in why publishers exist.
Sometimes you need suits at the top managing your ambition, otherwise, you fund and fund and fund for nothing
kickstarter is a great for that as well.
you don't give old hacks that got fired for a reason millions without supervision.
I expected nothing from NMS; I knew it was mostly smoke and mirrors. I still came away disappointed that they decided to call it a game and charge full price, and I didn't even buy it. It was that bad, and filled with terrible design decisions on top. There are a dozen better survival games on Steam.
I can safely say Star Citizen today is a better game than NMS.

By Dark PhaZe Go To PostNo Mans Sky 2 will actually release and probably put out a lot of what this game is promising, albeit with worse graphics and a lack of focus on insane tech that's ultimately meaninglessAnd yet is still does next to nothing for me, and I consider myself a proper space sim fan. Some of it is my fault, as I only have time for following the development of one such game, but still. CIG must be doing something right.
Inky, I know the feeling. Again, I'd feel much more disheartened if the ideal "Star Citizen 1.0" is all I wanted from this project. Thankfully it's not. And as much as people like to make fun of the phrase, 'following the game's development is the game' is legit how I feel about it, hehe.
It kind of is. It's just that for me the genre is either barren or not at all what I want from it. So it's disheartening to think "here's this game that gets it, but I'll never play it".
Mass Effect is dead and Bioware sucks ass. The X games are incomprehensible, Rebel Galaxy might as well be a 2D pirate game, and I hate "space truckers" anyway. Osiris is base building survival twitch.tv crap, why oh why is Everspace a roguelike, I refunded Elite, EVE Online (LOL), NMS is garbage. There's nothing, man. Basically, I just want my new Freelancer goddammit, or an FTL RPG. Give me something, video game industry (that is not an RTS or a 4X thing).

Actually, the No Man's Sky approach might not be a bad idea for Star Citizen.
Yes, NMS was not what it could be at launch and it is clear it was not ready for prime time, but a year later after 3 major updates and the game changer that was the Atlas Rising patch, it is night and day from the shell we got at release, so good that ti went to the top of the steam charts.
SC, as it stands, is far too ambitious as a one-shot 60 dollar game.

By Music Man Go To Postif/when this releases, it will be the greatest game ever made. not comma, not semi-colon, PERIOD.Maybe. But it will not release in this decade. Or in the next one.
