What Is It?
The Heroes
Rex
Pyra
Do I Need To Play Xenoblade Chronicles or Xenoblade Chronicles X To Understand Xenoblade Chronicles 2?
No, not really. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a standalone story with new characters, settings and worlds. It shares some similarities with the previous two games in terms of themes and characters races, like the Nopon. Think of it as kind of like Final Fantasy or The Legend of Zelda, each game has had it's own stand alone stories, worlds and characters despite sharing the same franchise name.
When Is It Out?
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 releases world wide on December 1st, 2017 for the Nintendo Switch. There is also a special edition, as well as a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 themed Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

I just added one, not sure why it didn't show up before!

Just feels cheap like they couldn't spend the money on a full new run instead just a few parts. But that's not true because the graphic so it's just... Bad design?

I'm not a fan of decals because I feel like it just takes away from the controller design itself.

The Splatoon one is subtle I think but this one isn't

Really feeling this OT! I adored the first game, but I had an interesting relationship with it. I played a bit, didn't get to the attack on Colony 9. Months later, I decide to just restart, and get all the way to the first Telethia fight. I get stuck, give up for another few months. Come back, somehow beat the Telethia on the first attempt, and then played through the rest of the game. Now it's in my top 3 JRPGs of all time, with Mother 3 and Paper Mario: TTYD (the Nintendo bias is real).
Never got into X sadly, but it's on my list to beat some day, especially if there is a Switch Port.

Xenoblade was my favorite RPG. But X on the other hand, i couldn't get myself to play beyond getting my first skell. What a letdown that was, imo. So, i have high hopes for this one.

I played Xenoblade Chronicles when it came out on the Wii. I got to Valak Mountain and ended up being stuck at the Mumkhar boss fight. I stopped playing it completely. Then when the New 3DS came out with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, I bought that version because I figured it's portable so I'll be more likely to play it. In that version I got to Alcamoth and stopped playing it again (lol).
Then when Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was shown off at the Switch presentation, I was reminded that I never finished the original game. I went back and finished it before the Switch & Breath of the Wild came out. It ended up being one of my favourite games ever, because the gameplay, characters, scope and world were so damn good.
I also have Xenoblade Chronicles X but that game, like you, never clicked with me either... I want to revisit it if they made a Switch port, but I packed up my Wii U so I won't play it anytime soon.
The reveal for this game forced me to finish Xenoblade Chronicles as well as XBX. I liked both games a bit, but I think X was more my flavor. I didn't even like Skells other than using them as a traversal method haha.
I dunno if Chronicles had side stories that delved into the issues X had because I got tired of the side quests in it... For some reason X's world sucked me in more.
Still loved Chronicles though and can't wait for this game.

I still think they should make a "story DLC" for X, or repackage it as a new game on Switch. Keep characters, graphics, environments... just add a decent story (and change the aweful music).
PS: how can you go back to the main entertainment board view? Is it necessary to click the three stripes next to "SL&ENT" in the left top corner every time? Especially after making a post, you just don't click "back" usually.

I’d be down to play that game. Really do hope a Switch port happens.
By joefu Go To PostYessssss can't wait for the direct!same here but hope it isnt like the last one lol. that was pretty damn boring going through all the damn systems
By joefu Go To PostI still can't believe it's coming out in less than a month.I preordered the LE since target had it for $60. And yeah so far Nintendo is taking all my money.
Switch launch year has been insane
Direct was good from what I saw (had it on while driving to work lol)
Japanese voiceover available as a free download. Lots of rare blades. Season pass DLC similar to Zelda's. Rex's outfit in BOTW.
The special edition looks awesome. I also have the $60 target one ordered. I hope it doesn't take too long for it to deliver. Also have an order at Amazon just in case.
Weird this game isn't getting any amiibo. I really hope this game does well.

I didn't watch the direct either but the free update for dual audio is great. $29.99 for a seasons pass is a lot, I imagine it'll be $39.99 in Canada (lol). The Breath of the Wild side quest is great, going to check it out on Thursday.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is also 14GB in size, smaller than Xenoblade Chronicles X was!

I continue to hate the character design of that chick who acts like the main blade of the main character. Why don't they give us an option to change her attire.
By joefu Go To PostI still can't believe it's coming out in less than a month.Yeah, when it first got announced I thought for sure it'd slip since XCX was what sold me on picking up a WiiU and we had to wait for that to finally come, but I'm glad to be wrong, can't wait to play it as soon as my copy of the SE comes.
Switch launch year has been insane
Lol I don't think Target ever had the SE at msrp. They updated the listing to say the SE is $60. https://www.target.com/p/xenoblade-chronicles-2-nintendo-switch/-/A-52161287
Since this thread is dead, can we use it to discuss spoilers and stuff?
Because a certain character is honestly best character and they got even better lol. Also anime power ups/new forms give me life.

I'm chapter 7/lvl 56 right now (yes I'm overleveled af lol) but just some courtesy on the spoiler tags I guess since this game is long as af and the sidequests can be their own beast.
If this didn't have a bunch of technical issues, it'd be a nom for game of the year in my opinion. I can't say enough good things about it. And its funny because I didn't think this was going to be even above average leading through the promotion period. The battle system looked dumb - its probably one of the best ever made. The character design is dumb - but they're actually great... like, people talk about Pyra's H Cups all up in your face but at the same time Morag is one of the best female characters in a JRPG in a loooooong time. The music I thought was average from what little I'd heard - then you get Macross throwbacks and a chorus in one area that makes you remember your undergrad music theory classes. You think the Switch would handicap the locals - but the areas and exploration rivals Xenoblade Chronicles X.
The game is amazingly deep, but at the same time functional and efficient at damn near every level. Its as complicated as you want it to be, and appropriately rewarding for that extra investment as well.
Its a fantastic game and I've been unable to put it down. Even though the Switch's controls are offputting as all hell.
If you're into JRPGs and believe in system sellers along with having some extra holiday money to blow.... this is it. A+ game even with the technical issues. I never complain about them normally, and most have been patched out, but I think I'd be disingenuous to not bring them up even though they don't bother me in games typically.

The game is even better if you are invested in past Xenogears and Xenosaga works with parallels and throwbacks, trying to tie the lore together in Xenoblade 2. Dy you should take a break, and play Xenoblade 1 some how before finishing through. Xenoblade 2 takes place concurrently at the same time as the first one leading up to the climax.
I wasn't exaggerating when I dropped my thoughts the beginning of the month.

Yeah, the exploration is great. While not as open, you can wander off and just discover a bunch of crap. It's so goood. The combat is just so much better than previous Xenoblade games. I can't get over at how much I actually enjoy these fights.
I honestly think the character design complaints are way overblown. The only person I've had an issue with was that stupid Dhalia.... she was the first rare blade I pulled too lol.
Music is freaking amazing too. Yasunori Mitsuda is a gawd. I think it's actually fair to give him credit as I think he was the overall producer for the music. ACE and all them are great, but man... MItsuda is just so good.

Probably around 100 hours done. I probably spend 2, 3 hours at a time with it, and usually I'll just go salvaging for fun.
Also doesn't include leaving it on, watching a movie while waiting for my mercs to finish their missions.
Honestly though, I'm surprised I'm not burnt out by this yet. Gonna take some time just exploring, trying to finish subquests and treasures and shit until I can't anymore, then move on to the story.
You never played XB1 Dy? I hope you have a comp that can run Dolphin and XB1 well lol. I think the only reason I beat it was because I played it on an emu. That game didn't grab me like XBX did. I had to cheat to beat XB1 because I felt lazy and didn't really want to play that ugly mess lol. I'm not a pirate, i own the WIi disc!
Not sure how I'm not burned out either tbh. I thought I was done with side questing, but somehow I just spent the last 3 hours doing some. I wanted to move forward with the story, but yeah...

What did yall settle on, dub or sub? For me, I kept flipping between the two, but settled on the dub. I think I'll play NG+ subbed. I'm looking forward to NG+ despite not beating the game yet lol. I think I saw that it's going to let you use "those blades"

Would be nice if Xenosaga got some HD remakes. Wasn't too into RPGs when those games dropped. And I only remember watching bits and pieces of Gears when my older bro was playing it.
Did you finish chapter 7? Because wew. Probably my favorite chapter so far.
