Does anybody have any hopes and expectations for the first ever home console RPG version of Pokemon that's being developed for the Switch? I'm really hoping they go deep as fuck with it. Maybe make it a proper exploration open world game in which you have to utilise certain RPG elements to get to certain/specific parts of the game. E.G. Must be level 10 and possess a certain ability to be able to traverse through a Jungle to catch a specific Pokemon.
That would be banannas haha, but I wouldn't hold out hope. The games have progressed a lot since Red and Blue, but installment to installment? Not so much. Being on a "home console" will hopefully change things on a technical level (graphics, bigger world, camera controls!!) but the Switch is also a portable system so I think we can expect their design philosophies to stay mostly the same, espically in regards to multiplayer and online content.
The weird thing about making Pokémon open world is that it could really eff up level progression if they aren't careful. It's not like other rpgs where walking into an area you're not prepared for kicks your butt and that's the end of it; now you have enemies 10 or 20 levels higher than your strongest 'mon that could potenyiallh be caught amd added to the team with a lucky pokéball toss, which would throw off the balance.
I'll be happy if we at lest return to the non-linear elements of the first games, where you'd just kinda stuble onto towns and gyms out of order, on your own accord. Sun and Moom be good but dang if it didn't have a constant chokehold on your progress.

I expect the console Pokemon game to be HD and I hope it runs at a steady 60fps. :p
In other news, the Galvantula line is superior to Vikavolt's. It's just disappointing that a beetle resembling a spaceship is so, slow, not to mention you'll have to wait near the end of the game to get the final form.

By Alexhex Go To PostGive ICE types some love next gen, Gamefreak. They need it.Grass types need another buff too. Maybe make them immune to Fairy based on the lore with fairies being tied to nature.
I'm really curious as to what surprises will lurch out from USUM. I'm really hoping for some more Alolan Forms, of the new features added for SM, they were the ones I was most interested by. Whilst I didn't have any problem with the variety or designs they used, there just wasn't that many of them.
With the widening dex I desperately hope they address the distribution issues I felt SM had given that I felt I kept see Yungoos for the entire length of the game. It's odd though, since USUM was announced I've maintained somewhere between no and almost no interest, but in the last week or so as a few more details have come out I'm actually getting a bit excited for it in that it won't be SM 1.1 and will be its own thing. Still gonna miss the DexNav though.

They're maybe worse than ICE in that respect: 4 weaknesses and it's only strong against 3 types to ICE's 4. Both make poor defensive Pokémon but it's almost like they keep trying to make them into walls with stuff like leech seed and the powders and whatnot and it's like... not while they're weak to two of the more common offensive types.

The fact that there hasn't been any Grass Elite four member and any late-ish game Grass gym out of the "starting" types says a lot at how weak it usually it post/meta-game.
Two biggest problem Ice has is that it many of the Pokemon of this type is very slow and more importantly, shares many of it's move sets with the superior Water type. I mean why use an Ice Pokemon that have some common weakness, when Water is a better defensive type(only 2 weaknesses) that you can slap Ice Beam on them to take care of Dragons?

STAB?
Obviously the meta will change as the rules change, but the best Ice type who could use Ice Beam at the moment is probably Alolan Ninetales and I don't see why they'd use that over accurate Blizzard or Freeze Dry.
Yeah exactly. Ice is a good offensive but it's more of a burden then anything when it comes to typing, it's weak to a bunch of common offensive types as well as stealth rocks. The STAB can be nice but when you can 4x super effective a numbr of big threats it's not really necessary. Campaign-wise, fast ice types are always really useful though. They gotta be glass (or ice) cannons. They should fudge with the chart though, maybe knock off one weakness and give it a resistence other than itself. As it stand fairy easily outclasses it, and as mentioned, the one really good ice type right now is ALSO fairy lol.
Grass I don't even know, you'd need some major adjustments there.

Skip the boring leveling up and IV training and go straight to battling.
Its amazing.
Also Bulbasaur > all
Fact.
I just started up a new game of Gold. I can't wait for Whitney to crush me over and over. Oh the memories...the painful memories.
I don't know if anyone was here was following the VC pokemon Gold & Silver thread on but ShadowKnight, I believe that's the user's name, made this tool - http://37.97.147.73/Headbutt%20Grid.htm - to find Heracross. Just one thing I wanted to snag before GAF crashed and burned.
Serebii has announced that we will be getting more USUM news on November 2nd. Maybe they'll officially reveal the new Team Rocket?
We also have some new screenshots which show some events that weren't in the original sun and moon games. As well as reveal Pokemon that weren't in the Alola Dex before. Like Furfrou, Hawlucha and Inkay.
I think these games look great! Now that I've done 2 playthroughs using the new Alola Pokemon, I'm looking forward to going through the story with a completely different party using Pokemon from other gens.

By Tacosaresandwiches Go To PostI just started up a new game of Gold. I can't wait for Whitney to crush me over and over. Oh the memories…the painful memories.I didn't have any trouble with Whitney in my latest playthrough of Silver Version funny enough. I used a Heracross with Fury Cutter (the TM you get from Bugsy) against her Miltank. Fury Cutter is similar to Rollout in that it gets stronger each time you you it, so I just used Heracross to take out her Clefairy with fury cutter and then 1 Hit KO'd her Miltank. A little anti-climactic, but also satisfying after the trouble she gave me when I was a kid.
