I'm bored and it is late at night and I was lurking the anime thread and saw somebody said that Manga didn't have a thread so here I am trying to fix that!
So lets start this off with a bang!
what series are you reading right now?
Got any recommendations for users?
It doesn't have to be just Japanese manga! Light Novels, Chinese Manhua, Korean manhwa are all welcome here.
Please note if it is currently running weekly or monthly series please be sure to spoiler tag parts of your post for the first few days of release for new chapters.
other than that go crazy!

I haven't read manga in quite awhile, but I've been eyeing the couple .Hack books I've got on my shelf since the remaster (or remake?) is on the way. Also been thinking about getting into the "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin" books. Are they good? I'm only familiar with all the Gundam stuff by proxy despite being really into anime and manga when I was younger.

If you plan to buy it digitally I'd say just go for it. And if you want to get it physically head to your local Barnes and Nobles (or equivalent if it isn't in your area) and just read the first chapter there. Then make the call.
Really need to catch up with One Piece. I used to read Berserk, HxH, and Jojo, so right now I'm just reading Jojos, lol.
One piece I find works way better when I cram it, so that's what I'm gonna do.

I'm liking Spirit Mountain and Tales of Demons and Gods a good bit.
Do light novels count? If so, I really enjoyed the recently completely translated Prase the Orc!.

Working my way through Mushishi now, which is quite charming.
I used to read far more, but nowadays it's only One Piece and Promised Neverland on a regular basis. Dressrosa tired me out, but Zou and Whole Cake Island have reignited my OP love. Katakuri is the best new OP character in years!

the only chinese manhua i currently read is 武道狂之诗, english name is blood and steel
used to read 火凤燎原 (ravages of time) as well, but stopped a long time ago
i'm more of a japanese manga guy, korean manhwa only following tower of god currently

I'll edit the OP tomorrow to clarify but yes it is fine to talk about Manhua, Manhwa, and light novels in this thread. So post away on any you like/ want to rag on.
To echo the One Piece sentiments I'm in the same bout got burnt out following Dressrosa (god usopp will always be hysterical though) but the Zou and Whole Cake Island arcs really reignited my love for the series. I was originally skeptical of Katakuri when he first got introduced (I was salty they so casually introduced the first billion Berry villain) but the last few chapters have really turned my opinion around on the guy. Dudes most recent back story about how he has never fallen was hysterical.

By s y Go To PostCaught up to MHA after finishing the anime.I give it 20-50 chapters max before he gets his powers back. Dude is way to popular I feel to get side lined like that.
IF MIRIO DOESNT GET HIS POWERS BACK THEN FUCK THIS
By cantaim Go To PostI give it 20-50 chapters max before he gets his powers back. Dude is way to popular I feel to get side lined like that.I hope so but at the same time, it'd be great if the series started having some real consequences.
Maybe the girl ends up rewinding and fixing Mirio but dies in the process.
I only read OP and HxH these days.
Doubt I will post here as I wait for the Viz media volumes to read, so sure I will get spoilt in here.
Just wanted to stop by and say let me know if anyone is into a reading thread. It didn't last long last time, but I love that it introduced me to some new shit. Would be cool to start it up again with more people here.

Man, speaking of HxH, last thing I remember was there being like a whole new world being discovered or something and the president's son being involved. How many chapters have there been since?
I dropped One Piece during the fish city arc, way too boring. Interested how much longer Oda will keep it going.
Does anyone know if Tsugumi Ohba(wroter for Death Note and Bakuman) and Obata Takeshi's(artist for Death Note and Bakukan) new manga, Platinum End is any good? I love his art so I might read just for that.

Yeah, that arc wasn't the best, but I am loving it so much again. Oda's world building is amazing. Shit is getting bigger and bigger all the time.
I haven't read HxH since the recent return, i really need to, but what you said is true. Not sure how many chapters, but it finally led to Hisoka vs Chrollo
I'm subscribe to Weekly Shonen Jump so i read all comics there weekly. I also read a few like Hajime no Ippo that are outside of Shonen Jump. Speaking of Hajime no Ippo I wonder if the author is really going to end the series or just coming up with more filler.

Not available in my area :(((

I understand where your coming from ; but all these manga are shonen and they follow the same formula. If anyone does (IF) its an older guy in a role model form. Mirio will get he's power's back somehow, I think.
When it comes to Korean Comics (Manhwa) I pretty much only read Tower of God.

If it's at all possible I highly recommend reading the physical versions cause the release copies are incredible, there's quite a few color pages. I read them at my library.
Lately I’ve been rereading Ravages of Time in my spare time. It is just as good as when I originally read it. By far the greatest manga based on the Three Kingdoms time period in China.
By CoolestSpot Go To PostThe fact these creators make a chapter a week is crazy…
Was crazy reading Toriyama's work week.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostWas crazy reading Toriyama's work week.
Is it as bad as Oda's?
He only budgets 2-3 hours of sleep per day. One of the reasons why One Piece goes on a break every 3-4 weeks is because the Jump editors are worried about his health. Dude smokes like a chimney as well.
By CoolestSpot Go To PostThe fact these creators make a chapter a week is crazy…Yeah, unfortunately it's a terrible way to live and I feel real bad for them. :(
I'm a Weekly Shonen Jump subscriber and I read most of the manga on there. Favorites are My Hero Academia, Blue Exorcist, Dr. Stone and One Piece but I pretty much love all of them. "Full Drive", the new manga from yesterday's issue seems like it'll be fun as well.
So are untagged spoilers okay here? Cause that might get messy considering it's one thread for all manga discussion.

Yeah, Toriyama was pretty bad. I think i read about it in the back of one of the Dr Slumps. I think he only had one assistant.
A lot of the problem is that so many of them want to do a lot of the work themselves.

In other cases, I'm not sure. What do others think would be a good general policy?
e: i want to clarify that there is no set rule right now but this would be a good time to discuss what everyone wants!
I would try something like this to keep it simple. If its a completed Manga Series like Naruto then no spoiler tags are needed.
If its an on going manga on weekly shonen jump or somewhere else, use spoiler tags. ? I think that would work.

I think spoiler tags on ongoing stuff should be enforced as that’s where there’ll be week-to-week discussion of story events.
As for finished stuff like Naruto, I guess tagging those is not as important since someone could make an LTTP thread if they wanted to discuss story specifics (that would allow people who’ve read that manga but don’t read manga regularly enough to come to this thread to contribute). I’m not sure though.

I'm way (way) into One Piece, subscribe to Weekly Shonen Jump and ignore scanlations. Can't stand the fact that the majority of the OP community online is based entirely around illegal scans, especially considering the series doesn't get the love it deserves in North America.
Outside of One Piece I read stuff randomly. I just finished reading Uzumaki and The Drifting Classroom in the last few weeks, as I've been on a Junji Ito kick for awhile. I'm semi caught up on some Jump series like MHA and OPM, but I haven't had a lot of time to actually read WSJ, outside of One Piece, for awhile.
There's a ton of stuff I want to read, so much Berserk, but finding time isn't always easy and as someone who prefers to actually purchase and support manga, it's also fairly expensive.

Hi everyone. I decided I should read a classic and ordered the first three volumes of Yu Yu Hakusho, they should arrive in the next few days, I'm looking forward to it. :)

I think, in general, we want to give people ample time to read through a new release without having major plot points spoiled. I.E. "That was such a great fight, especially at the end! I'm bummed he died, though".
I think using spoiler tags on major plot points for three days after initial release (or first major translation, depending on how people are consuming it) should be enough time to prevent spoilers while still allowing a period of unrestricted discussion prior to the next release.
By Strat Go To PostI'm way (way) into One Piece, subscribe to Weekly Shonen Jump and ignore scanlations.$26 a year isn't bad. What's the release schedule like?

By s y Go To Post$26 a year isn't bad. What's the release schedule like? It's on the exact same schedule as Japan, so once a week, every Monday. It's such a deal, considering the insane size of each volume. Even if you only read one or two series, it's still worth it.
I highly recommend reading Made in Abyss, though I should warn that there's some questionable content in there.
By Silfer Go To PostI think spoiler tags on ongoing stuff should be enforced as that’s where there’ll be week-to-week discussion of story events.Yea that's what I'm thinking. Keep week to week stuff spoilered but series that are finished or have a few years under their belt can be discussed more openly.

Edit didn't see kiblers post. Seems like a good idea too keep it spoilered for a few days after release. Just wanna be sure the thread in some capacity stays open for discussion for both casual and hardcore fans.

Seconding the recommendation for Weekly Shonen Jump. It’s fantastic value and it just feels cool to have a (digital) magazine with manga on it ever week and going through a roller-coaster of emotions depending on the content of the different manga and how they’re ordered.
I have my manga that I read illegally, like a lot of manga fans on the internet, but it feels nice to be able to support the medium in a way that’s not to expensive for me. I buy volumes for some manga I like (such as HeroAca, Blue Exorcist, Black Clover and Tokyo Ghoul) but that can get very expensive when you’re catching up, especially long-running stuff like One Piece. I like being able to at least get up to date using scans and then keep up with the official release with WSJ.
