Gears of War 4 and Halo 5 bundle for $35 on Xbox Live. Two of the best games on the box!
By Smokey Go To PostI think it's a continuation of the bad gamma curve. It's why I bought a standalone UHD player. I read that the BR app on X1 was awful.Yeah, so disappointing. I'm falling down the rabbit hole of looking at Oppo players now. Last thing I need is another device. Makes the Sony decision to not put a 4K drive into the Pro even more baffling and frustrating.
By Lupercal Go To PostMaybe you can still change some settings or is everything automatically configured with the xbox ?I manually entered all the appropriate settings, I'm getting HDR in games on both my X and base model PS4. Just more of the same messed up blacks.
With all the hype they put around the machine on it's fidelity, You'd think they would have gone out of their way to correct this basic thing.
By h3ro Go To PostAnyone else getting badly crushed blacks in 4KHDR Netflix streams? There can also be miscommunication between the system and the TV and the TV doesn't know whether the system is sending RGB Full or Limited. Try manually setting them both to Limited and see if that helps.
I just did a quick comparison between a specific pitch black scene in Stranger Things between the X and my KS8000's built in Netflix app and the X is putting out greyish/blacks while the TV app is putting out proper dark blacks.
The settings/wiring is correct but not sure if this is just a continuation of the strange gamma curve MS systems use. Sucks as I wanted to use this for 4K Blu rays.

Try manually setting them both to Limited and see if that helps.I'm going to do some further testing and screwing around of settings later today. Stinks that I will probably have to end up running different calibration settings for my X while using the same for my Apple TV 4K and PS4.

.
I picked up the LGUP970 for $230 a few months ago. I'm sure it'll drop < $200 during Black Friday. It's the only other player besides Oppo that will handle both HDR10 and Dolby Vision, although if you don't have a TV that can display DV, it's moot.
By RobNBanks Go To PostIsn’t crushed blacks a notorious issue with the Xbox?
Yeah
The Sims 4 (EA Access) plays like garbage on the Xbox One X . PC Version is miles ahead shocking due to a less graphically intensive engine than previous installments

GamersNexus putting in work on their testing.
Thermals, frames and power consumption all tested for Assassin's Creed Origins, CoD:WW2 and Destiny 2.
Pretty impressed at the temps personally. I thought they'd be much higher considering how small of a box it is, though they did apply their own thermal paste so who knows what the temps are like at stock.

What a upgrade. The "I can't tell there difference between 1080p and 4k" people should go away with these upgrade videos. It's interesting that the 16x AF goes away in favor of the patched versions 4k resolution, but if you don't patch the game, you get the auto 16x AF and supersampling the One X automatically provides. 60fps makes a huge difference. At the end when they cut over to the Halo 3 One X footage, the drop to 30 is jarring.
Smokey, you seen that video doing the rounds of The Witcher 3 kinda/sorta/sometimes running at 60FPS on the X1X?
One X is a beast but they really need to invest in first party stuff
Showcase of your $500 system can’t be a two year old game. They needed to have a launch title that made Horizon look like an early PS3 game.

I don't think their early 2018 slate is really going to convince anybody of the graphical horsepower of the X between Crackdown, State of Decay, and Sea of Thieves. (Maybe I'm wrong, nobody has seen Crackdown in six months now. I doubt it, though.) But I do think Halo 6 will be a real showstopper on the X. 343 has shown across both their games now that they can absolutely be counted on to deliver beautiful visuals.
Halo 6 and FH4 will both be stunning, but I sincerely hope their E3 is more than those two games since we know those are coming anyway.

Yeah that's pre patch right?

This is not a new gen. The enhancements to the current games, 360 games, and top spot for 3rd party stuff will be enough to carry it through until next gen. One X was more of a statement of how they fucked up Xbox One and "making amends". Now that Phil is a VP he'll probably have more influence on snapping up studios and the like. But games take years to develop. Sony didn't develop their worldwide studios in 2 years.
This was about updating the absolute shit hardware and claiming to have more powerful hardware than the competition, which has been Xboxs thing since day 1, really. At least they can legit say that it's the best place to play 3rd party games, which the 360 was as well.
By Smokey Go To PostYeah that's pre patch right?
Yeah, pre-any patch. I found it pretty interesting though, with it having an uncapped frame rate, you can get a good look at how the X1X compares to and excels against the original Xbone.
I mean, it's still running at low-mid settings and at 900p, but the fact that it hits 60FPS in areas that aren't as CPU intensive and the base hardware struggles to maintain 30FPS just shows how much headroom the GPU has.
Then in Novigrad, with it being so heavily CPU bound in that area, you get a real world comparison of the difference between the base 1.7Ghz CPU to 2.3Ghz X1X CPU. Which turns out to be around 10-15FPS improvement.
Friend of mine bought an Xbox X and a new 4K tv with HDR.
COnnects the XBOX with proper HDMI cable to tv, no HDR.
Starts up Stranger Things season 2 (HDR turns on)
He's tried all the HDMI ports but nothing works. Cable does work on my tv and gets immediate HDR. Anyone know something about it ?

It might be a while yet till we see Gears 5, but considering how well they did with the base Xbox One hardware, I'd say they have what it takes to deliver in spades on the tech/graphics front with X1X.

He needs to make sure that the HDR setting is enabled on that HDMI port. On OLEDs for example, the settings is "Ultra Deep Color" and you have to enable it on each HDMI port if you're feeding it a HDR source, otherwise the TV won't display it.
Each HDR TV has a similar setting iirc.
Remember all that press about how the only way to buy an X1X in Japan was through pre-order and that all pre-orders in Japan were apparently sold out?
Well, it sold an incredible 1342 units. While that's nearly 2000% less than the X1's first week, it's still 15% of all Xbox sales in Japan this year.

To be fair, the Xbox One X sold less units then launch Xbox One everywhere. Maybe not as extreme as 2000% less, but still considerably less then amount of units sold at launch.

It's a known issue for his Phillips tv Model.

Thanks for the suggestions tho !
