INFORMATION
Mindhunter, a brand new detective series from the mind of filmmaker David Fincher, releases its entire first season October 13th on Netflix.
Based on Mark Olshaker and John E Douglas’ 1995 book, Mindhunter: Inside The FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit - the series focuses on Holden Ford and Bill Tench, two FBI agents tasked with interviewing jailed serial killers. As well as trying to figure out exactly what it is that makes these infamous criminals tick, the pair use this information to help solve ongoing investigations. Their bosses, however, soon begin to worry that Ford and Tench may be connecting a little too closely with their subjects.
Other directors lending their talent to the series are Asif Kapadia (Senna, Amy), Tobias Lindholm (A Hijacking), Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror).
The show has been penned by award-winning playwrights Joe Penhall (Sunny Afternoon) and Jennifer Haley (The Nether), while none other than Charlize Theron serves as executive producer.

The show has already been renewed for a second season.
Amazing show, some of the dialogue scenes are just incredibly engaging.
The ending made me angry because I wanted more episodes and also because they teased something the whole season and we never get to truly see the BTK case, I wonder if they will continue to tease it until the final season.

I see that mentioned a lot but it's not bad acting. What people think it's bad acting it's actually a character trait that makes sense.
Man he's acting the hell out of that character. It's just a bit of a weird fella which he manages to pull of really well.
Just finished it, loved all of it.

I agree it may be related to how the character was written, but still his acting seems all over the place.

Watched all the episodes over this weekend. Really engrossed and was disappointed when there wasn't a 11th episode. The actor for Kemper was pretty good.
Can't wait for season 2.

Watched the first episode. Great writing / dialogue but shit pacing. Took an hour to basically call the young dude a green egghead...
hopefully it becomes a bit more fluid for lackof a better word

Yeah pacing is a bit off in the first few eps. They take some time to get things up to speed.
Working from and watching this. On the second episode, the guy playing Ed is putting on a great performance.
By Fenderputty Go To PostI read this thread title as MILFHUNTER.I would watch a Milfhunter show.
I suppose I have a new show to try lol
By s y Go To Postim hookedSame here, one episode left because I had to go to sleep.
On ep 3, really loving it. Lots of thoughts.
The stuff with Ed Kemper is super accurate. Did a little Wikipedia sleuthing and almost everything in record about him is mentioned in the show.

By FlutterPuffs Go To PostAnna Torv, man.
She is hot as fuck. Never digged her much in Fringe, but now. Oh WOW
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postwasn't that into the first episode–hope it improvesSecond episode is where it starts ! :D
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostJust finished.I know, I was so upset after that ending when the option to "watch next episode" didn't appear.
Fuck Netflix, why they let us binge this shit?
I need season 2 now.
It also looks so good in 4K.
I’m liking this show. I think what is great is it is a slow burn. I feel like you aren’t bombarded with tons of in your face stuff.
Thoroughly enjoyed the show. By the end of the season, Holden had pretty much transitioned into a sociopath, and became confronted with it when he flew out to see Kemper. I'm glad they presented Holden in such an unlikabe light. Legit excited to see where it picks up - too bad the wait is gonna be forever.
Also gotta give props for the show not falling into the drop dead gorgeous trope. It was way subdued.

By LFMartins86 Go To PostThey revealed where they are doing with S2. It will follow the case of the Atlanta Child Murders.
After showing him all the season I was expecting that S2 would be about the BTK killer. I just read about the Atlanta Child Murders, so many creepy fuckers out there.

By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostSo all these guys are real? The killers, yes. The detectives are based on John Douglas and Robert K Ressler but they changed their names and changed some things for dramatic reasons.

Yeah, it makes sense.

Some behind the scenes stuff:
http://collider.com/mindhunter-david-fincher-showrunner/#joe-penhaal
Joe Penhall is the credited creator of Mindhunter, but the project eventually shifted from HBO to Netflix, and at that point Penhall told Writerly this past April that Fincher opted to run the writers room himself:
He also mentions that he thumped a five season story bible when development was under HBO, while Holt MacCallany says that bible is 'completely irrelevant now' as Fincher changed the original scripts considerably.
With Fincher about to marry Pitt again for the next year and change, I kinda remain hopeful that he's able to oversee this project so it's not his Millenium film trilogy volume deja vu. Ehh but hey, I'm sure there's enough talent to guide this anyhow.

Joe Penhall is the credited creator of Mindhunter, but the project eventually shifted from HBO to Netflix, and at that point Penhall told Writerly this past April that Fincher opted to run the writers room himself:
“ [The situation] was complicated. HBO offered me a creator/exec producer deal which means they would pay for me to go and live in America and run a writers’ room. They said [Penhall puts on Hollywood accent] do you want the whole pie, do you want a slice of the pie, do you want an iddy bit, what do you want?Penhall commissioned two writers, Jennifer Haley and Erin Levy (both have written for Mad Men I believe) to do a couple rewrites before he rewrote them again himself:
And I said I want the whole pie, expecting to go to America and do it and then Fincher [left] HBO and took it to Netflix where he was comfortable and between them they cooked up this idea that I wouldn’t go out to America and run the writers’ room, he wanted to run it, which I was happy with because by then it was 3 years later and I didn’t want to go, my kids were in school so we agreed on this virtual writers’ room, spoke to them on the internet [and] occasionally flew into town.”
"In the end it proved very difficult to make work. It’s shot now and we’re waiting to come out. I don’t know what’s going to happen in terms of season 2, 3, 4 and 5 because that model is probably unworkable. Me writing 7 episodes and 3 Emmy award-winning writers writing the other three, it’s high maintenance.”

Watched the entire show in 2 days, which led me on to watching some of the Kemper interviews on youtube, seem to be a very close likeness but he doesn't seem to joke as much in the interviews with the TV people, I guess he was different with the FBI guys. Really looking forward to season 2.

I thought Holden was going to slowly turn into a serialkiller aswell going by the events of episode 10 but I'm kinda excited the whole showdown with Kemper grounded him back to reality. That whole end sequence was beautifully shot aswell.
Now I just have to bear the wait for SE2.
I thought the show had some great (often, dark) humor - some of it very subtle, others that Fincher drew direct attention to (Holden’s reaction to “flimflam”, for example). As far as Holden being a sociopath, I felt like that was being conveyed early on with the way he talked and the social cues he was blind to, which he discussed with his girlfriend. He’s like an alien that expertly analyses human beings, yet is a total dope when it comes to analyzing his own behavior.
Looking forward to S2.

Watched this show this weekend. I’m going through serious withdrawal already. I’m wondering what the plot line with Wendy and the cat will lead to.
Only watched 2 episodes so far, but I'm already hooked. Generally not into serial killer shows, but the focus on the behavioral science development in regards to these murderers is absolutely fascinating. Actually made me regret only taking one course on the subject back in highschool, lol.
