Go ahead and post away Slaenters your favorite first person shooter of all time and explain why that's so.
If I had to choose overall it would be Halo.
Played Too much of FPS titles that it had consumed my gaming experience from other genres that were gems no doubt.
Ex. Skyrim. Dark Souls. Dishonored. Etc. Etc.

Halo easily. My gaming life is non-existent without it.

I'd definitely have to say that Bioshock, first game on my 360 when it first came out and boy was it mind blowing.

Quake 2 for me. The OG railgun sound FX, animation, and consequential gibs remains unmatched to this day. Every weapon has its place in that game.
By parallaxquake 2. lan parties, custom stages, bots, gravity adjustment. all added to tons of gameplay
This is weird.
Team Fortress 2 purely based on time spent playing.
I never really liked shootemup games and was never really good at them.
Which is probably why I liked TF2 since there were so many classes where you didn't have to aim.

And so do I.
Quake 2 was what finally hooked me. 56k HPW(me) vs cable LPB's back when Cable in AU was stupid expensive.
RA2 until who knows when. CTF.
LAN's in dodgy school halls with 100's of others.
LAN's in sports stadiums with 1000 others
Discovering Jolt Cola. Hating Jolt Cola.
Downloading way too many demo's from SHOD (staynes house of demos).
Then i went backwardsto QW. Then Q3. Then RA3 having a launch party. For a mod. Insane.

Forgot about this! That story co-op at hard level, we and a friend are still trying to complete that. Took us something like 8 years to finish Syberia on hard in coop
Haven't played many throughout life, but I'm gonna say Goldeneye and MW2. Also I really want a Modern Warfare Collection.
For me it's between Goldeneye and Timesplitters 2, hours and hours of fun with those 2. I'm also very fond of a couple of more obscure oldies: XIII and Black.
Edit for the whys: XIII had great mechanics and the cel-shaded comic book style really blew me away. Black had great weapons and decent destructability for the time; also really well integrated optional objectives that extended the life of the game.

By RBKFird Person Shooter innitBy zothiacThe Last of Us for sure!FPS bruh.
TimeSplitters 2 and Modern Warfare 2 for multiplayer
Half Life 1 and Opposing Force for single player
Have to mention Bioshock as well just for the world.
Never really got the Portal adulation.
By The_Hitcher89Never really got the Portal adulation.Portal 2 is a lot better. Worth giving a go if you haven't.
Probably Halo. I have played better SP and MP games for sure but I don't think anything will ever top freshman year of college playing nonstop with friends.
Oddly enough, CS.
I never played the original or Source (outside a few 24/7 lobbies at my friends house) but the whole concept of the game just appealed to me. I would watch tournaments just because I thought it was the best competitive game ever.
While GO has it's fair share of problems, I don't think anything else in the last 5 years is close. I'm happy CS is now one of the most popular games in the world, just sucks it took digital skins to get people to notice it.
As for single player FPS, Half Life. I just played it a couple of months ago for the first time and with the exception of movement I honestly thought the game was perfection. I have a short attention span when it comes to single player games, but this game got me hooked and I beat it in about 2 days.

If not, play Half Life 2.
for story based FPS, Half-Life series, nothing even comes close. maybe Metroid prime.
as for online mp fps, that title goes to battlefield 3 and TF2 in a close 2nd

I have. It took me about two months to beat because I thought it was extremely boring. Water boat section, the other vehicle section, don't touch the sand section. I hated the first 2/3 of the game. Last third was great though. If Valve ever decides to be a video game developer again and makes Half Life 3 hopefully it's the first 2/3 of Half Life and the last third of HL2.
My problem is that if I'm playing a game in a genre, I want to play that genre. So if it's an FPS, I just want to shoot shit. I don't want to drive your garbage vehicles or pretend I'm 5 andthat the floor is lava. If I'm playing NBA 2K I just wanna average a triple double. I don't want dialogue options and cutscenes in my career mode. Just let me go to the next game so I can break Kareem's scoring record by my 5th season.

Based on your complaints of the main game I think you'd really enjoy those.

It's not weird that he agrees, but it was as if I hadn't mentioned Quake 2 at all. IDK, internet communities as a proxy for real-time social interaction has always been awkward.
Quake 2 was the game that had regular joes buying video cards in the 90s, back when one had to take pliers to the board to even attempt an OC. I fondly remember our first ATI All-In-Wonder.
