By Elchele Go To Postso you want to pay more money, to be able to pay even more money?I already subscribe to Game Pass. So, that's a sunk cost. It would be nice to be able to download games 20 times quicker, though, especially when they are in the 80 GB range.
Kib it's great what you have but for what it's worth the PNW has so much nature within a quick drive that if you get that itch it's very easily scratched.
By Random Ass Username Go To PostKib it's great what you have but for what it's worth the PNW has so much nature within a quick drive that if you get that itch it's very easily scratched. It's more that my broke brain makes me start to get really uncomfortable when I'm around that many people that close together.
I visited my brother up in Portland once and thought it was a nice place to visit but didn't want to live there. I explored the town, ate at a different local joint every meal I could, visited Moulnoma (sp?) Falls and hiked a trail somewhere nearby. Also went to a Japanese garden. It was all very pretty, but I was done and ready to leave by the end of the week.
If you don't mind driving live further out. There's plenty of small towns. Hell I've driven through a bunch of 'em.
Got some more deck chairs today. Feels good not having to move shit outside the next time we have more than 8 people over.

By Fenderputty Go To PostKibs reaction to the suburban sprawl of LA was something I’ll remember. LolIf I can reach out my window and touch my neighbor's house, that ain't living! :p
I'm the complete opposite. I hate the wilderness. It's there for us city folk to hike and then leave to return to civilization. Baltimore and DC are nice for that. There are farms, woods, water and an ocean very close by in every direction no more than a few miles away.
By Kibner Go To PostDebating whether I want to pay an extra $45 a month for gigabit internet. I currently get 50/25. The only thing I can see me doing to take advantage of it is Game Pass on the XB1.I’d say get it. I don’t ever want to go back to non-gigabit internet
I remember taking 45 minutes to download CSGO at my parents house (they have 50/25) but it took me 30 minutes to download R6S + Ultra texture pack which comes out to 90GB

Having lived in both extremes. City living>country
Small country town sucks because there isn’t shit to do unless I want to drive 30 miles. No theaters, no art scene, no good music venues, and just a lack of culture all around.
a good small town is godlike
By domino Go To PostYeah that small town shit is for the birds.naw small towns in nc just suck
I'm in luck with the small town close to me. Those things are only a twenty minute drive away! Music scenes are much closer if you are cool with bar bands or live music at restaurants (e: oh, you said good venues. Whoops lol). There should be a couple primarily music venues in town, don't remember. No classical music theater. The local high school bands are great, but still only nearly average college level in quality.
There are several historical sites based off the local culture that also show a good bit of local art. Have both a film and live acting theaters. I think there is even a comedy club. And the local festivals (primarily based off food), of course. Not as much variety as you would like, but it exists! (damning with faint praise here)
Though if I want big city versions of all that, it turns into a 40-70 minute drive depending on what part of BR or NO I want to go to, so yeah, I feel you and you still wouldn't like it here.
E: high culture stuff there is rare, but local culture (Acadian and Cajun, primarily) is everywhere.
E2: I didn't even mention the different restaurants! There's so many... If we had city blocks, there would be multiple local joints on every one

My old town was pretty small, don't think I could ever go back to London now.
A minute walk between shops is disgraceful.

What kind of population size do you guys consider small town? Is it a combo of land and pop size? Proximity to the larger cities?
By Fenderputty Go To PostWhat kind of population size do you guys consider small town? Is it a combo of land and pop size? Proximity to the larger cities? Not sure. The town near me I have been talking about has a population under 11k. The zip code I live in is under 4k.
See I would consider the suburb I grew up in relatively small for where I live and it's got around 45K people in it. You can get smaller nice towns around the size of what you're describing, but they'll be far away from LA / SD / OC areas.
Rural driving can actually be horrifying. Tons of guys in trucks who've mastered drifting around mountain roads that resemble tracks from Tokyo Drift.
Still, high salary in a low cost of living spot is the eventual end goal.

Trying to stay motivated at work while being sad all the time is the worst part about depression. I just want to mope, be moody, and veg out, but I just feel more and more burnt out after the day ends, eventhough work is just fine and pretty stress-free atm.
I need a long fucking break especially after jumping into this new job right away after what went down with my old one. I don't think I ever allowed myself to properly deal with that because I went straight into finding a new job, which is by far one of my biggest stressors.

See if you can take a week off or a four-day weekend or something and go take a trip with a friend or two. It should do wonders.
I've been spoiled by stuff within walking distance. Much as I love nature and stuff, it's really nice just walking to second hand stores, groceries, bars and restaurants. If I had to drive for miles again just to buy some fresh produce or toiletries I'd probably go mad.

Your first week on the job and you were already being sent to new York too for business IIRC.
I don't mean to presume, so if you can't feasibly do this it's whatever, but can you find yourself a kit car you can dive into for a couple months? Something you love that you can lose yourself in. The bonus is the product you worked on at the end.

Hate the cunts. Ruin the roads with their heavy plant but whine at you if you dare take a mountain bike down a public bridleway on their land. The last guy nearly got his shit pushed out infront of his crone wife.
Found out I'm teaching a survey of calculus in the "Fall", basically a course that fulfills the mathematical requirement for non-science majors. I'm more worried about teaching this then I was about teaching Calc 3 this summer. I struggle trying to teach mathematics to non-science oriented people because I struggle to understand their thought processes.

We tend to think in words and image rather than numbers and formulas.
Keep it simple, start at the beginning with everything, and couch as much as you can in terms of narrative. Humanities folks tend to deal in stories. Like, I don’t remember how to program the Fibonacci sequence from my comsci class, but I do remember the history of computing he taught in the same course.
It also might help to deal in high level concepts rather than getting bogged down in details unless they’re necessary. Like, I don’t remember the formulas from undergrad physics, but the properties of waves, blue shifts, etc., those kinds of things stuck.
Went to a furniture store to try out different sofas. Ekornes is GOAT tier with their plus system. Each section of the couch is its own recliner. Great head and neck support with near-perfect firmness for reclining.
Need to see if there is a Fjord carrier in town with display models so I can compare between the two brands.

i can't wait until i dont have to hear "what happened to your face???" because of the cuts from the accident
its the one area i'm most self conscious about ever since the between Fresh/Soph year in college where i didn't go outside because of a skin virus that caused my face to look like a cross between vitiligo michael jackson and killer croc
i only just got confident about my looks in the last year or so.

This guy came through in the CLUTCH yesterday
Stanley Fatmax 1000
My battery wouldn't start yesterday, and nobody around to help with a jump. The Fatmax has 2 jumper cables attached. I was able to jump it enough to get to AutoZone and get a new battery, using just the Fatmax. My front tires were also under pressure. I was able to use the Compressor to fill them back up to the appropriate PSI right in the parking lot. It also has a few power outlets on it in case you need those as well. If I didn't have that, I was looking at having to get the car towed and the expense and headache that comes with that, plus buying a new battery. Had to jump it 3x with this in total to get to Autozone for a battery.
Mine was still under warranty by 2 months, so I got a free replacement, and upgraded to a better battery that should last a lot longer.

Also, I can't read, but that amp station is like $100.
yeh i had a cheap £20 jumper kit that i used twice daily whilst i waited for a new alternator. needed charging every few days but not something that was prohibitive.
Thanks. Just checked the car, lol it won't start. Someones coming to jump it and I'll go straight to AutoZone or something.

I think we got it for about 100. Never had to use it until yesterday. Autozone will also test your battery for free to make sure it's actually the problem. The batteries from them come with a certain period of time with a free replacement which is what i took advantage of.
The new battery was $200, but we used the price of the dead battery and the warranty on it, to pay the difference, which came out to like $50ish.
e: 159 was the price
