By jts Go To PostNo experience whatsoever but doesn’t sound good. You’re probably gonna have to contact Nintendo.I left it alone for a few hours and it started working again so I don't know what's going on now. It appears to be working fine. I'll contact Nintendo of it happens again.
Btw they should be able to transfer your save data if necessary, provided the memory is still working.
Bricked itself again. Will go to the retailer first who'll then tell me to contact Nintendo etc.
All the games were downloaded from the eshop. I assume I'll be able to redownload these onto a new system?

By Cleff Go To PostBricked itself again. Will go to the retailer first who'll then tell me to contact Nintendo etc.Games are tied to your account. I'd be worried about saves since they're on your system and afaik there's no way to move them. I've read that if you send your switch in your saves are gone.

I've read that if you send your switch in your saves are gone. No, this isn’t accurate. Nintendo themselves can move them to a new or fixed system, as long as the memory still works.
Sorry to hear that Cleff. Yeah you’ll get your games back.
By Nelo Ice Go To PostGames are tied to your account. I'd be worried about saves since they're on your system and afaik there's no way to move them. I've read that if you send your switch in your saves are gone.It depends, some people have reported that their saves were intact.
I think one of the latest firmwares added an option to export the saves to another Switch.

I've read that if you send your switch in your saves are gone.I'm not so worried about saves tbh. I've only Mario and Zelda and I only started playing those on Christmas day so I haven't gotten far into either game. I'm happy enough knowing I can download these games again onto a new console. I also hope I can make a direct exchange with the retailer but doubt that'll happen. I received the Switch a few days ago but it was bought in early November.
Edit: Thanks for the additional responses lads. If Nintendo can transfer saves it may be worth my time shipping it to them. I'm not far into either game but obviously it'd be better starting where I've left off rather than from the very beginning.
Well that's good to hear. I wish Nintendo didn't have such an archaic system. Give us cloud saves or allow us to move saves to a micro sd.
By LFMartins86 Go To PostIt depends, some people have reported that their saves were intact. That’s a user option. Nintendo themselves always had the tools to do the transfer, even if the system is not working (providing, again, that the memory is still intact).

By Nelo Ice Go To PostWell that's good to hear. I wish Nintendo didn't have such an archaic system. Give us cloud saves or allow us to move saves to a micro sd.Agreed. Fingers crossed that they will at least make that feature part of the NSO service.
Sometimes it's easy to forget consumer protection laws. I completely forgot that if there's a fault with the product I can go directly to the retailer for a refund/replacement/repair. Won't need to go near Nintendo. Hopefully it'll be too much hassle for them to deal with shipping for a repair and they'll just offer a replacement.
I don’t know why I did it, but I bought Skyrim for the forth time now on the Switch.
I don’t even like Skyrim that much.
Why do I own this game on four different platforms?
I’ve never even completed the main quest line because there’s a flash back scene with Colonel Roy Campbell from MGS voicing one of the characters and it really distracted me.
I spent 2 hours playing it, 1 hour was spent thinking of a name.
After discovering I started the game with a fire spell and using it to burn some Bandits, I instantly wanted to restart the game there and then as a mage race because I’ll feel uncomfortable playing a spell casting Nord.
At least it’s a pretty good port.

By DY_nasty Go To Postpeople actually want to play souls on these controls?Sure why not?
I don’t want a portable Dark Souls, nor do I think portability would add anything to the game.
The controls would be fine though. It’s not like Dark Souls uses analogue triggers or needs a dpad. Could even add some gyro aim for the bow’s which would be a slight improvement.
The online though, that’d be my only concern.
finally got my hands on one of these over the holiday. Zelda is freaking gorgeous. whew.
the Mario Kart feels really shit though. it cant hold Double Dash's jock. Nintendo needs to get on a DD sequel.
i'd kill to be able to use the PS4 or Xbox controller on this thing though. the controls on this are absolute garbage. even w/ that thing where you slide it into to the controller facsimile. there's always a quirk w/ nintendo shit that turns me off.

yes cleff lad, you have the right to return the switch to retailer you brought it from for either a replacement or an attempted repair. Not sure about the cut off for a full refund, afaik within 30 days of sale or if no replacement or an attempted repair fails.
Buy your shit from Asda or Tesco. They take stuff back and are good about it. Had to return a fucked ps3 to asda, who replaced it with a new unit after explaining the disc drive failed. Tesco did the same for a RROD 360. Never buy hardware from shithouse merchants like GAME, HMV, Curries/PC world etc. They'll make every attempt to fuck you off if something goes wrong, after they try to sell you hardware insurance.
I haven't updated the Friend Code list in OP in a while. Everyone post your friend codes if you're not there when you can! :)
I wish people would also say what their switch names are since it sometimes doesn't match their name here.

If you’re playing with the default controls at home you’re still playing with controls of 3DS/Vita-class, best in class as they may be. Also buy a pro controller if you don't like playing with split cons (the grip does suck), it shit's on the ds4, I think I've charged it like 3 times since I got it at launch. I've charged my ds4 more times than that this week...
Yeah speaking of battery life I have to charge my pro controller once a week at most and that's only if I played heavily during that week. My DS4 I charge daily since the battery life is horrendous.

If I play all day, I’ve gotta charge my PS4 pad at least twice. Gave up in the end and just kept it plugged in. Shit’s ridiculous.
Haven’t used the Switch Pro controller but I’m pretty happy with the joycons aside from the lack of dpad for 2D games.
Though I’m a fan of the Steam controller and WiiU gamepad, so my opinion could be just trash.

The Wii U pro controller had an 80+ hour battery life. I've probably only charged mine a couple of times in all the years I've had it. Meanwhile I have to rotate between two dual shock 4s in any given play session because one can never make it all the way through.

This is not ripping on the Joy-cons, but they just lack the sufficient physical size to have these 3 things that I'm spoiled to expect on a home controller:
-Proper comfy hand grips that you can grab
-Larger buttons
-Unaligned buttons with the directional inputs (eg, left analog with the "dpad" or right analog with face buttons) that allow to you pivot you thumbs comfortably between one and the other
Again, it's not a bad thing if you still enjoy them. It's quite normal actually. Loads of people have no problems playing for hours on end on the 3DS or Vita, at home or not (and mostly they play at home). The joy-cons are not worse. But if you can't enjoy them because your expectations come from an Xbox controller, DS4 or Wii U Pro Controller, there are very real reasons for it, which are only solved by the Switch Pro controller.

Now that you mention it, there’s one thing that does irritate me. With split joycons, switching between controlling the camera and using the face buttons requires me to reposition how I hold the right joycon each time.
Not an issue when connected to the Switch or to the joycon grip, could probably get a third party grip attachment to improve it too, but still. Really fucking irritating.
I'm shocked you guys really still defend these controls
Even outside of the d pad, the buttons are too far apart, the triggers are too narrow and too close together, but what makes it awful is the sticks. These sticks are inexcusable. Unless you're one of those people who's never had to consider sensitivity in any form, I don't know how you use them for anything precise.

'It doesn't matter that something is atrocious in its field, the rest of the field isn't as good as using a mouse'
Switch sticks are inexcusably shit

By HottestVapes Go To PostFam, precision and analogue stick don’t belong in the same sentence.not everything needs to be keyboard and mouse. the thing with these being so shallow is that there's barely any gray area at all on them.
The sticks issue is one I don’t have but it also comes from the joy-cons being portable controllers. They are far better than any analog controls I’ve ever tried on a portable console, obviously including the Vita, but they are still limited by the how shallow the controller shell and the stick itself need to be.
By DY_nasty Go To Postnot everything needs to be keyboard and mouse. the thing with these being so shallow is that there's barely any gray area at all on them.
I’m not saying they’re good, because they’re really not. A step up from the Vita, but a step behind everything else. That’s why I wouldn’t play any type of shooter on the Switch.
Outside of games with heavy aim assist/sticky aim like Call of Duty and Battlefield though, I’ve never played an FPS with a controller that felt precise.
I’m playing Skyrim on the Switch right now, and I know exactly what you mean about the grey area to moving the stick. It’s like 1mm off centre for slowest movement and any more that that is max speed. It’s bad, I get that. I’m not saying you should all be using a mouse either, but if you’re all for nitpicking over precision of analogue sticks then you probably, maybe, definitely should just use a mouse instead and enjoy the QoL improvement.

my thing is that movement and input are straight up unreliable in anything action heavy that doesn't hold your hand in some way. i can deal with aiming being a little off here and there, but you couldn't even play helldivers on this without running into issues.

No trip, I just like the discussion, y’know?
I can’t speak for Helldivers because I’ve never played it, but I’ll take your word on it.
Mainly, I just play chilled out games on the Switch or split screen multiplayer. Haven’t been hindered by the sticks in any game yet, but the games I’ve played haven’t been very demanding on the sticks or if they have, it’s been something like using the bow in BotW where I’d just use the stick to get close enough then use gyro to aim properly. Kinda like how I use the Steam controller in games like Fallout 4.
By s y Go To PostI can understand masud liking gyro aiming because the sticks on the switch are so bad.Well no but that might explain why the split joy cons don't bother me as much. I guess I can see how aiming with the joy con sticks could be more shit than the normal amount of shit you get with bigger controllers but I wouldn't really know cause I don't aim reticles with my thumb like a loser.
Seriously though just buy a pro controller, the joy cons are not ideal for typical console gaming. Y'all keep asking how we put up with the included controls and we keep telling you were not.

The Switch has taken over any gaming time I have at the moment. I have a huge backlog on both PS4 and Xbox but here I'm grinding quests on Xenoblade. Also I'm addicted to buying physical games on Switch. Nicalis has been killing it with the smaller scale releases. Love all the added stuff they add to their physical releases.
Somehow I’m the opposite. My PS4 has been taking up all my gaming time recently. I make some progress in Horizon or I end up playing multiplayer games on my PS4. It’s probably cuz its still new along with my 4K tv lol. I’m enjoying seeing the raw power on display. With that said before I continue Horizon I really need to beat botw first. That game always sidetracks me and I end up ignoring the main quest every single time.

i miss the swapping big time. also i like my Mario Kart as just that. Kart racing. the flying and underwater parts dont do it for me at all.
then this is just a weird personal preference but i actually like the looser handling of DD compared to this one. i still had a blast playing it but i just prefer DD.
i'll probably get a switch of my own whenever they put out the Pokemon game. i enjoyed the system overall.
