there's a lot of fucked up stuff in the game, the "doves", the pig organ farm, the merged woman and child, all the weirdo tenants. really cool game when you're exploring and talking to the tenants, reminds me of deus ex without the combat. I want more games like this.

I weirdly got back into Dragon Age Inquisition. The combat is still repetitive AF, but the world gets built up enough and I got enough characters who didn't annoy me that I started to dig it. Sitting on your throne passing judgement on defeated bosses is pretty cool.

Picked up the new metroid game yesterday. Bought it digital because I was too hung over to go to the shops and wanted to get stuck in immediately. It came with a "theme" which now means my 3DS plays metroid music and sounds when I am in the home menus. It is the bollocks.

lack of thick API layers is just one aspect of "coding to the metal" as I understood it.
the fact you have a closed box and dont have to think of the lowest dominator so allows you to push the boundaries you have right to the limit.

It depends on how complex the architecture you're dealing with is, but yeah, in the console world the lowest levels are all locked down anyway so Smokey's kind of right. It's a thing, but the people bragging about it aren't really doing it. Maybe some first party devs like Naughty Dog or EAD are given super low level access to give flagship products an advantage, but for the most part it's probably people saying they're not just using Unreal Engine out of the box or something.

First party studios have an advantage of a closed box system, multi-platform titles do not and it's actually a hindrance if anything, especially if a system is as difficult to write code for as the PS3 was and to a lesser degree the Xbox One with its not-so-great memory architecture.
If the mechanics weren't more free flowing than every other versus game on the market, Infinite would have been the first versus game I passed on, due to how trash the base roster is. Might as well call it Capcom vs MCU. It just lacks any and all imagination. Even if my favorites didn't / don't get in the game -Magnus- a couple more surprises would have been better than this.
I don't understand how they fucked over the diversity so much, when the comics have been getting some praise for going hard in that aspect. Even Capcom does better with the Resident Evil games. Meh.
